I used to stay in Kensington in Kingsford suburb area. I have moved to a cheaper area. My rent then was 385 a week . Then landlord raised the rent but didnt fixed water leakage. I worked.

If you intend to have a house later, you have to start saving now for the down payment. It would be very difficult to be old with no place to stay. Everyday we are not getting younger and the more you postpone your saving, the harder it is later.

While you might be right that $170 is not big compare to other things. It also depends on a person’s perspective. In a month that’s $680 which is huge already for some people especially when they are hitting savings goal. However what did not help was the emergency expenses that happened.

@@GP_1773 $8160 per year is not a huge lot, especially when he is not putting all of that away so really he is only saving a few thousands. I would have just kept renting the granny flat and put my hand up to do an extra shift per fortnight, instead of living like this just to save an extra couple of hundred dollars. Anyway each to their own!
