Spline Shaft Cut with End Mill and Rotary Table

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the first relatively complex item I've machined on my mill. I have an electric motor from a Curtis Club Car Precedent IQ golf cart that I want to use for my own electric vehicle. The golf cart's differential coupling was a spline shaft, so I decided to see if I could make my own spline shaft with just a mill, a rotary table, and a small (1/64") end mill. The answer, at least for my purposes, is "yes".

@MrAnimeGuru - Yeah, it was simple, just time-intensive since I couldn't do much of a cut with the tiny end mill. I use my rotary table for all sorts of things, and in combination with the DRO setup I added recently, it is a very powerful tool.

@partsproduction - I just made this for proof of concept -- aluminum is quick and easy. The version that drives the car is made from steel, works very well.

looks to be a nice fit to me. I did the exact same thing to see if I could make the "Shimano compatible" spline that's used to hold a gear cluster cassette on a rear bike wheel. It worked out really well and I now have the option of doing it for my final product.

Why would you make such a part of aluminum alloy?

hi there . thanks for the video . im not much of a expert on electric motors etc . im building a disc sander from a motor and would like to know about how to attach or deattach spline keys and arbors ( not sure if these are the correct terms ? ) . if you have any ideas that would be cool . thanks
