Spyderco fixed the thin micarta flex issue too. It’s full thickness on the Military 2 except for where the lock tab sits. Way better than how the PM2 was done.

It really is an excellent knife! I think the improved finger choil adds another layer of comfort for this version.

I noticed the Finger Choil on the M2 is bigger like a PM2

Yes indeed, it's much more ergonomic as a finger choil. I'll have a KZread short dropped later today capturing some of the changes.

You're the first person to articulate the importance of tip down carry since I started researching this knife. Is the entire community of EDCers sold on this bad idea of tip up? I was doing quick draw competitions in Iraq many years ago and established the tip down supremacy. (we got bored) I raced against assisted opening knives while I had a CRKT M-16 flipper in back in '07

Appreciate the feedback! 🙏👊. IMO, how a knife is designed for its purposes is extremely important. I think Spyderco nailed the original Military design with the tip down aspect. As for tip up applications, I wonder if the original idea was to have the blade nested between the handle and the edge of your pocket for added "security" in case the blade opens in the pocket. Man, the M-16 flipper is a classic! Do you still own/carry that knife?

I find tip up does it faster. Not sure about the military 2 but at least on any other spyderco I had with compression lock. I got big hands and maybe thats an advantage?

@@rj_ofb I can see that if you’re able to have the entire knife in hand by the time you extract it.

@@TriedandTrueEDC I pull it up and its ready to be deployed in the direction I want to, for example defense towards me. If I have tip down I need to change position first and then deploy. 🤔

@@rj_ofb i can see that if your thumb is already near the opening hole by the time it’s extracted from your hand, then it would be faster than tip down. I’m interested in testing it out now 😂

The finger “guard” on my PM2 hits my finger every time I close it and it bothers me because the blade sometimes doesn’t close for the first try. But my Para 3 works just fine in this aspect because its guard is a lot more subtle and it doesn’t reach my finger that is on the compression lock. How is this issue with the Military2?

  • @TriedandTrueEDC

I know exactly what you mean, the Shaman has that issue as well. To be completely honest, I did not notice that with the Military 2 because it was drop shut enough for it to close in one fell swoop. And unfortunately, after my review I noticed there was a gash in the micarta so I ended up returning it. If I get another one, I’ll certainly check for that and follow up with another review calling that out. Appreciate you dropping a comment 🙏🏼 👊🏼
