We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

You all are called the sweethearts of youtube . I get lonely sometimes and your videos are like getting a visit from family ❤
I've always understood you do not pile mulch up against the trunk of a tree. It can kill them. Mulch around the drip line but not up against the tree.

Hi.... Evan and Rebecca thanks you for showing your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
Do not pile mulch up against the trunk of a tree. It can rot them. Mulch around the drip line but not up against the tree trunk.

Crazy to look back at what that pasture used to be when you first started.

Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us. I look forward to viewing your videos every time i get the notification. Keep up the good work.
I would love to learn a little about mushroom hunting. Please include the hunt and especially your success. Thanks! Enjoy your channel. ❤😊😊😊
Evan enjoyed your video. I can tell that the animals like you and Rebecca and petting them. Have a great rest of your Sunday.
Experiment with adding some landscape fabric to the front of a couple hen boxes to give them a darker spot to lay eggs. Seems to work when I was raising chickens. Love following your farm and family!
Be careful woodchip can take nitrogen from the soil to help it breakdown.
Ellie's got much tamer 😊
Thanks for another great one 🤠
Happy hunting 😁
That was satisfyingly to watch 😊
Hi You too are a awesome couple
Enjoy your spring.
Great job love your videos thank you
Love the videos Evan , Reb .
To cute!!😊
Love Larry!! 😂
Having fun with the tree puller aren't you😊 i need one of those
Cool good luck!!😊
Looking great around there. Glad the shrub puller worked on the walnut tree , came out really good. Spring is here and glad it's there too. Get those mushrooms and show us the messes you find. Good luck, stay safe and keep up the fun you have around there. Fred.
We're still 4-6 weeks away from apple blossoms here in VT! Still skiing too!
Wow. A cat that lays eggs. Now that would be worth something. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.
Great job Evan and Rebecca, love your farm....if I was closer I would take one of those lambs ( for Easter 😊 ). My favorite mushroom, not time in NE rural Ohio.
Thanks Guys
I took a walk around our property today. I’m not prepared for spring either!
Enjoyed your video Evan Rebecca have a great day.
I really like that dump wagon, using it for the wood chips worked out great. We used pine needles to mulch around our blueberries, works good, if you have pine needles. My wife and I just planted our seeds over the last several days this past week. My wife would agree with Rebekah, she loves to hunt and eat morel mushrooms, I guess I do too. Looking good on the animals and property. I hope you have a wonderful week.
Central IL here and we are still prob 3 weeks out from mushrooms, I cant believe the difference between us and you guys you are really green are grass is just starting to green up!! Hard freeze for tonight 22 as a low. Great video!!!
I have 13 one year old chestnut trees from my trees that is my first time it made chestnuts 🌰. I didn’t do very well with this year’s crop. I was late getting them In stratification. I used wet sand the first year and had somewhat success
I'm jealous of your green pasture. Wish my pasture had green grass. My field looks like I am a professional goat head farmer.
My brother and i have raspberry rows of six by fifty feet we clip them down to three inches usually in November and they come back nicely in rhe spring
another great video
Illinois St Clair county here, across the river from St Louis, my neighbor has already been mushroom hunting. He has found some large ones in the woods by an old railroad track.
thx
Nice one Evan
Enjoy the movie ❤
I use to dock all the tail s on lamb s , for 4 -H . Keeps them cleaner, Love your Farm and the way you work it, thanks. The funny farm when it comes to feeding . Your wife spoils them LOL
yes but the evening sunset is really beautiful in Illinois.People think you have to have mountains or something. Not I ! Looking good guys.
Be careful with how deeply you mulch. It's generally a good idea to leave a small space between the mulch and the trunk as mulch will encourage the tree to shoot out roots above the soil surface. The roots will wrap around the trunk and eventually strangle the tree.
I’m in Monroe County, didn’t realize I should be hunting yet. I thought in the past I hunted when I saw may apples. I guess I’ll look tomorrow.
Rell, nice petting zoo. You got going there
Morels in Jackson County, South of you guys
Hi Evan and Rebecca,Ed from Vermont
makes me want to plant something, but too early here.
I like your videos it show a lot the meaning of good Balance in life ,,, work profits projects sleep time working time caring and love all under control . or at list managed.. i feel so disfuncional sometime .. this is like a settle down time feeling
Feed first and then mulch, but keep it away from trunk.Evan the blackberry needs too be trained on trellis or wire too support them.
March 19, first day of spring. Sorry Evan. You got this.
Hey Evan just think hope you have everything all done before you retire lol
Would you guys do a video on morel mushrooms? I love looking for them, but I'm terrible at finding them. I'm convinced it really is a learned skill. Thanks :)
Someone is advertising morels for sale on Craigslist in Grant Co WI. So they must be popping up around my area? But I'm sure this week is going to set them back again for awhile. Flurries again today.
Good hunting Rebekah. Sadly, I just developed a severe allergy to shiitake mushrooms, my favourite, so I’m wary of others.
I liked seeing the bees. Have you considered keeping a couple of hives?
Hey Evan, GoPro would have paid you good for the shot of their camera getting dizzy in the baler
Has the roster stopped attacking y’all 😂😊

No, he went after me today. Got me in the back of the knee. So, I tried to punt field goal with him, but I missed. He will live another day.
Last frost date for you by Farmers Almanac is tomorrow!
It's here! Already! Haven't seen you guys in quite a while, as life has kept me busy. Looks like you have put up a lot of fencing, got that other barn going, and planted a lot pasture grass. Don't y'all ever go to work? 🙂
Couple of small ones in Greene county.
Hey Evan, watched your video cutting hickory tree from 2 yrs ago. Caution.. never stand behind a tree as it is falling. Behind means opposite to where the tree is falling. Trees can kick back.
Please show us mushroom hunting. I would like to see what the mushrooms look like and if they are like the one’s I pick in Ontario. \
Hey Evan, if you haven't already, it's time to get a good printer, take fall, winter, spring and summer pictures and make post cards for your store front. Including Your animals.
MUSHROOM SEASON IS UPON US! 2 of my employees have went to southern IL and found several. However they have also found a few in clay County and richland County. I own ground in jasper and effingham County and have yet to find any. Hopefully this cold snap doesn't hurt them! I love morel mushrooms!
The walnut trees can be replanted also. We sold ours for $1000.00 for each tree when they got 20 feet tall.
Here is an old saying, and I quote“ At ease disease there is fungus among us”😂
Sping be given on Tuesday the 19th ok evin
Greeting I have been watching your channel for a very long time and I love what you do and the way you do it. I have only one suggestion related to cows, your heifer is thin because she can't eat enough feed from a cow that is stronger than her. Make some kind of box where only the heifer will be able to pass or some kind of feed ban where each of them will get the amount of food intended for her. Greetings from Croatia.
Hi my name is Neil, I'm from Western Australia Your videos are very good and i love watching them What are Morel mushrooms ?
get yourself a big fishing net with expandle handle best thing i found to catch baby lambs
I dunno if I told you this before... I sub to a farm in Pa that operates an egg business. After many decades they have discovered that chicken egg production begins to taper off after the hen reaches 2yo. So, it is their practice once thier flock passes 2yo to take them all to auction & buy a new flock. Every 2years to keep production high. !
Hey Evan, spray some water on the floor as clean the animal pens to keep down the dust. Is the air in your animal barn circulating enough?
Hey Evvan, I just watched your chicken tractor video. You should attach two old skis at bottom front of the chicken tractor. Easier to pull.
Happy St. Patrick day. Evan and Rebecca. Great Farm and homestead show. I learned alot 💯 from you too. ❤😇😎👏🏡🚜🌳🌳🐕🐕🐈🐖🐃🐃
Should have sold that black walnut tree. Since the blight they are hard to find.
Make sure you prune those canes that are growing.
What do you do with all the chestnut trees that you planted (if they all take root and start growing)
You might want to get sterilized soils for the chestnuts adding only what nutrients you want them to have to grow by as that will cut down on the fungus.

And wash your hands after handling the bad seed, before touching the good ones.
Good luck searching for the mushrooms
I hope you are planting those chestnuts where you don’t have to mow or you will be raking them up every time you mow.
I know they found some in oklahoma
