Great vid Julia! I'm not sure how your schedule works with uploads and picking different artists/bands... But if you ever decide to listen to another Spiritbox piece of music then you legit have to do The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound. It's regarded as one of their best works ever. 3 parts totalling 16 minutes and very worth it. With even more complexity in the vocals and instrumentals involved. Recorded in 2019 off of their EP in 2017. You are the type of person to actually grasp the emotion in songs and I think this would be a great one for you. Great work! See ya later!

It shows how good the singer is if a one take performance with minimal effects can still hold up to a studio version, especially in this genre. I would say in this specific case the studio version is still sounds overall better and resonates more where as Tatiana from Jinjer one take performance of Judgement & Punishment I much prefer to the studio version. It's so good on it's own and wasn't a fan of certain mixing and harmony choices and layering in the studio version.

If you want to binge react to Spiritbox, do NOT react to the Eternal Blue album (first), but watch the 16-minute full band studio live performance of "The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound", which is an incredible early masterpiece from their first 3 connected songs of their first EP. It is an outstanding experience to watch. I am sure many here would agree to that. Already all facettes of her voice and the Spiritbox concept were there right from the start. A beautiful Spiritbox symphony. Warm and sparkling.

Completely agree with you, when hearing the lp version we would assume there is some manipulation on that final part, but this live version leaves no doubt, Courtney is an alien. I'm glad you did the one-take for the reaction to this track because that vocal ending in the last chorus you love so much was added in during rehearsal for live shows- the album version is just cleans for that whole chorus. Saw them live a couple months back and Courtney performs the song as in this one-take and it was absolutely electric.

If noone mentioned this yet, this is false cord screaming (highs, lows, and everything in between). Most of the time you can tell apart false fold action from fry by the consistency of the tone of the scream. Fry screaming will sound smoother because the mechanism is smaller (e.g. Will Ramos mostly does fry); False fold screams will (most of the time) sound more "breaky" and "gritty" (you will hear alternation of tone, like in the screams that Cortney does, you can hear distinctly moments of disconnection of the false folds, where her falsetto comes through, and moments of connection, making the tone sound nicely inconsistent)

You are totally right, she does allow some pitch from true folds in with her fry screams towards the end! A very un common technique but one used by Sam Carter (vocalist of a band called architects) extremely often, hard technique to use but when done correctly it sounds amazing with the backing track! Absolutely love this reaction, keep em coming❤️

It's a super rare talent to be able to pull off that scream to clean and back so effortlessly. She's a true talent.

I know this was 3 months ago, but watched it a few times. She doesn’t get as much attention as she should, but the physical change at demand without sound is clear and amazing. Courtney is damn talented

Yup. I'm not naturally one for screaming arbitrarily, but you nailed why I love screaming in metal. It packs a punch emotionally and definitely ups the hype and impact of the music

My first Spiritbox experience; I hear a lot of Dido in Courtney's clean vocals, which I'm a big fan of. Very impressive performer!

Love the video! Saw spirit box live last year and live she is just as powerful and mindshatering as she is recorded🤯. On the note that you pointed out about pitch in scream is very interesting and I think I've seen in before in TOOL as well. Have you checked them out? Keep up the amazing content😊😊

Another great reaction, as always! As to your commentary about the scream following the melody - go give 'to the hellfire' another listen. The chorus (when he screams 'azrael, release me from this mortal shell') does this somewhat as well
