Tony died to bring Peter back again and now Peter is gone. Both of them never had a happy ending.

Peter has had such a horrible life and yet he is the most loving and caring person of his age. He lost his dad, uncle and now his dad/mentor/friend and besides that someone he looks up to as a friend and hero betrays him and tries to kill him and everyone he cares about.

The part in Spiderman Homecoming when Peter says if you cared enough you'd actually be here and Tony steps out just truly shows how much Tony cares for Peter.

At the beginning, Tony saw greatness in Peter. A genius, an innocent boy, and himself. And welcoming him into the fight may have been selfish at the start, it was Peter's dream to meet his idol once more after Iron Man 2. That became something more once Spider-Man: Homecoming came around, showing Peter becoming more and more like a son in Tony's eyes. Doing what Howard should of done for him. Be there for him, care for him, and raise him properly.
