Spondylosis:
What Is Spondylosis?
Spondylosis is a condition in which there is abnormal wear on the cartilage and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae). It is a common cause of chronic neck pain.
Spondylosis is caused by chronic wear on the spine. This includes the disks or cushions between the neck vertebrae and the joints between the bones of the cervical spine.
Over time these changes can press down on (compress) one or more of the nerve roots. In advanced cases, the spinal cord becomes involved. This can affect not just the arms, but the legs as well.
Symptoms of spondylosis:
Most people experience no symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they typically include pain and stiffness in the neck.
Tingling, numbness and weakness in the arms, hands, legs or feet
Lack of coordination and difficulty walking.
Causes of spondylosis:
As people age, the structures that make up the backbone and neck gradually develop wear and tear. These changes can include:
- Dehydrated disks or degeneration of Disc.
- Bone spurs.
- Cervical spondylosis.
Treatment of spondylosis:
Treatment of spondylosis is through surgery. To relieve pain some medicines are also prescribed.
