A question I have is can you see if your song has been picked by playlists before its release date?Like when you submit it to Spotify for being playlisted a few weeks before, do you find out if curators have picked it before the release? Thanks For uploading such an informative video dude. I have a question. I do not have any sort of Spotify account at all. I getting ready to upload my first album through distro kid. I am unsure if I need to create a Spotify artist account separately on my own first period. Then upload my album through distro kid. And then link the two/Claim it? Do you know if Distrokid will make an artist account automatically if I do not have one already? I'm so confused at the process and what to do first.

Do we have to link our spotify user account with a new artist account? If not, can we create a new free account that gives us access to everything as an artist?

Good question. This can happen. You’ll need to get your specific artist URI code. You can get this from your distributor.

Does your first single need to be LIVE on release date? Or can you claim it sooner? It’s been about a week since I’ve uploaded to Distrokid and is set to release in a week

yes exactly. You first need to upload to your music distributor and then it will be an artist profile for you that you will need to go and claim

Thanks for the video. I have a question. Yesterday I uploaded the banner/header/ main cover photo as you called it. It shows up on the desktop version but on phones the picture is the single release picture. Does it just take a bit longer for the banner/header picture to upload in phone version?

Just a recommendation I'd rather use distrokid because it charges you only $20 a year for unlimited singles and albums.

How do I add nick names or aliases to my artist profile? That way if someone looks up your alias it sends them to your artist page.

Hey Jonas, you'll have to do this with your distributor, this is a data point that they hold, not spotify.

I've got a problem managing my Spotify for Artist. Actually 2 problems. First one - I can't log in on the Spotify for Artist Web page. I don't know why, even if my profile is already been claimed by me and verified (in fact, I can log in on my IOS Spotify for Artist app). As soon as I try to access Spotify for Artist Web it's asking me again to claim the profile... Why? The email address is correct. Second problem - using Spotify for Artist App I can't change the avatar image. I upload it, I can see it uploaded and then after a few seconds it disappears and the old image comes back. Can anyone of you help me please?

You have to upload a song in order to get an artist profile. Once your artist profile is up there you have to claim your account using “spotify for artist” app or the website. I think it takes a few days before you can actually get into your account but i’m not sure, I forgot. So in short, there’s no way for you to edit your artist profile without a song, as far as my knowledge goes. I tried explaining as best as I could, sorry if it sounds jumbled up, i tried.

Hey Ross, that’s no problem. I have some alias’ too. You would just make sure to put the alias as the artist name when you upload a song on tunecore. You can have your regular name as the sign up info.

Charles you mention in the video the words 'After you upload your music to Spotify' but to be clear don't you mean 'After your distributor uploads your music to Spotify' [?] There is currently no way for an artist to upload their own music to Spotify.

Hey Mark, you're correct, there is no current way for an artist to get their music on Spotify themselves, you have to go through a third party. So yes, I mean your distributor.

I am trying to upload a chakra balancing cd. So it isn't music. I see folks who have uploaded guided meditations etc. But there isn't a genre option for that. So any ideas about primary and secondary genre and sub genre would be super helpful. Thanks for this it helped too.

Are you using DistroKid? Usually just try to get it to the closet genre you can. For instance, if there's no guided meditation genre then perhaps use "world music" or "instrumental" instead.

It’s a little different. On Spotify they pay you for streams. On SoundCloud it’s free to upload but they don’t pay you.

Yeah. My thing is, it doesn't even tell me "Claim Your Profile" just "Get Access" . And when I click on that, a blank page just comes up. Doesn't give me any slot whatsoever to fill in my name or something. And I've tried it with not just my phone and my PC as well... Is there a solution to this?

Can I gain complete access to my Spotify artist page an turn my self to the only administrator where only I have access to the page. Even though my friends created it for me under them. Since they help me with it. But I was not aware. I want to have complete control. Since I now created my own independent Distrokid an instead of me receiving the emails or when I pitch my new independent song they receive the email instead of my self. So I want to be the one to receive all notification an not have to ask or wait for them to send me .

What happens when there are multiple artists on spotify with the same artist name? I havent gone to a music distributer yet but I checked out the profile claiming thing on spotify and apparently there are a lot of artists called Decoy haha. And not all of them have a profile picture. How will I know which one I have to claim?
