A-MAZ-ING. I am not sure we knew back the 70s what a strange and beautiful jewel we were watching. They became more 'commercial' for sure, and still wrote great songs, and managed to keep a good amount of crackpot - but not as much crackpot as show here. I just love this really weird stuff.

Lovey Dovey Split Enz My house is sliding into the sea Skies are grey, since you've been away The chickens aren't laying eggs no more It can only mean you left me for sure But I still think of you when I'm alone How can I ever repay you for what you do to me I still think of you when I'm alone How can I ever repay you for what you do to me La do dah la do dah dah la do dah My trees are all turning brown The sun won't shine, now you're no longer mine The rats are crawlin' up me back It can only mean you're never coming back But I still, think of you when I'm alone Oh how could I ever repay you for what you do to me And I still, think of you when I'm alone Oh how could I ever repay you for what you do to me La do dah la do dah dah la do dah Wooh! My bed is leaning to one side You know I can't sleep now that I've lost my pride The flies are swarming in like bees I even have to share my clothes with fleas But I still, yeah think of you when, I'm alone How can I ever repay you for what you do to me And I still, yeah think of you when, I'm alone How can I ever repay you for what you do to me Come on! They’ve toured the US quite a few times between 1977 and 1982.. you guys never “got” them.. especially in the early days. There would be more people on stage than in the audience some nights and that’s where the incident happened which led Phil to leave the band in Atlanta..

I suppose it's the fact that a few of the band members (and I guess some of the fans) didn't want to re-record some of the tracks from Mental Notes (which as you know, was only released in Aus and NZ) might be relevant. Regardless, it's a great album. They both are.
