My Tenacious was very nice out of the box, smooth g10 (no sharp parts), nicely centered blade, a little stiff opening (being new), overall a wonderful knife for the price. Anyone considering getting a first Spyderco can't go wrong with the Tenacious.

I must concur on the Tenacious. Is it the best steel? No but not the worst and it it's very well made and worth every penny. Zero blade play. I just got a stainless VG-10 Endura today...very nice but it does have just a teet of blade play...just a teet.

Great comparison.. I opted for the tenacious simply because I know if I got a $150 ($200 in Canada) pm2, Id baby it and not use it lol. Just the way I am. Now with the tenacious I don't mind using it for some tougher jobs and putting it to hard work.

Well that’s where you’re wrong. You’d be better off using a PM2 and using it. The steel will retain the edge longer, it’s a better built knife, you don’t have to deal with the liner lock and you get the best ergonomics of any knife I have ever felt. They’re amazing knives and you’d have been better off to spend the $150.

@@cavalry1213 Don't get me wrong, the PM2 is the better knife for sure. However for $200 where I live I cannot justify the price especially for a knife I want to hard use. Tenacious does that just fine and I won't feel bad if i break the knife ($40 vs $250).

I'll take a $50 spiderco with a longer edge that is easier to sharpen in the field over a $150 spiderco with a shorter edge that is harder to sharpen. I have both, I love both. I will say, though...... I have a tenacious on pretty much every bag I have, one in the truck, one in the car and one in my pocket. The para, however, I have only one of. Are you still allowed to order the locking blade knives, and just leave them at home? That's how it is with some knives here too, like automatic opening knives or butterfly knives. I've read that the reason butterfly knives are illegal is they are worried about people accidentally cutting themselves. You're not supposed to carry them around unless you're law enforcement, but you can have it in your own house here.

Certain cultures call for action, they accuse proper knife carriers of violence... Listen people, sort your getto culture out before going after professionals. I bet zero people get stabbed in UK using proper credit-card licensed premium blades. Same goes for shootings, though it is a muddier area for A. an accident often is lethal B. a legal gun can be stolen and used on the streets, where liberals will aways protect the minority and in fact the legal owner might end up in court for having bad storage.

You let your bias distort your review so much it's ridiculous. How is the PM2 "overbuilt" but the Tenacious is not? You don't even try to explain how it's overbuilt. The PM2 is not anymore "overbuilt" than the Tenacious. Not a chance. You're just trying desperately to justify the high price by saying that. Also, your bias shows through when you say the PM2 will be sharper out of the box. LMAO. There are variations in sharpness with both models out of the box. The price difference is because of the steel, the patented compression lock, and it being made in the USA instead of China. That is all.

Good review but saying it's not as good because it was made in China is incorrect. The knife was designed to be a budget/entry level knife so it has cheaper steel and made in China for lower labor cost. China can make the same high quality Para 2 with same steel, etc for less because of labor costs. For the same reasons, a US made Tenacious with the same materials would be above the $50 price point because of various labor and taxes.

Bought both these knives. At the end of the day, these both lose their edge at the same rate. It’s been demonstrated over and over again on KZread. You can destroy the tenacious and you’ll only have to spend $50 for a new knife. My para costs $150, I mean, I’m a gun guy. Rather use the money on gun accessories. I don’t wanna destroy my $150 knife. So I’m hesitant to even you it. If you’re a knife enthusiast, Para is the way to go. It’s made in the USA, better Steel, better ergonomics. But if you’re a normal guy, Tenacious hands down. Blade is just as sharp, hold the edge the same, and it cost $50. And it’s ergonomics are excellent, but just a tad bit less that the other.

This is a really good comment. I have the Tenacious and I love it. I'm debating on the PM2 because I like the steel but if what you're saying is true then it's not really worth it. I agree with the logic behind the having a $50 versus a $150 knife. I tend to lose my knives and I'm picky about scratches and such. I think I'll stick to the Tenacious. It's cheaper to replace when necessary. Stay sharp bro!

I thought the Tenacious would be a really good beater knife. I purchased one with the FRN handles so I wouldn't baby it. It feels very cheap and plastic but it's lightweight with no play at all. It definitely covers the bases as a beater. It had so many pluses compared to negatives that I immediately ordered a Para 3.

    1. Does the steel really matter that much for $100 price difference? Will it do $100 better? 2. The difference between the weight doesn't even reach 1 ounce. So what? Does it even matter? How does the weight even matter? 3. Do you need to change the pocket clip that much? 4. The sharpness, you can sharpen it by yourself. 5. Okay, the closing mechanism is a good point. 6. It's your nails, cut them. nah, sorry being an asshole. i think I spent too much watching edc-ers comparing knives and buying knives for the sake of brand or name rather than what they're really using it for.

It isn’t a matter of sharpening it yourself. It’s a matter of it staying sharper longer. 8CR13 is a softer steel so you will be forced to sharpen it more. S30V is harder and therefore harder to sharpen but will retain an edge longer. You’re being a dickhead for no reason without seemingly any idea as to what you’re fucking talking about.

I can't argue with any of that, but I don't really feel that way about Spyderco. I carried a Japan made Delica 4 for almost 10 years, still do on occasion. I have knives from all their factories, except Italy, and I feel the quality of craftsmanship is up to par, but the materials used usually aren't. I have two of the Tenacious models, one in the Chinesium, and one in CPM M4. The M4 version was almost 3 times the price, but you can definitely feel the difference. They feel like two different knives. For a sub $100 knife, I think the Tenacious is a great option, and at around 130 buck or so, you can get one with some decent steel.

These are good knives no doubt about it, but with that said I'm afraid I can't buy either. Nope, I just can't justify the cost of either knife. The Ganzo G710 is a much better value and I know that it's made in China but so is the Tenacious as well as many other knives produced by various other manufactures that are based in the USA. I really wish that American manufactures could compete better with off shore manufactures, but IMO, we only have our great and wonderful politicians and over-greedy American corporations to thank for the situation we are currently in. They have been selling out the American people and American manufactures for years and I don't know how that will ever change but I believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we are progressing towards it fast. If you really want to see American manufactures do better, then my advice to you is to pay close attention to American economic policy and really consider who you vote for in all of the upcoming election cycles. You may also want to consider which American manufactures that you do support because politically, they are not all created equal, recent events in the news concerning Benchmade comes to mind. You may disagree with me and think "what the eff does this have to do with this video?" and my response would be that it has everything to do with this video, American economic policy is the driving force behind everything that is manufactured in the USA, and production cost is a big part of the equation.
