Spironolactone for acne?

Spironolactone is a medication that is often prescribed for women with acne. It works by blocking androgen receptors in the body, which are responsible for the production of oil in the skin. Reducing oil production can help prevent clogged pores and reduce the occurrence of acne.
Should you take it for your acne? A few things to consider:
1. It can take a few months to notice improvement when you start taking spironolactone. This is the same amount of time it takes to address the root causes of acne and heal acne permanently, from the inside out.
2. High Potassium Levels: Spironolactone can cause an increase in potassium levels in the blood, which can lead to symptoms of weakness, fatigue and irregular heart rhythms.
3. Menstrual Irregularities: Spironolactone can cause changes in the menstrual cycle, including missed periods and irregular bleeding
4. Decreased blood pressure: If you have low blood pressure, spironolactone could decrease your blood pressure and triggers symptoms such as dizziness, light-headedness, sleepiness, fainting and confusion.
5. When you stop taking spironolactone, your acne can come back even worse.
My expert opinion: Medications mask the real cause of acne, which means that acne can come back even worse when it is stopped. Instead, figure out the root cause of your acne, which is usually a chronic gut infection, poor digestion, poor drainage and detoxification, poor diet, stress and hormonal imbalances.
