Man if there's one consistent thing about MCU Peter is that he will always save the civilians if they are in danger. Best homecoming scene is when hes trapped under the rubble - when he learns his lesson of HE is Spiderman, Not the suit. Tony says it best 'if youre nothing without the suit, then you shouldnt have it' then he lifts the rubble. Homecoming and Far from Home play off eachother really well with Peters lowest point happening at the end of homecoming. He decided the geound is better because all he has is Tonys shadow and needs to make a name for himself. Far from home ends swinging through new york in his own suit with a hard forged identity, grown out of tomys shadow. Looking forward to 3

In the comics, Spider-Man at the age of 15 was not actually as equipped at being a superhero as a regular teenager. Peter was an impressively self-reliant kid, he'd still struggle to juggle both lives, but he was definitely above average and impressive when it came to leading his double life. In the MCU, they've made Spider-Man fit their universe's vision as logically as possible - He's under the guiding hand of an adult superhero mentor - Iron Man, who has given him an assortment of gadgets, and he truly is a teenage superhero (to differentiate him from the adult superheroes) - He looks forward to the superhero work to have fun, and he makes mistakes constantly. I think changes can be made to a character as long as the core essential elements of the character remain intact - This Peter Parker is still Peter Parker I think. He has a firm sense of responsibility, is hard on himself, and struggles to balance his personal and superhero life (moreso than usual here). Furthermore, the changes to best fit the MCU really do make complete sense, and I'm fine with them. I hope Peter grows into classic Spidey over the films, regarding both costume (no gadgets) and maturity. I think these are safe assumptions.

Ah, my dear friend. Spidey in the comics does make various gadgets, so saying no gadgets is a bit of a stretch. During the Parker industries saga, he customizes his web-shooters to hold various different types of web, puts AI, tech, and armor into his suit, and builds himself a car. Oh, and in some of the other comics (doubt this is canon these were like kiddie comics I used to read.) He built spider-tracers to track down some of his enemies. In conclusion. Spider-man uses gadgets.

I think Spider-Man movies in general are really good at giving us scenes like this, because if there's anything that's central to the character, it's that he's an every man superhero. Sure, he has amazing powers, but he's still a nerdy guy who just wants to do good at the end of the day. Spider-Man 2 does a great job with this type of scene as well, where Peter, with no powers at all, rushes into a burning building and saves a little girl, because it's the right thing to do. He makes the sacrifices he has to make, to make sure people stay safe, because other people matter more than he does. The needs of the many over the needs of the few, or the one. The scene from Amazing Spider-Man 1 with the kid on the bridge, or the scene in Amazing Spider-Man 2 where he defends that nerdy kid and helps rebuild his model, are both great examples of grounding him and him helping ordinary people without there needing to be a big bad guy anywhere around as well.

You're absolutely right. It shows that Peter still has an innocent/pure morality about him. And I think that comes across more in the MCU Spideys because Holland was actually the right age for the part when cast, and he still looks like a teenager even now in his 20s.

KansavProductions It’s all there. It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t also erase Ben as a whole and not explain exactly why Peter chose to be Spidey. Plus, it is downright embarrassing to see Jon Favreau, the first two Iron Man movies’ director, essentially pass the torch to Peter and tell him to be his “own” hero in that emotional scene in FFH so the MCU can simply deny the whole “Spidey is Tony Stark Jr.” narrative. Even tho that scene would’ve been far more effective if it was Aunt May who did it bc, you know, she’s his only family? And it would’ve compensated her lack of importance in the first movie?

All that just after happy makes fun of the spider sense, the only thing left peter can call his own, does he even make his own web fluid anymore or did stark steal that from him too? The worst part imo is the fact that Tony has taken so much of Peter's agency and identity and hasn't gotten shit for it in universe. That's even more disrespectful to iron man than it is to spider-man because the comics have people build suits for him all the time and peter occasionally acts as an avenger. But peter and the avengers from the comics would _never_ let Tony get away with taking over someone's identity, even in death.

Though by the time of Iron Man 3 Tony really wasn't that kind of hero anymore. The whole Black Sabbath- AC/DC style of music represented his character as it was in phase 1. Yes, he was a hero but he was still first and formost that genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist we saw him to be in his first ever half hour of screen time. During Avengers the music used for Tony shifts however. While at first it still gives that same old music we associate him with, as we get into the 3rd act, things change. During his suit up and especially during his self sacrifice there is a stark (no pun intended) shift to a much more heroic theme. Even during his suit ups in Iron Man (2) while he has an actual theme playing it still has that same attitude behind it as all the rock songs which played before and after. Then in Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron his theme goes full blown superhero. No more of playboy who did the superhero schtick as a side thing almost. His experiences in Avengers changed him. His almost obsession-like behavior to be prepared for any dangerous situation he'd have to save someone from results in countless sleepless nights. He no longer has in mind how the company is doing at all. Add to that his realization that the suit isn't the hero but he is with or without a suit of armor that *he* is Iron Man, the movie score also further underlines that going into the credits with a full blown comic book-y superhero theme blasting through the speakers. We hear the hero theme (the exact same one) once again in AoU and besides that he always has the backing of a heroic theme. And that continues throughout the rest of the MCU until his sad demise at the hands or rather snap of the Infinity Gauntlet.

Having him grow and move away from the kind of person who'd have AC/DC and stuff like that as their theme song would completely clash with itself, if "Iron Man" still played every time he made an entrance. You can say "But I want a consistent theme" all you want, noone is stopping you, but that doesn't change the fact that themes have to fit the character. I mean you wouldn't slap Cap's theme from The First Avenger onto Tony at any point in the MCU, not just because it's Cap's them but mainly because it doesn't fit the character of Tony Stark and isn't representative of him. Consistency of themes throughout several movies is much less important than accuracy to the character.

@@TheEAK86 But that still wouldn't be representative of the man Tony had become by that point. To not use AC/DC and Black Sabbath and all that anymore was a very deliberate choice because as Tony said at the start of Iron Man 3 "I said goodbye to the party life, today I am a different man". Just changing up the previous themes slightly would not be reflective of Tony's story. Idk what's so hard to understand about this.

After 8 years I finally am told why I didn’t like TASM as much as the Raimi films. It’s always been the selflessness of Tobey’s Spider-Man, always sacrificing himself to save complete strangers. Fighting the bad guy is cool, but letting the bad guy walk away in order to save dozens or even just one person gives the audience such a more fulfilling experience. That’s what must make the train scene so great, apart from the music and visuals.

One thing I like about Far From Home is that it was consistent in this aspect. Almost every action scene is all about saving people. Peter is out there preventing buildings from falling on people, and saving his friends, while Mysterio does all the "fighting". Fake Nick Fury berates Peter for not being as much of a badass as Mysterio, fighting the bigger threats, being the Avenger everyone wants him to be. But when Mysterio is revealed to be fake, you realize that Peter is the one doing all the real work. Peter is saving the people Mysterio is putting in danger. He may not be Iron Man, he may not be able to fight bigger baddies, but he ain't useless, he does something most of the Avengers ignore, he looks out for the little guy. When the Avengers are fighting the next big baddie, you can count on your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to save the people from all the chaos.

Something I never understood is when people say that they should have used a Spider-Man who'd been at it for years already. How would that have worked in the MCU? A superhero operating in Queens and Manhattan for years and just doing nothing every time an Avengers-level threat comes around? This way works way better, and we get to use Spider-Man as our proxy into the universe; he is an everyman!

Okay now that I saw this, I’m now thinking about the fact that in Civil War, EVERYONE (except Spider-Man) failed. They were too focused on fighting each other that they forgot about their priority: saving people. It’s like that Breaking Bad moment, “Everything I do, I do for my family.” Somewhere along the way, Walter White cared less about his family and more about his empire. I think that’s part of the reason why Captain America leaves the shield after fighting Iron Man. It’s like he realized that he lost his way and so he spends the next year or so trying to make things right by keeping tabs on the Avengers and saving people until Infinity War.

Spiderman Homecoming truly was a breath of fresh air after the abysmal Amazing Spiderman movies with Andrew Garfield. There are three aspects of the MCU Spiderman costume that really stood out to me. First is the camera shutter effect that Spider-Man’s eyes have on his mask. This allows Spidey to emote while in costume which has never been done before in a live action film. Second is the fact that this Spiderman wears his web Shooters and utility belt on the outside of his suit which allows him to easily access his web cartridges from his belt enabling him to load his web shooters much easier. Last but certainly not least is this live action iteration of Spiderman has the classic comic book webbed armpits. Having the added ability to glide through the air like a squirrel suit gives Spiderman another helpful mode of travel especially when he’s very high up or too far away from being able to swing from anything near by. Personally I love what Marvel has done with the MCU Spiderman. Not only does Tom Holland play the role with all the character traits and attributes that we’ve all come to love but he’s also the youngest actor to play the role which means he has the ability to really grow into the character and play Him for a long time. I would love to see the MCU Spiderman naturally grow into adulthood giving us a very adult Spiderman in the future. This opens up so many possibilities to take the character in and Tom Holland is just perfect for that.

Bonus points. We’ve seen Peter use many of his Spider powers to overcome various challenges. In the first Spider-Man movie, the fight with Flash highlights his Spider Sense. The trailer for that movie highlighted his use of webs, but also he’s always using them in fights in fights. Web-swinging is what allows him to save the children and MJ when the Green Goblin wants him to choose between them. The train in Spider-Man 2 really highlights his spider strength. However, the scene at the Washington Monument is the first time where his wall-crawling ability is his main asset. Once he gets inside it’s all about the webs, but the first part of that scene is just the question of can he climb up the outside of the building fast enough.

Great video as always, it's so good to hear some praises on this version of spiderman. Like you said, for me these movies are great because of their simplicity, spiderman is the only hero that we can relate to, that don't always fight aliens or is constantly saving the world, he saves people, individuals. In my opinion, both movies are one of the best on the MCU and the most consistent in tone and development. I can't wait to see where they're going to take him.

The thing that made teenage Spider-Man so interesting was that he was so competent. He didn't need any big hero to save him. He was the big hero. While yes, it would be more " "realistic" to make him more incompetent, but that would also be very disrespectful to what Stan Lee wanted. Yes, he wanted a teenage hero, and yes, he wanted him to have teenage struggles, but when he meant "teenage hero" he meant an inverse of what most teenage heroes were at the time, instead he was resourceful, unlucky, angry, stubborn, no mentor to guide him, well... except one but he lost him, because he looked the other way. Stan Lee wanted him to have teenage struggles, but he didn't mean that those struggles were because of him, what he meant was that those struggles were in spite of him. Example: (I literally just picked up a random classic issue, and reread a few scenes. Side note: read Lee & Ditko's run. It's so fooking good) TASM #4, PG 22: Pete just got done finishing off Sandman at his Highschool, so he comes back to his classmates and finally tries to ask Liz out, she diclines angrily, "What is it Peter? I happen to be quite busy!"(Liz was flirting with him earlier, but because of his responsibilities he kept making excuses), then after that, Flash starts bullying him, "run along and find your umbrella", leading to Peter threatening him, "You brainless loudmouth! You've insulted me for the last time! I'm gonna wipe that stupid leer off your face RIGHT NOW!", he then immediately realizes to himself, "WAIT! What am I doing?? I can't afford to lose my temper like this! With the strength of Spider-Man, if I get into a fight with a normal guy, I could pulverize him!", so he leaves, "I've got more important things to do!". Everyone starts mocking him and Flash says, "Sure, things like chickening out of fights". That's what made Peter a relatable teenage hero: not his personality, but the situations he was hit with.

You mention that all aspects of tension are maintained throughout the monument sequence, however I'd argue that the fear of heights, while a brilliant concept, is dropped quite quickly. His final solution to getting into the monument didn't quite acknowledge the fear of heights, beyond being the moment he sort of gets over it. Also wanted to point out that I adore the scene after the ferry sequence, as it's essentially Iron Man 3 being thrown at Peter by Tony. Iron Man isn't the gadgets, and neither is Spider-Man. Both heroes are defined by the people behind the mask.

Spending a dedicated amount of time keeping someone from jumping off of a building... Getting webbing on the floor, having MJ drop in on him looking glam as fuck while he's slowly stitching a patch of flesh back together in the bathroom, putting new plaster in the wall for the third time today, various things. He's the hardest working motherfucker marvel comics has to offer and marvel studios needs to respect that.

Even Fantastic Four 2005 had a saving sequence. FFH shouldve had civilians visually in danger and having drones begin to try to fire on civilians and he has to not only try to catch Beck, destroy the aggressive drones and protect the people (Also i love the first ad break at the exact moment Gwen’s neck breaks)

When Mysterio was taking on Hydro-Man, Peter prioritised protecting civilians by leading them to safety, and webbing up collapsing buildings. He also ensured Ned and Betty were safe via the collapsing Ferris wheel with his webs, though they were in imminent danger as opposed to the buildings situation.
