That's weird because he's done plenty of video games (I remember him being the villain of Jak 2 which must be around the same time) and splashing out for expensive actors back then was rare so I assume he's not too expensive. Fun Fact: the developers of Rehydrated brought in the Speedrun world record holder for the original game to test what they had so far, he even changed the camera angle to a near perfect replica of the original, if that doesn’t guarantee the remake is in good hands, I don’t know what does...

@@toonzach2870 Eh I dunno about The Paper. Thing is a lot of Sponegbob fans grew up on the DVDs. Especially those who played BFBB. So I'm sure tons of kids saw The Paper just as often as any other episode, as I know I did.

Growing up in the 2000’s, it felt like a crime watching SpongeBob since my Grandma hated it cause she said it was a “Bad Influence.” And if she caught me watching it, I would get sent back to my room. And this is the same Grandma that bought me GTA SA for my birthday.

I still have my PC copy of the Spongebob Squarepants movie (the tie-in game). The PC (and MacOS) game was a mouse-controlled adventure game while the consoles got an action game instead. There was a lot of references to older computer games in the PC game, though. For example, in Chapter 5 after entering a hazy part of the plains, Spongebob says "It's too foggy to see! I could be eaten by a grue.", which is an obvious reference to Zork.

MariktheGunslinger That’s one thing so miss about previous gens. Back then, if you’re a third party publisher, especially if you’re publishing a licensed game, you had to have that game on EVERY console. So instead of just repeating the same game on every console, sometimes the GBA ports would be entirely unique experiences you don’t learn about until years after the fact. They’re pleasant surprises even when the console version is garbage, but the handheld version is an underrated classic. But that is a rare occurrence and I can understand why publishers and customers don’t like it much.

Ight now that I've had time to watch, I wanna comment on some questions and concerns in the video to help provide insight for why some of these flaws exist: Krabs voice actor was likely busy with the Crash Bandicoot series during the making of this game. Mermaid Man VA was likely too expensive to hook in for a low budget game, as he was a very famous actor. It's up to Nickelodeon to replace the VAs in this game for the Rehydrated version, but it will likely be difficult due to legal issues surrounding rerecording voices (union stuff). That, and both actors who voiced Mermaid Man since the game was made are no longer with us. One of the biggest flaws in this game is failing to teach players how to use the menu warping system. It is one of the most convenient mechanics in any game I've played and makes the game waaaaaaay more enjoyable. Falling off the slide may cause the time challenges to end, however pausing the game and warping back to the mission you started from is an instant way to start over without having to go down the slide again. When I visited the development studio for Rehydrated to help test and give feedback during its alpha phase, I did mention this flaw and hopefully they have it fixed! As for the graphical bugs, the GameCube and PS2 versions are known to have plenty of them, not to mention poor lighting and draw distance. These issues, along with the compressed audio and downscaled textures, are all fixed in the Xbox version of the game, the definitive version to play. It's aged soooooo much better than the GCN/PS2 versions, but those are still fun to play for sure. As a side note, I find it extremely impressive how optimized the framerate is (60 on all consoles) and how stable the software is (won't crash for reasons other than hardware failure, scratched disks or extremely specific maneuvers). Even some of the most beloved games of the era capped at 30 fps and crashed randomly. side note: don't give into the begging for more SB games lol, LambHoot can vouch for that. glad u had fun with this one :)

I was hoping that somebody here mentioned this about the spatula warping checkpoint solution. I remember as a kid always getting annoyed whenever I got the checkpoint because I’d have to go through it just to try again. It was only until several years later when I played it another time that I discovered you could warp to the top and I was so equally and relieved and upset I didn’t figure it out sooner haha

7:55 yes you can easily reset the mission. its a simple as teleporting back to the mission giver via selecting the spatula in the pause menu. it's really useful for beating mermaid man's time in kelp forest, as hopping from the vines can be quite tricky

The skit at 3:50 had me in stitches, I don't know why that line is so funny. There's a lot of jokes that wouldn't fly today in this game, Planktons offer to Patrick to have him work in a sweatshop being the first to come to mind. Still hilarious.

I'll never forget the fond memories of this game years ago. Especially the time when my cousin borrowed my Xbox copy, and never returned it.

The movie game is fun and all, but the issue with it is its linearity. The fact that the linear progression was tied into the traditional sandbox progression meant that more often than not, you're literally stopped in the story until you pretend it's BFBB for a few more hours.

Ridge CftKK is a classic. Fact is, I'm actually playing it right now. I hope Ant covers it.

This is one of the few games I’d call an actual “experience.” There is SO MUCH CONTENT, so many things to do, huge sections (that pretty much feel like separate worlds) to explore, and none of it feels tedious or tiresome in the slightest. My nostalgia may be strong for this game, but I don’t think anyone can deny how good it actually is. Can’t wait for Rehydrated

Also this is my favorite 3D platformer (yes i have played a Hat in time, and all the Mario stuff). I just find that BFBB does something that the other AAA games don't: All the missions are fun (even the ball rolling one). I love the final boss too! Best 3D platformer final boss ever. (and that music tho)

A Hat in Time was actually developed by less than 10 people, making it an indie game. They all lived in different countries and states. And for what we got, its astonishing to see what so few people can develop if they put their hearts in the project

Battle for Bikini Bottom is one of my all time favorite games and I'm glad to see you finally covering it!

i never understood the hate for the 8ball stages. i mean, it isnt girl power station... the logic of the 8balls always made sense to me, so though they can be a hindrance to work with, it always felt like it was my own fault for the failures, and not the "wonky controls". i think the only exception would be the tic tac toe gimmick level, as the explosions are far less refined. I also got true 100% on the expansion, meaning inner agent 3 and every mission cleared with EVERY available weapon. the 8ball stages have nothing on the truly infamous stations.

Can you talk about spongebob squarepants: lights, camera, pants? That one is a great game that no one knows

Such a classic gem. I'm gonna go back and replay it. I got an M classic recently and that gamecube HDMI adapter, so this should be the most visually impressive way to play the original release ever, and it'll be the perfect thing to break in my eon adapter with...now that I've finished my SA2 replay lol

It's so weird to see gameplay of this game. This game was such a big part of my childhood and it will always be special to me.

I heard there remastering the game

I've been going back to this game on a yearly bases for like 6 years now because this was my favorite game I played as a kid and want to realize that life isn't all bad so long as I have it with me. there is nothing that makes me happier than the fact they are actually remastering it.

reminder that the Movie game is actually like full on sequel to this and is at least on-par.

I mean, by technicality it has a lot more games then most video game characters. So...SpongeBob for Smash confirmed.

Cftkk was a mixed bag; good concept and pretty amazing on the first playthrough, but the lack of replay value (Costumes don't count) and only 9 levels that drag on really damaged my opinion. If the game had maybe another 9 levels, and specifically splitting the levels into arcs in free play, then sure. Also the issue that you need to play the final level three times over in free play to get all three "endings" which amounts to a single level and cutscene. I wanted to like the game as the dream motif was something up my alley, but it needed so much more work to fix an original idea.

Chimeratech O.D. Yeah I agree. It kinda just filled some TV tropes with Spongebob characters and added an underwater theme. I still like it though because I thought the road rage part was funny and the Patrick Man (or something) was something Patrick would actually do. 😂

@@nicksundae5499 I had a thought after my comment: they should have had the game up to Hypnotic Highway, then a game-exclusive villain suddenly appears to win the race while wearing a mask. All 3 characters are bound to nightmares as the commentator dialogue implies, then have another nine levels as twisted, difficult "nightmare" versions of the OG nine, each ending their third level by attaining a third of the villain's mask via a boss fight with an extra plankton boss level to push the Hypnotic Highway rematch to the 19th level. Redo the race as a nightmare redux you can win, racing both other characters and the unmasked villain, and maybe a level 20a/b/c for each character as they wake up. Just some rudimentary idea I had to expand the game to an appropriate length.

I replayed this game a couple years ago in my first semester of college... still as amazing as when I was a kid!

my childhood. i remember playing that game on the PS2 for days. never 100% it but wow its great being reminded of this.

Out of all them, I would never have expected AntDude to cover probably one of my favorite games of all time The music in BFBB rocks!

GOD one of the few times I did not regret grabbing that one random licensed game from Blockbuster as a kid. This game rules

I'm not gonna lie, I started crying when I saw Rehydrated being announced. BfBB is my childhood.

4:30 it’s because Clancy brown is really greedy when it came to stuff like that and wanted more money then the rest of the other voice actors. Thats why games he was in he has very little speaking roles like the movie game and Atlantis square pantis. And for mermaid man I’m not to sure why maybe because he might have been to expensive to call for or maybe just old age but idk.

Glad to see someone else played the Mis Ed-Ventures. That was the licensed game I grew up on, alongside the GBA version, and I still enjoy it.

I think the reason they didn't get Mr. Krabs's voice actor (Clancy Brown) because they didn't offer him enough money so he turned it down. But now that shouldn't be a problem for rehydrated because he did Heropants and Robotic Revenge and those were bloody awful

I actually grew up with this game and I loved it as a kid. My older brothers friend gave us his PS2 along with Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom. Then he gave it to me and let me play it and it was one of the first games I ever played! Same thing with Ed, Edd and Eddy the Mis-Adventures later on. This brings back memories...

I don't know how i ended watching spongebob battle for bikini bottom stuff... And i'm so glad i did 😂😂😂 Keep up that's so good i love it.

I am so hyped for the remake. I didn't play a lot of Crash or Spyro as a kid, but this i played

Kirby on the thumbnail has the Alaskan Bull Worm face. And I love that little detail.

I grew up playing the sequel to this game, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Game. I was so excited when I found out about this game and its similar mechanics a couple of years ago.

I’ve played Battle for Bikini bottom many times over the years so you know damn well I’m preordering rehydrated

Well, I would like to thank you for at least _mentioning_ the PC version; as pure crap as it was, it's refreshing to hear someone at least mention it.
