Splitting Maple on Eastonmade 12-22 Log Splitter

Ойын-сауық

Husband and wife team use the 6 way wedge on the Eastonmade 12-22 log splitter today. Will big knotty maple prove too much? Splitting the rounds Rachel bucked up in a previous video. So the driveway can get re-graded and have stone added, as it is a muddy mess right now. Teamwork makes the job much easier getting these logs split down to size. We also announce our next live stream and 4,000 subscriber give away! We will be giving away an Ororo heated vest, Top Tes moisture meter, and some other great gifts! Ororo provided Rachel and I with these vests to try and review, they will also be providing us with a vest to give away to a subscriber which we will be doing on our Live March 25, 2023!

    There you go a log that the splitter could not break It’s nice to see the limit of a splitter. I don’t know how your log lift is plumbed up but I believe if you install a restricted fitting in line that would slow the lift down and smooth the operation. Great video

    Thanks Cary, we were still able to get it broke down, that was the first round we couldn’t push through the 6 way with the 12-22, it’s been an impressive machine. I believe their is a restrictive valve in it, it doesn’t run too fast. We’d like if it lifted a touch higher though to help feed the rounds down.

    Andrew, you need to put a sticker on the splitters. " Butt to the wedge ". Need to follow the grain of the round. If you put the small end to the wedge then you are cutting not splitting. It will down shift into 2nd stage every time. Dale

  • @DaleFarrish

    @DaleFarrish

    @Hard Working Man it also makes a lot less splitter trash. I have a 36" stroke splitter with a 4 way hydraulic wedge. It will split almost anything as long as the butt is to the wedge. When spitting 36 " long rounds the grain makes a huge difference. It is trying to compress the wood instead of opening it up. I so have a Wallenstein processor and it very seldom goes into 2nd stage if the butt is too the wedge. Typical 16 gallon per minute 2 stage pump in 1st stage will pump 12.2 gallons per minute, in 2nd stage it only pumps 4.1 gallons per minute. Huge time difference if you can keep it in 1st stage. Good luck with the gravel driveway. I have a gravel pit on my property but the clay content is a little high. Makes for a lovely soupy mess in the string. Crown that driveway if you can. Dale

    I feel you on the arms thing. Putting gravel down on soft ground is like passing in the wind. You will need to do what you need to do to avert the mud, but it is best to plan ahead. Put gravel down in the summer when the ground is solid so the gravel will compact. The gravel will not compact if put down on soft ground, wasting time, gravel, and money. Carpe diem!

    That would probably help but the amount of laundry we go through in this house with everyone doing some here or there it always ends up in the dryer! I do my best to keep my wool clothing separate but that occasionally get thrown in with regular laundry by a kid from time to time as well.

    TCT...price out the cost of getting a few truck loads. I did the math near me...2cu yd at a time vs getting a 17cu yd truck load for $350 (including the gravel)...the truckloads were a no brainer. They also are pros at spreading gravel and just set the back gate to open a couple of inches and lay a nice layer on top of everything.

    @@jamesbainton James you are spot on with your recommendation. I priced gravel out last fall and it definitely is cheaper for them to deliver and spread it. I’ll check again this year to make sure pricing hasn’t changed. I still will have to get a couple dump trailer loads to get to areas a big truck can’t make it. The footprint of my tractor and dump is much less than truck and dump. Appreciate your suggestion 👍TCT
