@@goliath9446 doesn't matter. The fact that BF2042, a 2021 game with a solid destruction engine managed to fumble so hard in their destruction, shows how poorly made the game was.

The fact that this game never got a sequel is so fucking sad. This game is without a doubt the craziest and most intense racing game I have ever played.

Unless you're go all Die Hard, Rambo, Lethal Weapons, Mission Impossible or Speed mode.

One of my most favorite power plays: 1:27 Just the sudden silence and then a loud concussive boom followed by chaos makes this one of my favorites, but even then this game's audio, graphics and although dated gameplay it is still one of the best racing games Ive ever played.

The thing I love about that one is that the helicopter pilot says "Get ready" on the radio before he literally smashes a Dump truck in the storm drains canals. Amazing.

11 years later, still looks decent even in 4K. It's a shame it didn't get that sequel/prequel, which was to be set in the early 80's but was cancelled.

Mainly because this is PC version ;) But, sadly, they decided to keep 30fps lock for PC as well. Only some 3rd party hack could unlock 60fps.

This game looks SO GOOD! I envy everyone who's played it. This was truly the Fast & The Furious of racing games. Epic stuff.

WHAT?!?!? I NEVER EVEN KNEW THIS GAME EXISTED!!! Were there ads for this, because I sure didn't see any! It was a treat just to see 1 single explosion in Burnout 3, and here it's getting served every 60 seconds with a side of GET REKT!

Yep I've played this when it came out and still today. Explosions are beautiful, its like one of those moments "ok am I gonna get wrecked now" going through tunnels and shit. Great soundtrack, my personal fav is the result screen pops up music. But besides all that can we just appreciate the excellent driving of this wonderful individual. Who or wherever you are, you are a legend.

I always thought the groaning sound the needle tower makes when it falls over at 6:45 was kind of scary. Sounds like it's alive and in pain.

Idk why but I hear people screaming at 1:35 I believe that one is the loudest powerplay.

01:50 The dam collapse is *really* impressive. I love this game. Even after a decade, I'm still amazed playing it.

I love how over the top this game is Nuclear Reactor Meltdown is my favorite.

Can you imagine what this game would look like if it was remade for next Gen consoles and created by a studio with one of the best explosion engines (avalanche)

The train crashing at 5:21 and the dam collapsing at 1:50 are still my favourites

Kinda wish there was a game mode like this: Detonation Race. Every power play possible would activate randomly, except route changers which are always scripted to activate on certain laps. The higher the difficulty level is, the more power plays that activate, and on hard, all of them do as early as possible. That way I can feel like an AI racing against me.

That's what I think the game should have been. I've only played the demo back in the day and playing against an AI was boring. I had to try hard to get fun moments, and I think it's because the game lets players do the detonating, rather than having the player try to survive the level.

Honestly? The way I’ve been playing against AI recently is triggering powerplays at a time when they would be a major hazard to me as well. I wreck myself more often now, but I try to. Still, a game mode that I described would’ve still been cool. I thought that’s what Deadline was, but it’s not.

Yeah, Detonator exists, but it’s just you on the track. The game mode I described is just that, except with other cars and it’s a full race instead of just one lap (I suppose I should’ve specified that)

I mean, they did, but Disney unfortunately shut the studio down. There still exists some concept art and prototype builds for Split Second 2 on youtube.

This is the best racing game in the history of the videogame industry and whoever disagree actually never played this fckn masterpiece.

Imagine if this got a Season 2, i.e. a sequel with more diversity to its destruction: like multiple biomes, artificial weather altering for some spectacular powerplays, and even underground explosives.

In the canned sequel, you were supposed to fight against that same reality TV corporation airing all that races with even more EXPLOSIONS. Too bad Disney gave zero shits about standing out with this unique approach of racing and as always, everyone drooled over Forza Horizon with Need for Speed as they would dominate the racing genre even in 2024.

To think this game still has better destruction than games TWO CONSOLE GENERATIONS AHEAD OF IT. Like Battlefield 2042 vs Battlefield 4! Games were on something real different in the seventh generation. And I for one, miss it.

this game is an example of 2 things devs that took pride in what they were making and probably enjoyed every second of developing it. and 2 this is a game that should have been and needs to grace the next gen of consoles and PC graphics and tech. but i got this on PC and can still play it in 2024

I haven't played this game for 10 years, but i never changed my opinion. One of the best game i've ever played, no doubts. i still have this game on CD, but unfortunately it can't be installed, it says my key has expired and i have nothing to do. I consider buying this game once again , absolutely brilliant game so far. This video gives me huge dose of nostalgia, it reminds me Test Drive, FlatOut, Crashday times, sadly, its past..

Steam version might be the chance to revisit again also there is an unofficial console port version of the Quarry DLC at the Steam workshop which adds new maps and cars as a salt and pepper.

How 2012 was predicted to end

Someone needs to get their hands on the IP so we can get a remastered version for the new gen consoles. We got Need For Speed Hot Pursuit remastered, now we need Split Second.

Best racing I've ever played really glad they went to town on the PC verison the option to have high resolution 1080p and very high detail makes this game a head of its time still look good today. This game has a feel especially the music of a cross between James Bond and Gone in 60 seconds

This is still my favorite racing game. I recently downloaded a port of the DLC for PC and it's a lot of fun. :D

Black rock studio did an marvelous job with that game's performance, almost any non-gamer pc can run it, i used to play that game on an laptop that had 4 gb ram and the intel 4000

Fun fact about that power play, it actually has three stages. 1: The train crashes into the tower, knocking it over. 2: The tank rolls onto the track 3: It explodes Normally you’d only see the first two parts, and I didn’t even know the third part existed until an hour ago during a multiplayer race I’ve got a video, I’d just have to upload it

@@KingfishWatch An opponent needs to be a little far from it and you CANNOT use the shortcut on the hairpin. If you get the prompt, it's a Level 2 PP that will block the left half of the street.

@@yourlocalcashregister1123 wow thank you I will definitely try to activate the third stage. There are some missing powerplays in the video that I wish I could add. Maybe I can update later. One of them is a cutted powerplay that exist before the steam version I guess because I remember that activated in the pirate version where we were entering a long mall like building and screens hanging on the top was falling. You can see it from here: steamcommunity.com/app/297860/discussions/0/1777135944133202699/ Another one that I recently found and I wasn't aware that it exists is at the Construction Site track. When the crane falls with the third stage of the building collapse powerplay there is a secret shortcut leads to the top of the trainway under the exact same building. That was really shocking for me it's pretty easy to miss it with that speed I guess.
