Spiderman Faceshell Cheap and Easy using EVA Foam

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey Apprenti-Squad! In today's video, I'm going to show how to make a Cheap #SpiderMan Face-Shell out of #EVAFoam that looks great but won't break the bank! If you have ever tried to cosplay Spiderman you have probably realized that your face doesn't have the same shape under a spiderman mask as his does. To achieve this look you have to use a spiderman faceshell that goes under your mask and helps create the spiderman head shape and silhouette.
If you google spiderman faceshells you will see many options and a variety of materials but they seem to start around $50 bucks and go up from there. If you want a nice one from TJackFX or Zentai Zone you can even end up spending up to $120 or more. I didn't want to pay these prices so I decided to figure out how to make my own spiderman faceshell out of EVA foam cheap and easy so that I could look legit in my spiderman cosplay but still have some money in my pockets.
My faceshell worked better than I even imagined and so I wanted to share with you how I did it and I made my pattern available on my website to help you save time too!
This mask comes out to around $9 in actual cost.
Here's the cost breakdown:
(Pack of 7) 4mm WTF EVA foam sheets - $37.77
It only takes one sheet to make - $37.77 divided by 7 = $5.40
Add the cost of my pattern to make life easy - $3.99
$5.40 + $3.99 = $9.39
Please let me know if you have any questions down in the Comments and I am happy to help you out! :)

    Another even cheaper and easier alternate is using a face mask (preferably a dust mask with a stiffer shape) to smooth out your features. It wont give you the best look and this video is a great super cheap option but if you're in a time crunch i definitely recommend :)

    I'm so bummed out. I have the day off so planned on making this for my new spidey suit, ready for a twitch stream on the weekend; but the craft place I went to didn't have EVA foam or anything close (and there doesn't seem to be any in the city either), so i've had to buy this really flexible thinner foam sheets that probably won't hold shape, and no time to get a quick online order delivered :( I'm thinking making I can get away with doing it with the card and tape, then add a layer of the foam (2.5mm) over it to smooth it out? Wish me luck lol

    Nicely done as always. I appreciate the tip about heating before shaping. Are there any differences we need to account for when applying contact cement to WTF vs how it’s normally done on traditional EVA foam (I.e. apply thin layer, wait until slightly tacky, then press together)?

  • @CosplayApprentice

    @CosplayApprentice

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks!!!! The heating to glue together is the biggest tip by far. I haven't tested it at length but I think doing two thin coats of contact cement may help as well. Same rules otherwise, apply thin layer, wait till it doesn't come off on your finger and press together. After I line up the seams and press together I like to press them together extra hard to try and get as tight of bond as possible. :). Hopefully that all made sense :)

    I’m still confused with how you stuck the two halves together, when I first did it, mine were curving away from each other and I couldn’t get it to work, even with a heat gun

  • @CosplayApprentice

    @CosplayApprentice

    9 ай бұрын

    You’ll want to make sure your cuts that you’ll be gluing together are as straight/square as possible. Then I find that one you put the glue on the edges of both sides, if you heat up the foam, both sides of each piece of foam and then stick it together while it’s hot then it will take its shape better as you stick it together. The pieces will want to pull away from each other because we are adding a curve into them as it is gluing together. So just start at one end of the seam and stick little sections of it together as you work your way up the seam. Hope that helps a little, it’s hard to explain it in only words :)
