Ken Browar and Deborah Ory are a husband and wife photography team and the creators of NYC Dance Project. NYC Dance Project is a collaboration between Ken and Deborah, merging their experiences and creative passions to create unique and beautiful portraits of the dance community. Each shoot is prepared as though it were it's own dance production, with attention paid to every detail - movement, lighting and the feeling of each image.
NYC Dance Project has been featured in many magazines including Harper's Bazaar, Italian Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue and Glamour. "The Art of Movement" is a coffee table book of their work published by Black Dog & Leventhal/Hachette Books that will be released on October 25, 2016. The book will feature over 70 dancers and choreographers.
Adorama will go behind the scenes in the photo studio with Ken and Deborah in this video featuring dancers Miriam Miller (New York City Ballet), Yannick Lebrun (Alvin Ailey) and Liudmila Konovalova (Vienna State Ballet).

Finally, a true photographer
Great Answer by the Husband at the end . . . "I'd be watching". - That's real love!
I think that may be the singularly most inspirational thing I have ever seen on youtube. Loved this finely crafted short film! I enjoyed the beauty of the images Ken and Deborah create, but combined with the heartwarming collaboration and interaction between these two, well it brought tears to my eyes. As a serious amateur photographer who has often felt may have missed his calling, seeing films like this one serve to inspire me to keep shooting, so thank you both. Bravo! Very well done!
The most artistic video on photography in a very long time... thank you for sharing.
The light setup and lighting are just amazing!! I'm awed. Keep producing fine works Ken and Deborah!

Looks like the main light is a Broncolor Para 222 Reflector with wrap around Broncolor Diffuser Cloth. Amazing pictures!
Ken and Deborah are amazing and so are the dancers!!
you're right about the movement - and perfection. the reaction to your work reflects the breath and life you allow in every frame. thank you for the project and staying with it.
Thank you for this. I have loved this project for a long time and it's so wonderful to meet the photographers and their process.
awesome!...watching these artists collaboration should be mainstream reality TV - not the mindless crap that turns people into zombies ...

Beautifully done, & masterfully executed. This is what I had envisioned as a fun hobby project for myself and the potential that exists is so bloody exciting. I cannot properly convey how thankful I am for the inspiration to move forward and see my goal to its completion.

Awesome work!
Serious question - what sort of viewer finds a video like this, watches it, but then gives it a thumbs down? Why were they even here in the first place?

Beautiful artistic pictures
Thanks for the video. great story. I also shoot a lot of dancing as I'm also a dancer. Different dance dynamics (lindy hop is a social, partnered dance) but I can appreciate the passion :)
Beautiful story. Absolutely love your work. Where can I find a backdrop like that?
Absolutely stunning work! Love the medium format, your attention to detail...those skilled and awe inspiring dancers...wow! Can I ask how big your backdrop is and if they are Oliphant's...I find betting backdrops wide enough for dance to be challenging. Your lighting is beautiful too. Thank you for this video Adorama!!
superb
Can you please share with us the backdrop you used? Love the color. Awesome work. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Love the cat...It can jump the highest!
I've been following your stunning work on Instagram for awhile. So beautiful. Do you think a photographer who was never a dancer could photograph dancers like this?

Beautiful documentary. The work is very Irving Penn. If he were alive today I could imagine that if he had all the latest gear and a digital MF camera he would do it very similar :) Great work.

Great video. Love the insight and behind the scenes look into what you do. Also, can I have your living room studio? :)
Hello Couple... Awesome work.. Loved it to death..Can you guys give some insight about the backdrop you are using.. its length and width .. How do you make sure that dancer does not slip on the floor while they are moving or leaping? Please help.
wow!
Wish I could have that studio :(
Gorgeous~!!! Is it a leaf shutter lens ?
