Ya Boi I mean he wasn’t really raped. It was a service transaction, PK provides a child with Herra, and Herra becomes on of the seals for the hollow knight in return.

I have some theories as what happened to the father. 1. Died from the fire as shown in the picture of him and the mother. The fire could have been started by the guy in the letter breaking free of her webs. I do not see the father to had caused the fire because in the final good ending, she allowed Arachne to go to search for her true love sort of indicates that the marriage was overall positive. Further evidence was shown in the diary entries. 2. Some unknown cause of death and that the fire was started by one of Arachne's suitors trying to break free of the webs, it makes sense as to why there was no reaction when she read the letter.

I was honestly expecting something like a Yandere end, so surprised it didn't go there. She mentions only feeling hungry again after Arachne was born and the father started turning all his love to her instead of the mother. I wonder if it still might sorta be a Yandere vibe and she loves Arachne so much because Arachne is technically like a symbol of their love/connection, a child born from the two of them

_My Porkchop_ Kinda cute... like calling a girl 'cookie'. I think Arachne & her mother were actually spider people, so the metaphorical web/black widow were also fact. That one piece of lore didn't quite fit with the true ending tho but is founded on the mother feeling "full" with the father's love - but when Arachne was born, he "poured all his love into her". The mother then felt empty inside & maybe that's when her hunger drove her to eat him & show her true spider self. All the other victims hanging were guys she caught for Arachne - like potential arranged marriage partners. But Arachne wanted to find her own - so understanding real love allowed her to leave. There were two things I didn't understand with lore. The fire thing with the picture was confusing bc there was no other evidence of fire. The second thing was the use of white vinegar as a 'magic' potion - vinegar & water usually repel spiders or can kill them but I guess it makes sense to make a scissors strong enough to cut the ties that bind. It was nice to see an old-fashioned kind of rpgmaker game with keys everywhere, good story with different endings, & cute art with not _too much_ horror .

@@redrasegarden Maybe... it's reall hard to know what the story is - there's no note about the family being attacked tho, but it's a good guess. I'm still not sure what happened to the father. Did the mother eat him? Did he just die of natural causes? Did he die in a fire -but why was just that picture burnt? I'm sure the game developer has a logical explanation, but we will just have to keep guessing!! :)

I think the whole she felt hungry again was because she wasn't her husband's full source of attention when Arachne was born so she got jealous, I don't think she got to eat the husband he probably died in a fire via the picture idk but just a guess.

@@AlmaHeartfire Yes that's exactly what I said in my comment! :) The game says he "poured his love" into their daughter, so while the mother was not jealous of Arachne, she became 'empty'. Agan I'll say that there is no evidence he died in a fire. The evidence is that somehow the picture was burned which has another potential explanation: perhaps the mother did that out of a sense of loss after she ate him, the same as you burn old mementos to erase memories & ease heartbreak. Then, like many people, snuffed out the flame, realizing she wanted to keep the picture. But that's just another conjecture of how part of a picture was burned.

Not all black widows eat their males though. In my interpretation of the story, the spiders have these cravings for devouring people. At some point, the females look for a mate, and they can actually truly love him, but that doesn't mean the cravings would stop. I think what stops the cravings is the love the spouse returns. In certain cases, male black widow spiders give offerings to the females before mating. These males have a higher chance of not being eaten after mating (though a male still can be spared even without the gift, or killed with). I'd say the greatest the love - the gift - of the spouse is, the more the cravings of the female spider disappear, in this story. So, Arachne's mother loved her spouse a lot, but when the baby was born, the father gave only half of his love to his partner, the other half going to the kid. With less love recieved from her spouse, the poor spider had her cravings come back, and she ended up devouring her beloved. I guess these love stories CAN end well with females with lesser cravings and/or partners who somehow manage to still give just as much love to their spouse once they had children than before. I'm sure it's possible.

Female black widows don’t just kill other spiders when they see them. They spend a lot of their energy making their webs, they don’t look the best but it does it’s job. When a male black widow comes across a female, he essentially destroys her web and eats whatever food was already left to get her attention. If she doesn’t immediately kill him and they actually end up mating, him offering himself as tribute gives her the energy to rebuild the web he so selfishly destroyed. Like praying mantises tho the male can get away with his life or without mating at all. If that happens, the female black widow is just left with a tattered house and a broken fridge until she makes a new one

I wonder if there is an option where you dont touch any blood and go to the cellar, would you be able to reject mother invitation for you to eat the rest of the suitor? As for the father, I was thinking if the mother eat the father. After all, her craving stops when the father loves her but when their child was born, the father transfer all his love to the child thus the mother craving came back. This is not to mean that mother didn't like the child as the mother still love the child

Yeah I thought so too, her craving only comes back after his love goes towards Arachne, so her mother doesn't have all of his unconditional love anymore, and only then does she actually eat him. But before that she was totally full, no need to eat him.

So basically a documentary about a spider milf and and best girl spider.

Default MV/VX assets are something of a cardinal sin I feel. They're immediately recognizable and pretty ugly tbh XP was the last rpg maker to come packaged with solid spritesheets by default IMHO

@@lovofofo Yeahhh, plus if you do outdoor maps they're so... Blocky. And YEAH I love XP's default tilesets they're much less muddier and less blocky at that. The only thing I don't really like about it is that random tone of purple that's in almost every asset, but that's an easy fix with the right program.

I like to think our little spider’s girl fate will lead to a happier ending with her lover. I mean.. would she be half spider girl? Maybe that lessens the hunger she’d feel as compared to her mother.

Interestingly, the "red string of fate" thing isn't _just_ a spider reference. It's a symbolic image for true love in Japan, IIRC, with the idea that there's an invisible red string connecting you to the person meant for you. Also, Spidermom is _adorable_ .

Hard to say what happened to the father not enough clues. Yes, It's possible he died in a fire. Kind of random how his picture was burned. But the journal pages kinda confirms the mother does what a widow does when it comes to mates though she probably regrets not being able to fight her cravings. It certainly could have been longer think the mother should have showed up more in the story. It's hard to get an idea of the family dynamic. Maybe there could have been an intro scene of her mother introducing a suitor to arachne or perhaps a letter or pictures regarding suitors for arachne.

Love the daughter's and mother's designs once they show their spider nature, it looked pretty cool. While I would be happy to be wrong, I am interpreting this as the father was killed by the mother, the last few journal updates made it sound like she grew jealous of the father showing their daughter more affection. Perhaps she burned that part of the photo so she wouldn't have to look at her guilt every day. Again, I am happy to be wrong if the father did die in an accident or something.

10:06 uh isnt the story of arachne, the first spider. That of a girl who boasted of being better then the gods at weaving and was then challenged by athena to a weaving contest. Where athena made a tapestry showing how great and mighty the gods were, and arachne made one showing many of their flaws. In the story I know arachne won the contest with that and as an act of cruel revenge for being humiliated, athena turned arachne into the first spider. Atleast that's the story I know about, I could be wrong but I figured it wouldnt hurt to type this out for everyone to see

Honestly that like mother, like daughter ending was oddly wholesome. In a creepy, monstrous way. Still cute tho. Same for the true ending.

In the true end, she undestand why ther mother is felling empty, so i guess she get the fact that if you love someone, don't eat it or you will fell empty the rest of your life...so i guess she undestand the true maining of "love", so the choosen one will live... I think

This is creepy, cute and wholesome all in one... I was getting a little close to tearing up at the end.

Arachne stems from greek myths, where a maiden named Arachne was an excellent weaver and claimed to be better than the goddess Athena. There was a weaving contest and it is unclear who won, but some shit went down that Athena beat her up and when she tried to hang herself, Athena turned Arachne into the first spider (and immortal, to prolong her suffering), so her and her children could weave for all of eternity. Aaaaand i just realized it states that in the game lol.

Manly's voice is so tought that he managed to turn a child's song into a scary melody, i love this guy.

I think it's the complete opposite, in that true love completely kills their appetite for humans. That's why the mother keeps bringing her spouses, trying to get her to feel the same, however the husband died in a fire, so she eats whoever the daughter doesn't feel anything towards.

I always listen to manly's videos because his voice is so monotone in such a calming way

True ending is really cute and heartwarming, I needed this today.

3:36 - I'm reminded of Al Murray's stand up comedy bit about the itsy bitsy spider. Truly an inspiration for the kids.

These RPG Maker playthroughs make me quite happy.

My theory is that maybe it was one of the suitors Arachne’s mom tried to hook Arachne up with, started the fire maybe? And killed the father in the process trying to protect them, so her mom started full blown eating the suitors for not being into her daughter in the end so the rumors of spider people won’t spread as much along with it helps satisfy her mom’s cravings. Arachne being half spider, she can control the cravings much better, but she can become just like her mom if given enough push hence the smell of blood. Her mom being too distracted grabbing all these suitors made her spend less time with Arachne and made her feel unloved for a little while till she reads the journal and understands what’s up a lot better and tells her mom she loves her and that she needs to find her true love on her own and her mother accepted that as long as Arachne still loves her, then her mom will be fine in the end. Family love can also satisfy cravings it appears.

As much as it is a short story, I really appreciated the work of the developers of this game, the story is very engaging and throughout it makes you curious about what will happen. I just get upset that they didn't specify what happened to some of the characters, I wonder what the real relationship was between Arachne's mother and her father, because apparently they portrayed their relationship as healthy, being a family ' 'almost normal' ', but it is strange to think what was the cause of his death / disappearance, I think it was not enough for the game to leave only a burnt photo in order to identify something for that reason, this lack of conception makes several people at first sight, end up considering that her mother just ate her own husband, after all they are black widows, but nothing can be said. Honestly, this game was really beautiful.

Something interesting I saw was how at 19:48 the text changed from the diaries main text to Arachne’s thought text/inspection text. This means that maybe instead of the wife feeling hungry, or having butterflies in their stomach, it was Arachne feeling that way. Learning about your parents and how they met, especially with one almost eating he other can be quite scary and confusing. And hungry could have a variety of meanings. She could be hungry because of anxiety or worry, she also could be hungry not for food, but maybe for love? Thing is, her mother found her lover by being hungry looking for food, so it also could mean they find their lover while searching for food/ through hunting them. Maybe I am just being weird, just thought it was suspicious and interesting how the text so suddenly changed. Maybe I just the good ending to be more wholesome. Edit: also the other type of text is mainly used for story, there is no text box except for black, so it seems it is meant to not convey Arachne’s inspection/thoughts and more about the background information and what is being read by Arachne.
