In Tomsk, a city I was born and grew up in, outside of the flats block I grew up in, there is a small chapel dedicated to liquidators from Tomsk and Seversk that went to Chernobyl to fix the faults of the higher ups because we had a reactor as well (which also had an accident but much later in 1993). It was truly the whole country coming together to fix a problem, that even my overall insignificant city had to bear the consequences.

The telephone call in the background actually is the real call that had been made, reporting a fire of the roof of the NPP. Poor firefighters were doomed the second they stepped out of their engines...
My hometown was designed like Pripyat (well, as far as I know). Every single member of my family works at the our local nuclear power station. Hell, even I was planning to get the second higher education and start working there. The Chernobyl disaster was always a huge deal for me, I can't describe my feeling even in my native language about it. I'm still scared because of the situation around Chernobyl station right now. I'm scared because of the whole war actually, I have many family members and friends in Ukraine. "Spokoynaya Noch'" always calms me down, I like to play this song on my guitar. So, to sum it up, thank you for this video. I needed something like this.

If someone is interested from where is the talking in the background it is from a documentary movie made by Discovery about Chernobyl disaster. It is kinda old ( made in 2005 ) but is pretty well made for it's time and I advice anyone interested to watch it. The 2nd part of the talk was between the dispatcher on watch reporting to the other local fire brigades about fire on the reactor 3 and 4. The full recording is available also in KZread and it's pretty chilling to listening.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how the little things in this video are so accurate? From the folder Djatlow is holding having "RBMK" on it (love the "SEKS" by the way) to the firefighter's uniform, with the rubber shoulder thing for the water and the rebreather they were issued, plus the face shield. Not to mention the siren is period-correct as well, being the "СГУ-60" siren commonplace in the 70s and 80s. Bravo to Mr Jormungandr for all of this detail which may be overlooked by many. On a side note where is that image of the fire being extinguished from? It is hauntingly beautiful yet looks frighteningly realistic. Is it an actual photo of the incident?
@jrmungandr
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Cool that you picked all that up, I really had to get the sirens right and luckily there were some uploads I could source from, I think no matter if one knows that sounds are correct, the brain subconsciously does make the connection, so it feeds the overall impression regardless. The picture is from the HBO series, which similarly went to great lengths for visual authenticity. Thanks for watching!
