I picked this up to play with my 9 year old. It's one of our favorites to play together. I hope they bring expansion content to it!

We loved Splendor, but we haven’t played it since we got Marvel Splendor. I agree it is just more interesting overall. The last time we played, I won with only buying 9 cards total! Gotta get those 3rd tier cards quick!

Made me think of Trekking the World. In that one you are accumulating souvenirs (cubes of 4 colors), and when you are the first to get 2 of one color (I think) you get a King of the Hill type card (there are 4, one for each cube color). Through the game those cards move back and forth as players one up the card holder. These are worth significant points. Viscounts of the West Kingdom also has a card for most meeples in the third tier of the castle. This card is worth 5 points but it also adds 1 to your hand size (which starts at 3 and can grow to 5 with that card and another bonus). So in that game losing the card during play also reduces your hand size.

Dynamite Nurse has a mechanism very similar to the Avengers token, except it works in reverse. Dynamite Nurse is a deckbuilding game in which the players all run hospitals who are treating fantasy adventures that get injured while dungeon crawling. One's hospital has limited space, so patients in one's hospital worsen their condition each turn if not on one of two "beds" that the hospital has. Successfully treating patients earns points and clears out room for more patients in the hospital; patients who die inflict a points penalty on the player whose hospital the patient dies in. Players have the ability to transfer patients to or from their own hospital to another player's. The player who has currently killed the most patients gets the Dynamite Nurse card, which inflicts a serious points penalty upon the holder at the end of the game. There is a twist however. Some cards have added benefits if played by the current Dynamite Nurse, so there is an advantage to having the card during the game as long as one can get rid of it before the end. Does the points for the Avengers token count as three of the 16 necessary for winning? Can the game be prolonged if a player manages to take the token from the leader during the last turn if doing so would drop the leader's point total to less than 16? If so, Kemet has something similar in the form of temporary points that one has so long as one currenty controls the area that grants said points, so the game will be prolonged if taking the area away from the current controller drops that player's point below the number needed to end the game.

Yiieew! First comment. Had my first game of this a month ago :) I waited until the Marvel version came out to buy it as it was on my radar for a while. Hopefully I'll play again soon.

Longest Road in Catan is the same way as the Avenger tokens. There are files on BGG for hacking splendor base to be the same as Marvel...it would be nice if all the cards were unique in the base game, Im not sure why they went with the same art on multiple cards.

Agree with Catan's longest road. I think Tribune has a similar mechanism where you need more of a type or more power probably common to a lot of card set games.

@@brianflansburg8934 true, in "Innovation" he who holds the most of whatever item gets to "demand" the other players do something on their turn. My 6yr old son still requests Splendor when I ask what game he would like to play. Makes my heart sing for sure!

@@jameystegmaier defninitly Marvel Splendor ;) But mage knight works better for Star Trek in my mind. Away teams fit naturally with the missions. not truely a reskin, but some of the updated versions of catan like starfarers...I'll have to think for more...

Neat. Wasn't aware this existed. Splendor is a fine game but one where the theme felt dry and irrelevant to me. I can totally see this actually pushing me to purchase a copy. Oh and there are plenty of marvel villain groups, the most appropriate would potbelly be the Masters of Evil

I really like that you have to get a third tier card as a win condition. Having every colour is also cool and lends itself nicely to the theme. I don't like the Avengers token. I find it swings things too wildly between players.

No famous Marvel Villain team? What happened to Hyrda? Anyways, glad I stopped by. I assumed this was nothing more than a skin and I refuse to pay for a change of scenery if I'm still playing the same game.
