Everyone keeps complaining about the audio quality but to me it honestly feels like Nimoy speaking to the younger generations, giving his wisdom from the past to the future to create better captains in us all. I like it, it's charming

I think to those that know the clips, it brings nostalgia and more meaning just knowing that it IS Nimoy. To those that have no real connection to the lines or who speaks them then they likely either don't even know why it sounds like that or don't quite understand why it was done the way it was done.

I'm happy with it as it is. The resurrection of dead actors into living roles is still somewhat in its infancy, so it shouldn't be expected to be perfect. But I do think that, given the time and budget, they could've still done considerably better. But, that's less a complaint and more an observation.

In that case, you will love this from the Lost Years novels, when Spock was training cadets at the Academy. His students routinely ranked the highest in science, technical skills, and operational skill, but were also noted to have a dedication to duty, their crews, and the ideals of the Federation not eguivocally seen in other classes.

He should know a thing or two about being a great Captain, he served under 2 greats in Pike and Kirk and had a stint as Enterprise Captain, even though it was just a teaching post, but I think Spock's cadets performed admirably during the confrontation with Khan. Spock trained them well. (Granted it seemed he had help from some of the other original Enterprise crew members) Plus, there were all those times he took command when Kirk wasn't there.

it's interesting because the clips go relatively in chronological order, from TOS to the TOS movies to his one appearance in TNG and finally the Kelvin movies in a scene where we see Dal really starting to grow and mature, this wisdom is passed down to him from the own evolution of Spock throughout the Star Trek saga. Absolutely beautiful to watch

They didn't do it because it was a tribute. You're absolutely right They did it because they wanted you to remember watching the original series for the first time or the episodes where those lines were said. given that it's a children's show I think it was a really super creative way to make us remember what it was like when we heard that for the first time It was brilliant.

I'd be tickled if Kirk himself made a show. He had a few nuggets of wisdom about leadership and captaining a starship. You can't shove your pains to the side, you NEED your pain to lead by. Your MISTAKES need to stay with you for your life in order to lead properly. Your starship is but a piece of metal in space. It is YOUR CREW that fills it, and makes it YOUR Starship. LEAD your crew and they will follow you to either glory, or to a flaming mess. You decide.

What I love about this entire sequence is how it's a firm gut punch to a lot of fans who fantasize about being captain of the Enterprise or really any Starfleet vessel. Yes, it would be awesome to work with our favorite crewmates. Yes, it would be insanely cool to pick and choose our command staff from the entirety of the Star Trek roster. But you have to be able to be a CAPTAIN in order bring them together to make it all work. Just having the top names on hand won't automatically make you win. Kirk made mistakes. Picard made mistakes. Janeway made mistakes. But what matters the most is what they did NEXT.

The Kobayashi Maru is a test that perpetually evolves as people take it, so that even if a solution seemingly appears, the simulation adds new variables to make it unsolveable. It is a test to see how a cadet deals with seemingly unwinnable scenarios, and while there have been a few notable "wins" or "stalemates", those are outliers. You don't win, you just find your own way to lose.

But nevertheless, props for doing it. Just in concept, I love that he's learning from Spock. We all know Nimoy is no longer with us. I would not have faulted them if they were able to get someone who could do a spot-on impression of him. Very distracting. especially when one remembers when each line was spoken. However, this might also work for the idea for this hologram. It’s not really Spock, the computer is just splicing voice recordings together to create the illusion of Spock talking to you. So this doesn’t work, and yet it does at the same time. I always thought Spock's assertion that a crew should be lied to so that they believe its captain is perfect was a strange bit of 1960s TV machismo. It was a quite a surprise, given the many positive messages of leadership available, that Prodigy's writers chose that particularly peculiar clip for a 2022 children's moral story.

It’s pretty jarring. Worse than that, if you’re an experienced Trekkie, you immediately know source for nearly all the dialogue. It starts with Spock’s conversation to Garovick in Obsession, then to Kirk in The Enemy Within and then to old Spock from Wrath of Khan to his conversation with Picard in TNG’s Reunification, Part 2 and finally, I believe, his farewell to Chris Pine’s Kirk Star Trek 2019. “It’s the only logical conclusion” is the only line I couldn’t directly place because it’s pretty generic and I need a little more. In a society that has fully interactive holograms, this cut and paste Spock is a little weird. There’s a very good Nimoy impersonator out there. They should have used him instead.

I don't watch modern Star Trek. I think its absolutely dreadful what CBS have done to Trek. But having watched this, I applaud the creativity of whomever was behind this scene. Its inventive, creative, and bloody well done. More high production values like this would put Trek back where it belongs-as the best television ever produced anywhere.

I second that, it's a good show! I love alien cast, I mean I'd like an ex borg in there too but oh well. They do need a Security Officer. They have a Captain, A No1, a science officer, an engineering officer, a helm officer. Well none of them are officers, just kids who find a ship and use it to escape slavery but do an awesome job considering! The pet is way cooler than Data's cat and they might be joined by a Furry for the next season which could be the medic.

You missed the point....this simulation is running archives sounds of the original projected in a hologram simulation of the Kobayashi Maru, it kinda makes sense why they sound so weird and not match the hologram projection, I find this a very cleaver and creative way to use the original voices, and no voice actor will get you more invested emotional with these dialogues than the OG Spock Leonard Nimoy himself.

I dunno, something about animating around live-action voice tracks always feels awkward, the sound quality is very inconsistent and the dialogue between the archival recordings and new audio doesn't feel natural. People will disagree, but simply getting a great impersonator to read the lines would have been better.

I get what they were going for, but oof that execution was awful. There's the obvious issue with the wildly varying audio quality for each line Spock delivers, but the real problem is the choice of dialogue. Some of it fits, but so much of it feels out of place and inappropriate for the scene. It comes off like they couldn't find dialogue that said what they needed, so they just went with something they hoped people would infer their attempted meaning from instead, and it's clumsy as hell.

I was kinda using my imagination here to help me better accept the disjointed audio of Spock. I was saying to myself, that since Protostar was disconnected from Star Fleet, and Dal had many choices available to him, the computer used archived logs and mission logs to put together Spock's audio in such short notice and little information to work with. That's my only explanation, because it's not just the audio quality differences, but the fact that Spock was just answering in quotes, instead of pure dialogue. Of course, the original audio was for nostalgic purposes, and respect to the late Leonard Nimoy, and putting together just bits from episodes and movies had it's obvious disconnect, but the my explanation helped me better accept the issue.

Recycled sound bites of Spock from TOS and then the movies. Strung together, recorded at obviously different times in Nimoys life, it sounds very disjointed and artificial indeed. You can’t watch this anyplace now, it seems Paramount as abandoned this orphan entirely. Perhaps for good reason. Voyager never struck me a kids show at all and to be kind to this one, it’s got more in common with animated Star Wars than Trek. I can see why it was canceled.

Just heard about this show. At first I was optimistic as the title sequence actually looks quite good. But having watched a trailer, and now this, I can see it's the same old Kurtzman vandalism of Star Trek. True Star Trek is about a hopeful, enlightened future of mankind - a people who are civilized, dignified, orderly, and decent, living in a beautiful, aspirational world. In stark contrast, all I see here is ugliness, scruffiness, freakishness, and a spirit of rebellion. These characters look like villains, and this purple-faced freak is utterly grotesque to the senses. Real Starfleet officers like Kirk and Spock dressed smartly and decently and would never associate with slimeballs like these - more likely that Spock would nerve pinch this punk, like he did in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home!

That's because the action is centered in another sector of the Galaxy currently not under the influence of the Federation. Brutal, gritty and lawless. The main cast are kids who have been slaves during most of their lives and are trying to live up Starfleet ideas without any of the formal training. Of course they look undignified in their roles.
