Thank you making for this video Rob, now that it's pretty clear that international students won't be able to make it this fall, I'm trying to decide which term should I defer my admit to, this was certainly helpful. I see a couple of major disadvantages of starting in spring, would really love to get your perspective on them. First, I speak for my industry (civil) - hiring is significantly higher in May as compared to Jan the data is right there on LinkedIn to corroborate this. This is only exacerbated by the fact there'd be a lot more students starting in spring this time around. And second, from what I've gathered April is the deadline for H1B draw. So, assuming we're graduating in Dec starting our work by Jan/Feb there might not be enough time for us to prove that we're worth the H1B hassle. If we could come to an agreement with our employer about the sponsership beforehand then that's great, if not it could potentially cost us our 1st attempt.

Thank you for sharing aditya, one of my friends got an admit for CS in spring, and he was aware that he could potentially lose out on a H1B draw, so he opted for extra courses and instead of the usual 4 semesters, he made it 5 semesters and graduated in fall... Hence having no disadvantage whatsoever and equal chance at the H1B. (Other than paying for additional courses) For this, its better to get in touch with the university and program advisor to know whether such schemes you can avail..lot of flexibility is there in US universities, just need to ask and be prepared beforehand.

Great information as always 🤠👍🏻 Good to know about the opportunity to do an internship with a reduced course load for 364 days. I didn’t know that 👍🏻 Being MS Business Analytics Spring’20 Student I have a bad experience starting in the spring semester at UTD. I, along with other spring’20 admits, didn’t get the scholarship that would’ve allowed me to pay in-state tuition because University didn’t have funds. They gave away too many scholarships in Fall’19. UTD was very ‘kind’ enough to tell me the reason behind no scholarship when asked over email after my Visa was done in mid December. Basically they made sure the admitted students don’t get a chance to choose different college without wasting a whole spring semester. Imagine getting no scholarship with above average work experience and 700 GMAT score at an university like UTD. Spring grads can’t apply for scholarships available for current students unless they finish 4 subjects in their first semester. You’ll have to wait until your last semester next fall. So basically don’t keep any hopes of getting in-state tuition scholarship especially if you plan to come to JSOM, UTD in spring.
