The 1998 version felt like a 1980's unapologetic Hollywood action flick, and I loved it for what it was. The Netflix version feels tonally different from the film, which might throw off some fans of the movie.

I haven't watched the series yet but base on your comment I'm lowering my expectations, the movie for me was really good. I watched it not knowing anything about the series, and the movie alone made me a fan of the IP. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint me, I gave Vinland Saga a watch after being a fan of the manga for years and the staff delivered quality service.

I don't really care because I didn't see the movie and I really liked how much better it look than before it was a huge improvement if you ask me. To bad they only had 6 episodes I really wanted to know what was going to happen because the ending had a cliff hanger

Spriggan and Edgrunners made me want more Ghost in The Shell in a good way and that's all I needed from them.

I was a die-hard fan of the '98 version, so I went into the show with cautious optimism. And I can safely say it not only met my expectations but reignited my appreciation for anime all over again

Modern doesn't actually mean better, there is a difference between remake and reinterpretation, but then again, that was a movie, this is a show, the show should be better for characters, but they should hold the movie visuals in mind, because of the age gap, but budget is everything now, and we have many overworked and underpaid animators, because of the offer/demand death spiral... Anyway, because of the new show, i found and discovered the old movie, and it's an absolute banger.

This show is sick. I've been wanting to see this movie for years. The show doesn't disappoint.

Definitely watching a season 2.

This is a treat for people who like action anime movies

Wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the Netflix adaptation, but now I’m feeling ready for it. Appreciate you, Anime Network!

The movie was great in its own way, I still remember the action scenes vividly cause they were that well animated. While the writing was not as strong, it has its moments, where more was packed into the movie than the NF episode for Noahs arc. The NF Series follows more closely with the Manga, which is nice, but I also enjoyed the much darker movie. Which is weird as NF series, showed a married man basically turned into mincemeat, while the movie had a student do a suicide bombing and Ominaes darker past. Either way I will keep watching, its just a shame his suit glows like he is in another shonen anime.

Yeah I liked the darker tones hand drawn way better and always will and that's just 90s anime. You can't beat it. It's just more tasteful hands down and more fun to watch. Idk how he can say that doesn't count against the new one, it's an anime movie that is literally the most important part it's Spriggan. And I feel a lack of appreciation for the very creative and well executed experimentation why watch something if it doesn't make you feel something new

Netflix series butchered the noah's arc storyline imho. Kinda felt like they made Ominae into yet another edgy anime teen too. He is dumb and silly and wreckless in the movie but it felt much more genuine to me, owing to the fact that they did show some of his dark past in the movie which helps explain his somewhat reckless attitude . But in the series he is just like that for seemingly no reason other than "hurr durr dark edgy anime teen hurr durr". Just didn't make enough sense for me to continue to watch it. Also excusing the difference in animation quality because the original was a big budget anime movie doesn't really hold water to me, especially considering that netflix definitely isn't short on production budgets... And the whole comedic banter in the series is somewhat present in the movie but the tone is always serious. Having dumb highschool kid level jokes all the time just makes it seem like very other slice of life anime out there. Not the "oh hey the world is gonna die we better stop it" vibe that the original had. I don't know, just feels like it cheapens and undercuts the seriousness that the series is trying to portray. Kills it for me everytime. Finally; yes there is something you missed about the movie screen play, except it's not really about the screenplay. You didn't grow up watching it like a lot of us did. At the time it was one of the most ambitious and masterful anime movies ever made and I just don't think the series has come anywhere close to capturing that kind of lightning in a bottle.

I prefer the Netflix adaptation cause it shows how tough his opponents are. The visuals to the original spriggan but to many visuals cause lose the viewer away from the story and it can drag on. But definitely phenomenal show to watch! Love Spriggan

Spriggan is one of those anime I really loved as a teenager later. So powerful and brutal and amazing, really cool to see it being remade.

Ofcourse you will not see a series animated better than a high budget movie. I love the netflix animation.

Yeah. You see that a lot with people comparing the worst scenes in dragon ball super with clips from 90s dragon ball movies. Which isn't even fair. I don't think super looks good most of the time but its a BS argument.

Wait, was this the "safe" testground for the amazing blend of 2D and 3D in Chainsaw-Man? Because i can see them test to see the limits here, lower and higher limits, to dial in the most efficient process for Chainsaw-Man production.

God, I hate 3D CG with a passion. I just can't feel anything towards characters with a visual emotional range of bread. Especially after I've seen how natural and beautiful it actually can look in Arcane. I'm aware that it's not anime, but it showed clearly, that subtle facial expressions and beautiful backgrounds aren't just not possible in the medium. And afaik the budget wasn't even that high. The idea that they make a reboot of Trigun in this ugly ass style already makes me think this will be pure fan bait full of product placement. I really wish they'd stop and think that if they want to make it look 2Desque anyways, sticking to 2D right away would mayyyyybe be an option.

Dude this 3D animation is some of best in the business. 3D animation works when it’s used right! And spiggan Creators did a great job. Also not 2D animation has it weakness when it comes to action scenes.

@@androyus Actually, me (and many others) not enjoying it does mean there is less made of it. These shows are financed through product placements. Less people watching -> less margin for the sponsors -> less money to make the product.

@@blkghostxx It's surely better then many others, but basically in the way, that it looks more 2D. Amazing 3D is absolutely possible, it's just not great for anime the way it is used right now. It's repetitive and somehow sluggish and stuttery at the same time and mostly has a hard time fitting in the environments. Especially the light sources not being respected are a dead giveaway even if you try to ignore it. It's total uncanny valley territory seeing something that is 3D but trying to be 2D. What makes me so pissed off is that it's possible to be better, but it's just not being done. Additionally, I just don't see a benefit in making something that is objectively worse then the original other then to make money off of the fans. This is not making a great show for the sake of making a great show. I'd rather take 3 actually great new anime per year then 40 new crappy cheap anime in a season. I'm also not telling you what to like or not like. If all this doesn't bother you, that's great. But I'm absolutely entitled not to enjoy something.

I always thought that ARCAM was more like "Warehouse 13."

I like the Netflix anime, but I'd like it more if the suit wasn't so flashy, the rest are cool, and I love the cold war feeling of it, though the Netflix version of the ark episode I don't like, it went way to fast, what would be pretty cool if they made a reboot of the movie, it would be modern, but still have the cold war feeling of it, some of the episodes can be prequels, it has a lot of potential, they just need to fix it.

lol of course they left out the "Hitler had some good in him" arc out to avoid controversy. I like the TV more than the movie even if it's not as technically impressive; it's still very aesthetically tasteful and it nails the manga's vibe. I do want to rewatch the movie and appreciate it for its own merits instead of comparing it to the manga though.

I couldn't agree more. Netflix spriggan is trash. No need to remake it with a bunch of edgy teen bullshit in it imho. The classics are classics for a goddamn reason, let's keep them that way.

I enjoy the Netflix Spriggan just only for its use of CG for the standard military soldiers with tactical gear and stuff. Its pretty well done than anything I seen. But both Spriggan films are the goat overall.

Honestly hate the new shows animation because to me cg like this is just cheap and lazy looking and has a very.... jittery flow to it

The new version has a lot of flat camera angles, but what really bothers me is how skinny he is. He looks like his power armor is spray painted on or he must be a skeleton underneath. They keep using CGI to animate characters, which make them look wooden.

"Yeah, it doesn't reach the highs of the 2D hand drawing show, but..." I swear I hear some variation of this phrase in every KZreadr comparison of something that was originally 2D, but now is 3D. 3D models in anime seemingly moving towards becoming the norm means we'll see a lot less of those awesome memorable scenes from Ghost in The Shell, Redline, One Punch Man S1, Netflix's Castlevania, Dragon Ball Super: Broly (minus its 3D models scenes). Instead we'll get "Yeah, the fight scenes were fine" if we're lucky, and a 'Into The Spiderverse' every decade. Imagine how terrible that Chun LI vs Vega fight scene from the Street Fighter movie would look like in 3D in comparison to the original scene with the same budget.

The 2022 Version of Spriggan is pure Garbage. The Original has beautiful animation, the 2022 Version is a Computer Nightmare.

Both them are great was hoping they continue to season 2 about the 3rd reich its impossible to pursue it im sure alot of drama going on it

9:56 No, no it really doesn't work that well. It's very jarring and cheap looking already and cgi ages poorly and quickly. Go back and watch good cgi like in Fellowship of the Ring. The movie version still one of the best, so we're going backwards in handrawn quality and animation overall.

The Netflix adaptation isnt meant for fans of the movie. It’s meant to introduce a different generation to the world. While it follows the same story, it’s not a “remake”. By “remake” I mean a 1 to 1 adaptation. The show wasn’t created for old fans to relive watching the movie for the first time. Instead it tries to give a unique experience while telling the same story.

the netflix series is really bad compared to the 1998 movie. the translation, adaptation and execution was far better 20 years ago. the series feels like a standard cgi book to tv adaptation. also the obsession with the whole "high school" thing was made really bad in the series. it felt like a standard school drama bs anime. im really disappointed by the series

What is your definition of "woke" anyway? Anything that doesn't align with Christianity or makes it look bad? If so then I have bad news for you: aside from a select few, since the 70s until this very second, anime always treat Christianity as nothing more than a fancy plot device that they can portray however they want to fit the story. From Evangelion to Hellsing to Index, etc.

@@androyus that's not really bad news and you misinterpreted my comment. Woke is forced ideology in forms of subtle connotations that are embedded in the characters back story. I've played many games and watched many movies where beliefs didn't align with my own and I had no problem with that, because it was done in natural way that made sense for the fictional world it was conveying to. Wokeism is different, it doesn't care for adding substance into its own fictional world but adding it to reality in this world, so it becomes lecture to the viewers. It's everywhere nowadays and I was just asking for an opinion that was it. And Japan relatively conservative with conservative ideals and principles, that's why you don't see a lot of the woke propaganda in their TV shows, movies and video games. So stay salty my brother
