Square Baling First Crop Hay/820 John Deere and New Idea Square Baler
Between the rain showers, a perfect window opened up to get some dry hay baled. Even better is that the hay was nice and tender and worthy of square baling. Justin started raking the hay while Alan got the New Idea 551 Square Baler and hay baskets ready to go. There was more hay up there than Alan figured and it didn't take long to fill up both of the hay baskets. Then Paul and Justin got to stack hay on a couple of flat racks. That evening, everyone came over to help get the hay up in the barn. 403 bales in total.

Now some folks will understand what is meant by "The Family Farm" - Over 400 square bales in one day and it was the effort of the whole family that got it done. The family that works together, stays together. You and your family are truly blessed. Justine has come a long way. Keep up the good work Justin - you will reap the benefits as you get older. You'll see!!

1400 for us and 5 guy operation is a good day for us.
When things are going so smoothly, you got to know God has His hand in it.
Loved Justin and his Red Green suspenders! "Keep your stick on the ice!"
Awesome you got yourself a awesome assistant there Justin is doing really awesome, God Bless
A day that hay was dry and now in the barn. Is always a good day. Have a good one
Paul is a big dude, but on that flat rack he looks like a giant. Bales are like little paperweights in his hands. Justin did a fine job pulling them in. Young Josh made me smile, being the youngest of 3 boys I spent a lot of time sitting in that same spot on the corner of the wagon. Until there was a good amount then I'd get to crawl on top and hold on for dear life
Good to see you guys getting the haying done. Always a good feeling when there is hay in the barn
Happy Father's Day!!!
Paul is a blessing
Those little 820 just sips fuel. We always joked that we could fill it up in the spring and run it all summer long

Yeah, we always joked, you could fill it up, cut hay all day ,and have to siphon some off at the end of the day!
I sure miss those days.
Many hands make lighter work handling small squares during hay season. Gives you an appreciation for round bales where one or two people can handle a considerable quantity of hay. Worked in your favor that Jen and the others were able to keep chores moving during hay baling. The Lord has blessed you folks with a wonderful family.
Great video.Nothing like the fresh smell of hay
Justin is becoming quite the operator, and Alan’s right hand man. Good for him!!
Great video! God bless you and your family ✝️🙏
That is what you call a family dairy farm. Everyone has a role, and it looks like perfection. Justin was taught well. Jen Alan and Paul you should all be proud!! Love watching the kids work.
Nice to see the little JD out in the fresh air. Now your farming like ya mean it! 💪 Go green! 👍
I love your channel your hole family comes and helps and you take the time to Teacher kids I just wish we had more family farms like there used to be and more and more of them are going out of it keep them videos coming 👍👍🇺🇸
Always nice to have help when baling hay. Jordan is quite the cameraman.
Justin has become a great helper in the last few years. Over 400 bales is pretty good for that field. I miss the smell of fresh baked hay in the barn.
When I was your boys age, I always had the bale hook and pulled the bale on to the wagon. My older brother, had the misfortune of always getting put in the hot, dusty hay loft. Which, of course, was fine by me. LOL ( I should add, it was my older cousins who stacked the bales on the wagon. )
Looks like Paul hasn’t forgotten how to stack on a flat wagon.
That little deere has done darn near every job on that farm
God Bless and thank you for family. I wish i could smell it. Boe 😊
Up in the hay mow...bring back memories.....😂
It's always a blessing when the weather will finally cooperate to put up some beautiful square bales. You have some great helpers. Nice job. God Bless
Loved the sound of the tractor and baler, very soothing and comforting. Justin seems to have developed good precision of eye for working in the field. And a good way to develop muscles. Congratulations to mom for working with the new mom and calf. I am learning patience because I had to send my newer computer in for repair and am now on the old one whose space key works intermittently and sometimes garbles the videos. But enjoyed watching and listening today. Thanks and thank God for his blessings.
I see what you did there. Good title. I stacked a lot of small squares back in the day.
Flat wagon loading, I have many memory hours of baling hay like that back on the farm, same stacking pattern you have then one rope over the top to cinch it all down and pull home. Basket wagons look like a great idea, better than kickers mangling bale shapes. We put hay in the barn stacked on edge which kept their shape better and a better floor to walk on since we didn't have that clever in-barn elevator, all walking from where the outside elevator put them. Fuel efficient older equipment is a huge plus. Our small utility fuel sipper was a '55 Ferguson TO35, and it was the hardest working tractor on the farm.
Hello enjoyed your video sir. I enjoy making small squares. When done in the barn allways looks great. Have a good day.
Hi Trinity Dairy
I'm originally from Gary, South Dakota and Grandparents had a dairy farm there and spent every summer baling hay and milking cows. Miss it badly
Watching you and your dad in the hay mow, reminded me of my dad and I in the hay mow when I was farming. Ty for making your videos. Glad you have lots of family helping you out.
my grandpa's old 2120 is still going strong, now it has had a few engines over the years, the clutch pedal is almost wore off of it, has crazy hours on it.
A good family is the BEST!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Justin is getting so tall .
Allan, you have to be the only farmer with a New Idea square baler!! Yes if you have the time and labour. I think some of the best quality bales can be made in small squares. Cuts and packs. Love the sound!! Every stroke bang bang..
Glad you got to Put Up Some Good Square Bales Alan And Justin Is Coming Along Nicely With Field Work Learning about The Different Machinery You Have To Run And How You have to Watch What It's Doing and It's Operating correctly Thanks For The Video Hopefully You Can Add Dome Nice 2nd Cutting Squares On Top Fill The Barn LoL Blessings And Please Be Safe ✌️
It must feel great to have evryones help, GOD BLESS

Yes it does!
We did 385 in our little farm community. Everyone helped and then pizza. It was a good deal.
Love the family involvement. My first tractor job on the farm was raking hay!
Yes looks like beautiful hay. I got some silage made but small windows to make it between rains.
Nice to have such a big brother 😊
It shows you don’t need 100 plus horse tractors with air conditioning to bale hay I love your small family farm
The boys will be putting you out to pasture 😮
Justin, when I was your age, my job was to hook the bales off and run them back and stack them and get back for the next bale! it's 5 high and a tie!! And my Dad was nice, he made them small so I could handle them! good job you guys!!
Family and farm god bless thanks for sharing
A good job on the hay hook! I actually made my own hook in Ag Class (1980's) and I still have it, but only occasionally use it now. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Great teamwork! And happy Father's day guys!
I think showing Justin, raking, bailing, hauling the bales back to be stacked and unloading he is turning out to be a good young worker, you should be proud of your young man, now to keep him clear of girls for fifteen years or so.
I would like to visit your farm and work on those small bales, brings back great memories of summers on the farm. Enjoy your family, life passes quickly. God Bless your operation.
One of your best yet, love the square bailer and tractor information.
Great video seeing the whole family helping out. In a few more years the boys are all going to be adding a lot to production of your farm. Exciting prospect. They're going to be fighting over who gets what tractor and which implement. I'm sure you're looking forward to that...not! LOL.
Great farm family video great team work
This video brings lots of memories back to me. I was about your Justins age when my Grandfather put me on a side rake with a small Case tractor I/E only one that I could reach the peddles and and just loved it as any young person would at that age. That was back in the early 50's for me and things were much different.
Great video ❤ Blessings 😊
Glad to see you got some hay in! We got 7 acres done and a couple acres of pasture. Still got 20 acres to do. Hope it continues to go well for you!
Good nice job and God bless y'all every more 🙏
Worked the governor pretty good. Got the job done. Brother, cousin and his two sons got over 1100 bales in two days while I was on vacation. Small window of opportunity in west Wisconsin and here.
Great video. Awesome job everyone, thanks for sharing. Stay well be safe. God bless you and your family.
Allen we have dad's last row crop tractor. It 's a 1972 1530 John Deere. It's a 3 cylinder German built diesel 39 horse power. It used 1.5 gallons of fuel per hour.( planter, cultivator , and grain drill) Your 820 looks like it's.twin!!!

It pretty much is, this has the 3 cylinder German diesel too.
Great video
The good old days square baling hay. Not a lot of farmers do that anymore. Good work out for sure. I helped my neighbors out when I was 14-17 years old they had the old rail in the hay mow they pulled the bales up with a c farmall long rope man did we put up a lot of hay. God bless
That's the frist time I ever saw a new ideal baler here in Maryland all u see is new holland
Love the videos
another great video
good job on the wagon
Awesome video as always, them little tractors are nice to have around just to think some European farmers only had one of those JD's to do all there farm work back in the day. The best feeling is when after the hay harvest the rain comes and one can say thank good this year we'll have enough feed and then some. I know of a dual action sickle bar for front attachment made by a swiss company that has a conditioner as an option for em, I think I sent a pic or two of it to Jen on FB maybe she showed it to ya but I am not sure if they would export them over here I could ask one day about that. Disc mowers do have a few disadvantages one of em is if there are bear cans or pop cans thrown into ditches and they end up in hay fields because they will shred them up and end up in the feed saw a few pics what will happen if cattle get that in side of them. They face that problem in the old country.
Nice job Justin, great young guy, right out there with the "big" guys. God bless ☺️👍
I know it's hard to film for KZread and be a farmer but I wished you could have more videos sure do love watching your videos it's getting to point where there's not much you can even watch on KZread anymore

We will have a video going live at 4 today. The kids have had a lot of 4-H stuff going on that has kept Jen pretty busy, but she's catching up on editing today. Thanks for watching!
Good hard team work👍
Great job Justin thats awesome bring back alot great memories from my past n present of making hay
Another very interesting video Thank you ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Every one involved
Brings me back to 1960s
Great video!!
Nice Hay! Awesome! Thank you. (Digger)
It's baling season full swing now. Looks like you're getting some rain now though. You doing it just like how we do it except I liked loading wagons myself. But that's me 😊.
Is there any chance you have in the barn a track and carriage to bring up 8 square bales at a time? It would be fun to see the horses pulling it up into the barn. Just a thought! Always love your videos, farm and family!!!
@trinitydairy
17 күн бұрын
We have the track and carriage, but we don't have the square bale grabber. My parents used to do that at a farm they owned.
My guess is that 820 is 35 horse power tractor. Seems to handle the baler and basket/ trailer ok.
@trinitydairy

Yeah it's right around there
Considering the rocks you've pointed out in your field work videos, I'd stick with sickle bar mower conditioner.
Great video nice to see the whole family working together! What did the heifer have a boy or girl?
@trinitydairy
17 күн бұрын
An Angus cross heifer calf.
Loved seeing Justin on the tractor. Plus dad let him bale some too. At a boy.
love to see the youngster on the tractor going to make a good farmer in the future i bet, we did it that way with a flat wagon good commentater anymore milkers?
nothing like Family banning together
Nice. I'm glad you found enough of a weather window to dry some. We have been getting these mini showers every day. I think today was the first completely dry day in a week.
@trinitydairy

Yeah, it's been crazy weather!
I am tired just watching you'all
Yes I thought that Baler had a very narrow pick up! How many horsepower is that little John Deere? That's pretty amazing it can do all that work for you.
@trinitydairy
16 күн бұрын
It's about 35hp
Justin is a good operator, looking back every 5 or so seconds to check out the operation. Is the first hay stacked in the barn the last to feed?
@trinitydairy

Yes, that is fed last.
You folks can make hay but my brother still is troubled trying to get his off between the rain

@trinitydairy

Yeah they are
I loved/ hated square bailing. Being on the wagon was great with the smell and doing the stacking. However you have to get in the haybarn where it is 150 degrees, really sucks
Do you have issues finding parts for the baler?
@trinitydairy
17 күн бұрын
Not really, so far, but haven't needed much, I needed rollers for the cam in the pickup, and they were the same as New Holland.
WOW!! I have a Case IH 5420 square baler and it is identical!!!! Can you still get any parts for yours? I'm wanting to replace the plunger rollers.
@trinitydairy

So far the parts I've needed, were the same as New Holland.
❤ 🚜
Alan, I'm curious about if you do any dry round bales. And those hay baskets, are they common in your area? I have never seen those before except on your channel. We didn't have any near our farm or in our county.
@trinitydairy

If we get the right weather we'll dry bale the hay. There is a few hay baskets around here, but a lot of people have the thrower racks.
@Stephenklausmeyer-hr9rb

Around here we have flat racks with either a bale thrower or bale kicker. Sorry, I posted the comment before the video was over so you had answered my question about the dry round bales.
Did you ever think about wearing ear plugs? Sometimes I think if I had worn them I wouldn’t be half deaf no. Sometimes farm machinery can be loud.🇺🇸🚒🐄
@trinitydairy
11 күн бұрын
I wear them sometimes, I should probably wear them more.
What is the horsepower of the little Deere ? It looks pretty small pulling the baler and carts !! 😊
@trinitydairy

About 32 hp.
Mi pregunta es, por una rampa tan larga para que se preste mucho el paquete...
Are you guys going to the summer auction
@trinitydairy

Yep
How do you get the hay to keep stacking like that we always stack cut side up
@trinitydairy

It has to be completely dry.
