Spinner Dolphins Freedive
Spinner Dolphin Freedive: HD Video taken with a Canon HF S10 camera and Light and Motion's Bluefin housing. 1920x1080. Great uw microphone. Listen to how quiet the pod is in deeper water from 0:05 through 0:15 ... and then how vocal the playful dolphins are..for ex at 0:50
Good leaf game sequence at 1:06 forward. From Beak, to pectoral fin, to tail, then back to me....and another pickup on a return pass at 1:27. Playful creatures!
It seems the dolphins play with leafs in a fashion similar to humans playing ball. They'll catch the leaf in the beak or on their pectoral fin or tail.
Don't have editing software yet so...in the meantime...enjoy a few of the raw clips.

Thanks for the beautiful post!!! And Mahalo for not mentioning the location, to protect our nocturnal friends from the onslaught of tourists who chase them mercilessly, when they are trying to sleep. Great capture of playful behavior!
Yeah...that's the feeling when you're in the water with them...WOW. Quite amazing creatures.
Jim, watched this agin ....... one of the all time great dolphin videos. B
Thx for stopping by...glad you enjoyed it.
nice! what a fun adventure! :) *swimming with the dolphins is truly one of the best things ever!!* i've been fortunate to have had the opportunity, as well (video on my channel)! thanks for sharing this! awesome stuff!
So relaxing to watch. Thank you

i hope you get to! you will be SOOOOO glad you did! :)
Ce adorabili sunt.
@scorch048 Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, All video on this site was taken while freediving. Just prefer it to scuba.
Thx for that. I see they have a 30day trail. Will check it out.
@plopalotay It is a leaf. The dolphins play with it much as a dog might play with a ball. The will pick it up on their pectoral fin...pass it to their tail. Drop it, pick it up...
Awww I love dolphins THANK U
The UW mic has a plug in connection to the camera within the housing. Very easy set up. The red flip filter is great...however much of this vid was taken freediving between 0 and 45 feet. 20ft and below the red is great but about that too red especially if pointing toward surface. So with freediving up and down, I erred on side of not using the filter so much. I do have some clips with the filter down and it does improve the image at depth. Thx. I hv to check the settings on other q
@trainguyONR This camera is great for a consumer camcorder. The mic with my UW housing is great. As far as a stand alone mic, its seems good.
@matthooverdotcom Nice vid. Yes....Many shots I am with them...as you have swam with them, you know the difference in their behavior from being chased or letting a person engage. Sometimes a Fine line...I am sure I crossed it from time to time, but they give you a good indication if you're annoying them. I have also been out and watched them chased to the point of leaving a bay to find another quiet place to rest. My thought is engage but gently.

agreed -- like most animals, if you are annoying or unwanted, the signs are there! sometimes quite obviously! being gentle & respectful is always the best path! :)
I wish I was one of them :'D
wonderful!!! thanks for posting
Is best that tourists find pods at random.
Cool video! I'm looking to buy a new camcorder, how do you like the audio on this one?
Wow
This is one of the best videos I have seen. Well done. You really don;t seem to be disturbing them much, they are playful and act natural. Where was the video taken?

Thanks. This was taken in Hawaii. The dolphins were engaged and playful. Always a better experience when they choose to interact...pointless to chase them and it disturbs their rest. It was a great day out there and a good leaf game session.

they can swim SO fast! if they don't want to be around, then >poof< they are gone! that being said, if you are crowding them and surrounding them, thrashing around,, etc. and cause them to leave... then you've definitely crossed the line of harassment. but they do honestly seem to enjoy interaction (gentle & respectful!) and even seek it out, sometimes. when resting, they seem to usually go deeper down, but even so... they can outpace any of us easily, even when resting! it is crazy to think how much exertion it can take to swim with them and yet it is like they are barely even moving a muscle to motor thru the water! amazing stuff! i'm a huge fan! :)
i havnt seen the ocean before...........
Que lindo
Would it be possible for me to use this footage? :) If so I will credit you
@pobuzz1 Thx Mo. Hope all is well with you.
@mixta29 sometimes it is better to dive without the camera...and enjoy the experience, rather than being focused on getting the shot. Maui. I understand that the DNLR is fining people for swimming with dolphins on that Island now...so be careful.
can I use this video on my site - to show people about the spinner dolphins Michael
I have been looking at editing software. Any recommendations?
you can't be safer from sharks than swimming right by dolphins side

wtf :D
Man can I use this footage for a new age music video I'm editing???
I stopped swimming with Dolphins for almost 10 yrs...too many kayaks and people chasing...the energy was ugly...and as you point out...the pod is resting. Hopefully those who seek out this experience will be respectful.
@pobuzz1 thx mo.
That has been my experience but I am not an expert.

+Freedive101 this is helpful for me because I'm studying sea animals in school I picked the spinner dolphin. now I know how they act under water and around humans
@natali650130 Hawaii...but I understand that the DLNR is now giving out fines for swimming with dolphins there....too many people are chasing them...they're trying to rest...so you have to just engage but let them come to you.
@44johnconnor Je vous remercie.
