Spider chord Dave Mustaine entrevista con Dave Navarro (subtítulos en español en las anotaciones)

Ойын-сауық

Bueno, pues me di a la tarea de subtitular esta entrevista en la que Dave Mustaine le da clases de guitarra a Dave Navarro. No soy experto en términos de guitarra eléctrica y menos si están en inglés, así que cualquier corrección será bienvenida. ¡Aguante Megadeth!

Dave Navarro is a very nice guy. I had a unexpected bar conversation with him for about 2 hours one night in Maryland. I was actually drunk and pissed off at my wife for some reason at the time but he was a very decent and understanding human being. Dave himself said he thinks he is not a good guitar player but can hold his own obviously. There was a bunch of other stuff that happened but he is just a good person.

For all the people crapping on Navarro’s tone. It’s a small show and their amps tend to be hit or miss. Look at his episode with George Lynch and his tone is much more like that of Mustaine’s in this video. Not to mention, it makes his playing sound much better.

Note how we never see Mustaine's thumb appear on the neck of the guitar. Just his four fingers. He holds his guitar, arm, wrist, hand and digits in a way that's similar to classical musicians. Maybe his posture transforms into a sound that's uniquely Dave? Pretty neat. LL

Mustaine is such a smooth player that has economy in he head all the time, never a bad note, he doesn’t get boxed in by music theory, he does a huge like 12 fret stretch, he created the spider chord so he can play cleaner and faster by economy. The spider chord is real mind f**k because it’s not a normal thing to fret another chord while you already have another chord fretted its like playing 2 different songs at once it’s like how a drummer has to separate and be in control of all 4 limbs to do different things but even harder it’s 4 fingers on one hand. Obviously practicing will make perfect but it’s still such an odd thing to do. It’s such a simple idea but nobody else thought about it everyone else just moves to the other chords like normal and at fast speeds is super hard to make it this clean. When you listen to Dave’s playing it’s like man I could never play that fast but then you watch him play and it looks effortless because he does stuff like this with economy in mind so he can play fast. When I play a megadeth song my fingers are moving 1000 mph all over the place I put way more effort into playing then needed like many people and that’s the reason why so many people like myself struggle to play fast you don’t need to pull ur fingers 4in off the fret and then wind up ur fingers like ur pitching for the Yankees to fret a note lol! All the super shedders move their fingers just enough to make note. If people learned early on that you don’t need to play so hard, don’t need to press down so hard it would help your playing get better faster. When I first started playing I bought a brand new fender strat, i practiced a good 4hrs a day 5 days a week I did this for 2 years after 1 1/2 years to 4 years I also had band practice 2 times a week for a few hours so that’s a lot of playing but I needed a fret job on the guitar already. The frets were the worst from the 12th fret to 22nd fret on the G B E strings and the funny thing is the guitar I played for my band was mainly rhythm and some leads but the leads I played were not high up on the GBE strings only one song did I play past the 12th fret on them strings and it was just a sweep picking thing and sweep picking I play very gently so it was just from me practicing scales and playing Metallica solos in my spare time that wore out them frets i played way too hard on them strings there was no reason for them frets to be worn out so bad just because I played way too hard. Had I got lessons early on I would have learned that I was playing too hard and I would have got better much faster I wasted all that time practicing wrong yes I got better but from playing too hard I wasn’t very good playing up high like that my hands weren’t not synced together very well because my technique wasn’t great I couldn’t get the timing right because of playing too hard. One other reason is from me playing in standard tuning with 10-52 strings so it was a workout, I switched to thinner strings which helped not fight the strings as hard but I wish I would have practiced in lower tunings that would have helped and also play a bunch of guitars to see what guitars felt better to solo on my strat is not the most comfortable to solo on with the regular bridge. One day I played my singers esp with a floating Floyd rose and a super flat neck it was so much easier to solo on I couldn’t believe it! He left that guitar at our practice space at my house and playing that guitar for just a month improved my solo playing more then years with my strat. Sure many people are fine soloing with soloing using a strat like mine but everyone is different for me I just am not that good with my strat. Now don’t get me wrong I could play I wasn’t a novice player my band opened for some famous bands, we had music on local radio stations in a few big cities in my state, we had a song in a movie, we weren’t big an famous or anything like that but we were a serious band with very good musicians, I have a great ear and our live shows were good I didn’t mess up because I have a good ear I made sure I played my parts solid I didn’t play anything live that I couldn’t play perfectly. I’m just saying that many people like myself have this “I gotta be self taught” in the beginning of playing and if I could go back I would have got lessons from day one it would have helped me improve in 1/4 of the time and I hope some new players out there read this and take it into consideration to get lessons. Now many teachers out there will want to force theory on you or force music you have no desire to play if you do that’s cool but if u don’t then you will need to find a teacher that works for you. Also just because a guitarist is amazing and can play anything doesn’t mean they are gonna be a good teacher many times they are not good teachers. I personally got lessons from one of the most insane guitarists around he’s one of the most technical players he plays the craziest 8 finger tapping and makes sounds you have never heard with a guitar, Ibanez didn’t believe he could play as fast and technical as he does so they made him send a video with a time clock before they would meet him and when they found out he was that good they signed a contract with him, his music is so technical that regular people any get into his music it’s more of a musicians band so he’s not famous like a John 5 guy but you get how insane of a player he is well I got a lesson from him and he wasn’t the greatest teacher. I found another guy who can play pretty much anything maybe not like the other guy but he can play any Van Halen solo, Megadeth, pantera and he was a great teacher and he understood that he needed to teach people what they want to learn because if he doesn’t then they won’t want to play it’s all about keeping the person inspired

Didn't lifted. Dave wrote these riffs for this songs. Metallica carried on playing those songs. Dave Mustain even has credits. So he has been getting alot of royalties for Metallica's songs since the 80's. If you open the album cover for example on Ride the lightning and look at the title track. It says written by Dave Mustain, James Hetfield and Larr Ulrich. The same applies with Four Horseman, from Kill Em' All.

I think most people are put off by the fact that Navarro’s tone almost lacks all mid range. It’s like someone’s dialled down the bass, completely dialled out the mids and the upper the treble and gain to maximum. There doesn’t seem to be any mid range presence in his tone here, and this isn’t like his tone on various records.

I've come to realize that although he's pleasant enough Mustaine is a really strange person. Especially with this symphony interrupted thing he just did. He's self delusional.

You cares? I mean, Navarro doesn't even care about 22 or 24 frets, and he has some of the first and most influential "alternative rock" album and a legendary band. I wonder how much jealous people get a Navarro, including RHCP both signer and ex-guitar.

Dave Navarro has such a buzzy, awful tone. That super-heavy, scooped-mid shit is OK for death metal bands, but that's it.
