I knew the Revell chrome would win this contest, as it is a far better product than anything else on the market. But $30+ for a can is a little ridiculous. I’m sure I will bite the bullet and get some. Thanks for sharing.

i have graduated to an airbrush, but before I would use the simple Rustoleum metallic. I got decent results. The Revell paint though is the winner.

Cool video. I think that a lot of these paints would have more of a shine over gloss black. I know that AK chrome requires a gloss black base. The downside to the Revell paint is that it's $35 and can plus shipping.

Agreed, gloss black would give it a deeper chrome look.

This video was awesome. Would love to see all the spoons then get a sprayed clear coat since clear over chrome seems to be a mystery.

Thank you for that video Chris. It's helpful in more than one way, as some of us don't necessarilly look for a perfect chrome; sometimes you want a duller or aged chrome depending on the project, like a derelict or patina'd car. I was a bit bummed at first seeing this wednesday's video wasn't a model kit, but turns out I'm really grateful for that video!

FANTASTIC test, Chris! Love how you did everything the same, and with vs without primer. One caution to viewers: I've read MANY reports that ANY kind of clear, even Future, over the Revell Chrom SEVERELY dulls the finish. So Chris, a sweet addendum test would be for you to try a few clears & Future over some spoons sprayed with the Revell.

Yeah...the clear coat ruins the chrome effect..really hope that someone finds a clear coat,that will work with Revell...

This was a great video!! Fun and professional. I have tried many of the paints you demonstrated, but I always wondered if the proverbial "chrome in a can" actually existed. Yes, it is...Revell. I have never even heard of the brand. Now I'm off to search for it. Thank you for puting decades of curiosity to rest! ✌️

OMG, got a can of Revell for US$38 plus shipping and proved he's right. Incredible silver-like, mirror-like reflectivity. But now the question is, how if it's possible, to coat it. For display-only models, it's perfect without any coating; I get it. For my chess set, the first finger touch puts it right back in Krylonville.

This is one of the most helpful & instructional videos you have ever done. Exposing what is good to what isn't. I am watching live streams where the very subject is spraying chrome. I am going to refer this video like crazy. One of those paints you have buffs out shiny like crazy. I just read that on comments from Oz scale modeling's live stream today.

Ok last comment for today Chris! I used to work as an auto body tech, and I can tell you that clear coat makes a night and day difference. For example, a pinkish red raw color coat will almost turn bright red with clear. So may I suggest that you try clearing all those spoons, and come back to us with a part 2 of that video?

seems about right, most chrome Sprays or Paints need to have a Black high gloss base coat to get the chrome coming out , a matt primer take down the effect even on gloss paints

Clear over these chrome sprays will most likely turn them dull.

Great video. If you find more versions of “Chrome” paint, maybe put them up against the Revell paint. Keep ‘em coming.

The paint manufacturers consider "chrome" to be a color. Notice they do not say "polished chrome". That is because "chrome" is just a type of "silver" color. IMO, none of them look like chrome except for Revell which comes very close.

A very good review I've put off buying any chrome paint due to the fact I figured they wouldn't be chrome...Now I know Thanks!

Big thanks for doing this. Really love seeing how paints look out of the can as the cap color and what the label claims it to be are rarely accurate.

Brilliant! - Thank you so much. Apart from the model making I have been restoring some vintage cycle, battery and dynamo lamps. The 'vacuumed' chrome coating on the plastic bulb reflectors have often peeled off (or just plain 'evaporated'?) leaving bare non-reflective plastic and had got me stumped. Sending them away for re-vacuum chrome plating was going to be Extortionate $$$$$ The Revell chrome paint - Brilliant. The reflectors will look about as near to 'factory' as possible. Again, thank you so much.

Great video Chris and much appreciated. I have tried the Testors and the Rustoleum Bright Chrome. The Rusto was the best I found up til now. Not great but was acceptable. Now the Revell is a game changer. Have to try it but oh the price. I don’t yet have an airbrush so haven't tried AK or other airbrush chrome. I did enjoy this comparison.

Without access to a full lab this is a very honest test/review Chris. Maybe I need to start looking at some other Chromes as I tend to only use Molotov. The Revell is a difinite winner for a BRIGHT CHROME finish. Rustoleum Bright Chrome Finish seemed to really run on the unpainted spoon
