    The key to having fun and being successful at poker is to convince yourself that the game doesn't matter. Then, you will have no tells. All your actions will be natural. They will not be indicative of anything because your hand and the game is not what determines your emotions.

    Society puts too much emphasis on physical capabilities rather than intellectual. Being a runner who was handed a ridiculous amount of money towards college while watching a 4.0 genius friend of mine gather not a dime was disgusting. Strength is simple compared to the power of the brain

    Neither does tag football. It all depends on competitive level. Things like pot odds probability statistics reading and deliberating skills get better as you play.And people can be born with these talents. I believe the Stu Ungar story would prove to you talent exist in poker.

    i was pointing at it doesn't require simple strength to make it in a sport. it takes a lot of hard work, dedication and skill. as for the money part i agree, they get paid too much but then again it's a supply and demand chain. and damn where do you live, around my area a person with a 4.0 could get a small scholarship around $1000

    They covered Poker because its a game with sport like qualities. But unless you've sat in a game where you can feel the eyes on you trying to pick up any little information and the prize of you succeeding is way more than just bragging rights you probably won't fully get it. And comparing what you see on tv on WSOP to what you know is just like those guys that watch football and talk about how they could play. Give someone like David 1 tell and time and he'll eat your bankroll for lunch.

    lol @ all the debates about whether poker is a 'sport' or 'game'. It's neither, something doesn't have to be shoehorned into one of those definitions. It's a highly competitive and incredibly lucrative continuous competition that makes and loses people fortunes. Feel free to sit here and debate the semantics of that here on youtube as much as you want.

    does this mean that starcraft 2 (code S, code A, MLG etc) isnt a sport? does this mean that those who play chess arent playing a sport? just because you cant play it at a level that would even rival some of the worst poker pros, doesnt mean you should be insulting the sport

    Since the beginning of 2000. Today poker is no less a sport than for example snooker, chess or backgammon. They are all games that turned into sports because of their increasing popularity. If you disagree, please explain why you do so.

    High school isn't competitive in its nature and intent same for magicians. Chess is built to be a competitive, high skill sport/game. If they game is competitive in its nature and requires large amounts of skill then do the players a favor and call it a sport because most chess players invest 3-4+ years mastering the game and have skill beyond belief yet they only play a "game" and get no respect while athletes do the same and get praise world wide

    I personally don't define those as sports because it takes massive amount of intelligence to get through highschool. Is school a sport now. A lot of things require intelligence but I wouldn't call them all sports. In most ''physical'' sports you have to have skill and Intelligence. Its not just about strength. You have to know what you are doing. So personally, chess and poker are not and never will be SPORTS. p.s. Magicians use massive amounts of intel, witt and deception like chess. Sport?

    this data is not legit cause it does not include that factor that people act more serious and differently when they have real cash on line........like real pressure. like if you are down half a mill in 1 night....you might act differently in the game......i still love the effort though.

    but what you are implying is that sport is any kind of competitive display of virtue (whether physical, intellectual or some other fit) and this definition is way too broad and not really rigorous. my suggestion is that any thing that can be called "sport" has to fulfill the following conditions: (a) (following patrice o'neal) there has to be an element of 'defense' (b) there has to be an element of physical activity: if it can be simulated on a computer - not a sport. poker - not a sport

  • @ThemisGaming
    @ThemisGaming11 жыл бұрын

    You are someone who defines a sport as "physical competition" which is something people need to stray away from. Chess, is a sport because it requires massive amounts of intelligence to play. Poker is a sport because it requires large amounts of intelligence, witt, and deception to play. These are nicknamed "mental sports" because they require more intelligence then simple strength.

    Easily one of the dumbest things i've ever read. Why is that definition of sport something people need to stay away from? It takes a fairly quick reaction time and coordination to play Call of Duty but at least I don't delude myself into believing I'm playing a sport.
