Funny how most of these Wha Happuns involve the publisher screwing over the developers by giving them impossible goals and/or forcing them to redo everything to follow the current trend, but here it's the other way around where the publisher told them to do one thing and the devs just blew them off and did something else. Honestly after seeing these clips I'm kinda interested in this game now, it sort of has that schlocky PS2 era jank that I miss.

Game is fun, and the death scenes and gore are pretty good. It's kinda funny when a monster chops off your arm, and you proceed to pick it up and beat it to death with your own severed arm. However it gets VERY repetitive by the end and the last boss was a disappointment.

The saddest part of it all was..when you played through the game you can see how much love the developers had for this franchise and wished to have done more with it. such a sad state of affairs that it went through such a development Hell. @@binkusbonkus Yes! It's very much worth playing through today. The games fun, the music's Brutal, the voice acting and one liners are cool and funny, the story and lore is interesting..the game holds up (most of the time just because I love it doesn't mean I'll ignore the faults) but overall it's worth playing..I have a blast playing ever single time and I'll always keep playing for as long as ps3's are available to the world. There are a number of reasons why it had a low score..some are legit reasons some are minor that I can ignore. For example a few of the legit reason is if you die or load a game your gonna wait probably a solid minute for it to start, another would be an extremely cut and rushed ending..as if it were finished only half way and leaves a major cliffhanger which always made me hope for a sequal. But minor reasons like for example like weird camera angles to me personally I don't even mind it..I mean you can move the camera in whatever direction you want most of the time for crying out loud..what more do people want? That's just me...you can read more on wiki or the video Matt posted but all in all in my personal opinion..the games a fun Blood gushed Metal enduced guilty pleasure and I'm never gonna stop playing it...it's in my top five for a reason because it's Good old fun...oh and as a bonus....in the Extras menu they have the original 3 Arcade Splatterhouse's installed just for giggles so good on that development team! 👍 Hope this long unneeded explanation answers your questions.

This whole thing is a really great example of how one manager can ruin things for a lot of people. I'm not opposed to weird Kronenberg artsy stuff, or strange body horror things, but ya gotta keep the client happy in matters of taste. It was important to keep the people sending the checks happy--especially if your only only other iron in the fire was some seedy guys like Brash. You save the passion projects for after you have enough money to feed people--which Namco Bandai could've easily given.

@@Dissenter It honestly works perfectly in my opinion, since the tough talking voice is The Mask, and not ACTUALLY Rick. You have the voice of a Murderous Psychopath warping the body of a genuinely noble person who has to come to grips of what that entity is turning him into. And this is not even me reading into things too much, it is actively in the dialogue between The Terror Mask and Rick Taylor.

Whoo boy, Jay Beard. How he assumed he could hide away the game he was making from the publisher that put him on the project in the first place is a mystery. He certainly got a lot of self-esteem to believe that he knew better than the veterans who made the franchise in the first place, I'll give him that. But that is more of a backhanded compliment towards his massive ego.

Beard would insist on adding the targeting system from their previous game, Mark Of Kri, in spite of being told numerous times that it wasn't the kind of thing Namco wanted out of the game, as well as repeatedly revising designs. They're really lucky that Namco threw them a bone and rehired most of them to finish the game after the studio fell apart. I definitely enjoy what I've seen of the reboot. I haven't played it myself, I am more of a classic Splatterhouse guy, but one thing I have to give the game is the voice of the Terror Mask, it's so menacing and has such a great look to it. While I prefer the classic Jason Voorhees look, I definitely enjoy this look. However the one place I feel this game fell short was the constant humor in the game. In moderation I feel this could work, especially because of how goofy the older games kind of seem in retrospect, but I would have definitely enjoyed a bit more of a serious game with just a hint of humor. Overall though it looks great, sure it has it's flaws but it's a game id definitely go and get

I didn't know a remake existed, and that's disappointing, because at the time of release I would have LOVED a game like this. Even now, I thoroughly enjoy the artwork, and voicework. Unfortunately, I can't find it on PC. And I'm not doing emulators. I don't have the patience. And I do disagree with their decision, or at least intent to make it a simple button masher successor. Because personally, a game like this with some challenge, and necessary skill on harder difficulties, oh man I would have loved. Still would.

Despite how horrendously unpolished this game is... I actually really like Splatterhouse 2010. It's quite a fun action horror game with some neat bosses, beautifully grotesque levels and stages, and interesting story, and some great character interaction between a smart ass and a dweeb as they fumble across space and time to save a girl from the end of the world. It's a great game to play on Halloween, along with Bloodborne, Resident Evil 1 and 4, Nightmare Creatures, Medievil, and Dead Space. That, and it comes with the original three games, making it the most complete collection of the series in one sitting. Even if you didn't like the base game, you can then just play Splatterhouse 1, 2, and 3 in their original splendor in the extra's menu after finishing your first runthrough. A nice little bonus for everyone, really.

The lords of Shadow series have an interesting lore, I honestly never played the games, but a Reboot was needed for the Castlevania series cause there's really nothing you can do to add to Dracula, and it was suffering with the "Sigma Virus" whereas Dracula is supposed to be a force to be reckon with, but with each game him being resurrected and killed over and over, Dracula became a joke. To the point that the Belmonts are not even nessesary to beat Dracula.

The first Lords of Shadow is still one of my favorite games. It looks gorgeus, the art of the menus is stunning , music is amazingly captivating; the linear progression and backtracking made it really cool too and the ending twist was really shocking to me at first. Although it has its problems (like insufferable one-liners from the bosses) it is a piece of art in my opinion.

I've always hoped this game might get a sequel, even now. It was rough around the edges and somewhat repetitive, but I still find myself going back to it, the story was as said surprisingly fleshed out with the Dr being a really well written character, the mask is such a damn fun character and it wore it's love for horror on it's sleeve so damn earnestly. It's a shame to hear it's development was so messy.

It was definitely a game made for the fans.

I'd love to see a 2.5D remake of this game, maybe pluck an indie developer or Wayforward or someone to head it up. To me at least, that is where Splatterhouse was the most fun, it being a side scroll just laced with atmosphere and leaving the imagination to fill in what was going on. It was cool they included some of the advice from the fan site, West Mansion in it. Some truly creepy stories are in their fanfiction area.

I was one of those people that followed this game's development, but I was worried early on, mainly because the developers seemed so focused on making the game EXTREME TO THE MAX, while completely losing sight of all the other aspects of the series. The tone, mood, atmosphere, suspense, etc. all seemed to be absent. It felt like a caricature of the previous games. After awhile, what little interest I had left went away from the extremely long wait. I never got to play it, so I'd like to hear from those that did. Was there more to it than steroids, testosterone, extreme gore, and generic, pounding metal music? The biggest compliment I ever hear this game get is that it comes with the other three main games on the disc, which doesn't exactly entice me to give it a shot.

Honestly, I really liked Splatterhouse 2010. Part of it was probably that I had seriously tempered my expectations because I knew what a clusterfuck the development had been, but I dug it, flaws and all. I loved the story (the decision to lean into Lovecraftian themes was a great one), the characters and the atmosphere enough to accept and push through the rough patches. And honestly, the original Splatterhouse games were nothing to write home about in the gameplay department. Those games thrived on their gory presentation and tone, so in that sense, Splatterhouse 2010 is a perfect successor. It's a shame that Namco seems to have taken its failure to heart so much, as I'd love to see a sequel to it.
