Square Dance patter tip with all dance programs

Музыка

Called by Vic Ceder at the Fall Berkshires C4 Weekend in Lenox, MA on Oct. 22, 2011. A group of volunteer dancers returned from their lunch early to dance a special tip in which each sequence was from a different dance program. The 10 sequences are: Mainstream, Plus, A1, A2, C1, C2, C3A, C3B, C4 (easy), C4 (hard), but were called in a random order.
This footage was gathered as part of an effort (www.SquareDanceHistory.org) to document and illustrate different types of modern square dancing, as well as different regional styles of traditional squares.
In Modern Western Square Dancing the dancers learn a vocabulary (69 calls for Mainstream, over 1000 for C4) but do not memorize a dance pattern. Instead the caller puts the calls together in an ever changing order and the dancers respond in real time. While the dancers were familiar with the vocabulary, they had never heard the particular sequences of calls before, and did not know what was going to be called. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_d... for more info.
Dancers familiar with MWSD may enjoy watching with the sound turned off and trying to match each sequence to its corresponding dance program by watching the patterns.
Here is where each sequence starts in the video:

01:10
01:56
02:40
03:13
04:16

What I see is a set of 8 very competent dancers, they are all at ease, and are obviously enjoying themselves. Dancing all levels in random order probably required a lot of concentration, they seem 'happy' and are having fun, imo. I love this video. The caller does keep them busy, there's not a lot of space for thinking.

Aww I love my dresses! It's so fun to twirl in them. I swore up and down when I started dancing that I would never wear those "funny dresses", but now I absolutely LOVE them. :)

jayhawker53, what's your point? That challenge dancers are stone-faced and aren't having any fun? That's totally ridiculous. I've been in Mainstream tips where people don't smile, and have been in Challenge tips when the entire floor is cracking up the whole tip. Whether one dances Basic or C4, they wouldn't be doing it if they weren't having fun.
