SpinDrifting mid-summer walleyes out of the weeds

Спорт

There’s nothing new about pulling ‘crawlers thru the weeds for walleyes - always have and always will catch 'em - but here’s a few tweaks to help get your bait past some of those little bluegills and right in a walleye’s face. Great way to catch pressured walleyes RIGHT NOW on "average" lakes that might be right in your backyard, and cover a bit of water (at 1 mph) until you land on a pod.
Thx much for watching!

    GREAT VIDEO Brett!!! All the details you laid out in this vid have made it super easy to understand and actually go out and get the Walleye's in the weeds in the middle of. Summer or for most of the year as the gentleman you had with you explained he seemed like a really good fisherman and teacher like yourself. I have seen some other videos from different people similar to this in the past but you really put it all together, simplified it, and that tungsten weight trick wow!!! I've been really wanting to know how to do this correctly for a while now & I feel very confident about it now after watching your video. Thanks man! also very enjoyable 👍

    A plastic crawler on a double hook harness works well in the weeds too and gives it that spin. Gotta rig it so it has a bend in it to get it to spin.

    I fish these behind bottom bouncers a lot, but we call it the slow death rig. Notice even in this video how easily the fish come off those hooks. The barbs are quite small (all brands), which probably has something to do with the spin. But the down side is they come out easier than might be used to. Great technique. Just have to be mindful of that.

    Any idea about how deep it is? Usually can’t go wrong with some kind of jig and paddletail. You’re going to lose a bunch of them in the rocks, but they always catch fish. Depending on how deep it roughly is, I also like throwing Husky Jerks or Shad Raps.

    @@TargetWalleye Thanks for the info! The depths can be anywhere from 3 feet to 15 feet. It’s down here in Iowa and it’s those typical dams the CCC built during the New Deal in the 30’s on the rivers. Just about every town/city on a river has one and the Walleye love hanging out under there.

    Brett, I've been loving this technique but always end up with my tungsten wrapping around my braid into a mess above the bead and swivel. The spindrift has a swivel so I don't think it's line twist, but I can't understand why it keeps doing it. Any suggestions to remedy?

    It varies a bit, but typically mid-depth thru the weeds. I would do a slight S-troll at 1mph instead of trolling in a straight line...that's the easiest way to figure out if they want it slower and lower in the water column, or slightly faster and higher up.

  • @TargetWalleye

    @TargetWalleye

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! The bullet weights are designed to slide right thru the weeds, so they work GREAT for running rigs up shallow like this. Can absolutely run the same rig on a bottom-bouncer if it's a rocky/hard bottom, or if you're running this rig on the bottom edge of the weeds where they taper off.

    @@ol2533 you got it! Bullet-style weights work great in the weeds, but are more likely to snag up in ricks because they can fall right thru into cracks and crevices. Bottom-bouncers have that long wire that keeps does a better job of keeping the presentation up and out of the snags...but they snag way more weeds and junk. Good luck!

    Oh you’ll snag some weeds, but it comes thru better than you’d think. And the 832 braid mainline cuts ‘em pretty good - if you feel the rod tip start to load up you can usually pop it out. I’m not pulling this through super thick weed mats or clingy junk, but instead big broad leaf cabbage and coontail mixes. You gotta go in and get ‘em where they live!

    I appreciate the comment, but your delivery was rather aggressive 🙄. I agree that fish was out of the water much longer than it needed to be…was approximately 1 minute total which definitely feels like 27 minutes while watching the video. But it did power off without a hitch. And in Jason’s defense he was planning on keeping a couple smaller ones that day, pretty sure that one included, but I probably caught him off guard when I said I wasn’t keeping any cuz no one lets 14-18” walleyes go around here 😂. Thanks for watching and providing feedback.
