Spur Gear Drive vs Pro Belt drive - Which did I choose? - Billy Wiz

Hi there! New to the Billy Wiz Channel? If so, here's what you need to know -- I like Electric Skateboards a LOT, so I made this channel so I can share those experiences with you. Sometimes I will be riding, sometimes I will be doing reviews and sometimes I am doing other random things!

*Disclaimer* This video was created from my limited knowledge. I am sorry to the people out there telling me I am wrong in certain cases and I am simply just explaining my experiences with both and which I prefer and use now. Enjoy the video and hopefully over my time in ESK8 I learn even more!

Thank you 😁 I am currently switching from open belt drive. Ideatb mounts. 13-76 gearing with 9x3.5" tires and 190kv sk3s. Just got the SGD to use with these items. Found your info very handy 😁 my board was way too fast for me and I had already geared it down as much as possible with my items. This SGD should be just about perfect for me. I was going through belts like crazy also. Started off being a tad too tight with rain and then I've had snow, leaves, even a wig that came out of a leaf pile all snapped belts 😉🤯 too much breakage for conditions I ride in 😉 ANY 🤣 thanks again and have a good one

My DIY 12s emtb is a IDEATB mount system 15/72 gearing 169kv motors, 20mm belts with idlers, on 8" wheels, i get just over 32 mph, i was going to go for spur gears but i like the one advantage you missed out about belts, easy to fix myself even while while out and about.

that is very true, although there is much less maintenance on the SGD, belts are super easy to fix whether you are home or out on a ride, SGD whereas, could be much harder. Thanks for watching :)

Nice one mate that's really helped my decision to go Spur! I'm 2 months off having the cash to buy a Trampa and been tossing up this decision for ages! I've mountainboarded for years, but now live in London so was undecided on OBD or Spur - ultimately will use it on street but to get to trails and off road so don't want to limit myself when hit dirt! 👍

Does the extra weight of the spur drive make it harder to do jumps or 180s off ramps compared to weight of the belt drives ?

so how goes it with the spur drive? any regrets? im thinking of getting one vs the open belt drive. Im trying to decide between the two, I hear the maintenance for the spur wheel drive can get a bit hectic if something goes wrong. wanted to know your experience. Thanks!

i been serious mountain boarding for a while with the helica spur 9:63. more torque than you can handle to the point can pop a wheelie on the spot like a drag car! i only get 26mph but i stay in the mountains so uphill is still instant off the line so much i had to lower the amps as i would not eat up tires from burnouts... once your gears are set then there is nothing to do to them for months! its rare something will go wrong if setup correctly and greased. also bash guards offroad means no damage to the gears. they will make the board heavy if you like jumping more then 2 feet off the ground
