Rest In Peace LT. Ronnie E Gies and all of the other brothers lost on that tragic day. Great video, can’t wait to see what else you have coming up. My son is in E-236 aka the Brooklyn Fire Dept. Lots of history in that single engine firehouse.

Thanks GS for the great and informative video. I am retired now, had 22 years on the Flushing fire dept. In Michigan. 6 miles west of Flint, around 20 thousand population with the township. The name of the town used to be Clayton until former residents of Flushing Queens N.Y. moved here and the city's name was changed to Flushing in the late 1800's. A great little department trained by Flint city municipal chiefs to do aggressive interior attacks. My dad and father in law where city of Flint firefighters. But we've always loved and respected the FDNY.and the squads have always particularly interested me. And I really enjoyed the neighborhood history that you included in the video. I'm a musician and have played in Manhattan quite a few times over the years with different bands. Grand Funk, Rusty Wright and Mark Farner bands. Got stranded at LA Guardian during the 2016 blizzard after playing at BB Kings that night. You guys are the greatest firefighters in the world. And the rest of us all look up to and respect you. Keep salty and take all our prayers and blessings with you wherever you go!

interesting about the squads and rescues... their duties parallel each other so much that i'm surprised that the city leaders haven't tried to pare them down, get rid of one or the other because of their overlapping duties... in this day and age of cities crying BROKE, fire depts. are THE FIRST ones on the chopping block... good for you guys that you've been able to stave off the potential cuts to this vital part of the dept

@@bigeasydeg I guess he had to be there in the seventies? Flying Squad is Warehouse District / CBD; Mid City is further north. Recently renamed Rescue 2, with manpower cut in half, 4 of 8 men shipped out to Squad 2. It is unfortunate; Flying Squad had a sterling reputation and history. Did your father ever mention a Captain LaBruzzo?

@@GymRat202 Trust me, I know that it was our own Government that perpetrated 9/11. But I'd like to see interviews of the first Firefighters that were hired to replace the 343 Firefighters killed. Like how different it was for them coming into a Department that suffered so much loss. Compared to Firefighters hired years after.

@@GymRat202 "Gy" is a great thumbnail image for you. The beauty of it is that you didn't know "Gy" is the latin / medical prefix for a vagina, as in "gynecologist." No one is surprised that you missed it, the local gym, barber shop, methadone clinic, and parole office usually don't teach it. Public schools and a single mom really took a toll on you.
