Spicy kitten socialization: Loko learns to love

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Due to resource constraints, it’s common to return kittens who are older than 12 weeks back outside, if they cannot be quickly socialized.
This is the story of how one spicy kitten learned to love. With lots of patience from foster volunteers and a little help from Uncle Garfield, Loko and each of his siblings are all living the good life now in their own forever homes.
But there are still so many spicy kittens out there who still need help. These scared little ones have a special place in our heart, because we know there’s a better world waiting for them.
They can’t see it yet - but you can. Make a donation today to help so many more cats like Loko: www.flatbushcats.org/build

I actually prefer fostering unsocialised cats... I'm not a very active person and quiet and I always feel a sort of... connection to that shyness that they feel, being very anxious when it comes to socialising myself... but cats are amazing creatures and I would die for them /srs All of the unsocalised kitties I've fostered ended up becoming such lovely cats and once they felt comfortable, they were so loving and cuddly. It's never amazes me how much much they change just from having a personal foster parent and a quiet place to chill and relax. Even just letting them hide and come out on there own was so beneficial to them. My favourite kitty was my first foster... Oliver. He stayed a little timid and shy from all the time I was caring for him. He'd come on my bed and lay next to my legs..... but on the last night that I had him... he came up and curled up by my neck. It makes me cry just thinking about it.. I loved him a lot. and I constantly miss him. The regret I feel from him not being a foster fail feels like a stab in the heart, honestly. He grew up to be such a beautiful cat... very long and beautiful orange fur. I am technically allergic to cats so one with such long hair would kill me.. but... as I said earlier. I would die for cats. and I would more than willingly suffer if it meant keeping Oliver. I'll never forget him... my son...

my cat Dimitri takes a similar role to Garfield. He teaches new kittens how to groom, where the good nap spots are, and how to play with the good toys. He has helped dozens of kittens learn how to cat, and each time a cat becomes an “apprentice” they get a new name starting with D. So far the list of graduates from Dimitri’s program include Dexter Damian Dorian DeeDee Delilah Daphne Dominic Dexi Domino Dasher Dancer Donder(winter kittens of course)

I'm still so angry at my local shelter. I fostered for them for over 10 years, and a year ago they stopped calling. They decided all fosterers had to have a car (I don't, because I live in an urban area, with decent public transportation). Didn't even have the decency to call and let me know. I had to read about it on the website.

I endorse and support, both emotionally and financially, your affordable clinic. I think it’s important for others to realize as well, that the more successful you are with this clinic, the greater the price pressure on other clinics to also come down to a more affordable and accessible option. your success will benefit not just your clinic, but the other clinics in surrounding areas who will need to compete.

Going on about five years now, I have been an occasional watcher of the Tiny Kittens HQ channel, who are a cat rescue in the Vancouver area. Early on when I started watching, they had a resident cat living in their base because he was an old cat with health problems. Grandpa Mason was a feral old guy, kidney problems and very few teeth. He was the resident kitten babysitter after one time a litter of orphans were put in his room and they immediately climbed into his cat bed with him and he was calm and welcoming. After that, he would be introduced to kittens whose mothers were in maternity (kittens were usually 6-8 weeks when introduced to Mason), and one kitten with her own health issue, Aura, was one of his kids and stayed a permanent resident due to her cleft palette needing treatment and her becoming besties with TK's "Miracle Kitten", Cassidy (who is very selective on who he likes). Mason eventually crossed the bridge, so the resident babysitter role now belongs to Aura, who is a respectable 5-yr-old lady these days. I tell this take because the idea of older cats being babysitters for kittens is one I have encountered before, online, and I also think a feral being able to see a tame cat being treated well by humans helps them calm down.

We all love and miss Grandpa Mason so much.🙏💖😽🍀🌈🌉

This reminds me of my little one I adopted last year. I adopted her from a rescue org but was she really wasn't socialized yet (The adopters obviously told me this and recommended I pick someone different) but I loved her and took her anyways. I had experience watching Flatbrush's videos and other videos on socializing and she wasn't spicy, just very scared. I spent time with her in her private room one on one with her for several days. She was getting better but very little progress was being made. That was until my 2nd cat came into the room. I had the window open and she just wanted to look out of it and walked into the room completely ignoring the kitten. I was lying near the kitten on the floor and suddenly she got up and walked past me (she never got up when I was in the room) and B-lined it straight for my other cat. They immediately started sniffing each other all over for about 5 minutes. Just that single interaction turned her into a different cat. The next day she was letting me pet her, purring and was rolling over on her back to show me her belly. It's almost like she was waiting for confirmation of some sort. She's about 2 years old now and is pretty much attached at the hip to me at all times.

We borrowed a friend's car and drove a couple hours to a wonderful facility in Long Island ($75). They put our lil guy under for the procedure then called to say he was actually neutered... Insane! Making this more affordable will find more homes for strays. Keep up the great work.

There is a never end to kittens! Here in DE I dread kitten season each year. So I TNR here in my neighborhood and educate folks why TNR is so vital. Plus donating to Flatbush Cats 😅each month is my out of town support for Kitties.

Love the shoebox scene. And I remember both Aria and Guapo & I'm glad for all three of these cats that A&G's dads gave Lolo a home, too.

If everybody donated a dollar, you wouldn't even miss it. But FCs would do amazing things.

Sometimes I forget that our cat, Wyatt, was a feral stray. This video reminded me of when we first got him. I don't know what miracle allowed it to happen, but a year or so after we got him, we found out he was blind. You'd never know unless you quietly extend a finger toward him, full light of day, and touch his nose. He gets a total surprise from it, and that's how the Vet determined he was blind. Anyway, he adjusted so well that I forgot how he was when we got him -- so much like the little fellows in this video. What a gift cats are to humans. They really don't ask for much, and the love and comic-relief they give back are priceless.

I have a big young male who fills the role of protecting and grooming abandoned cats, both adult or kitten. He is also a great hunter and seeking human contact. Compared to the other cats, he is the most socialized cat I have.

Good job, kittens, and good job to Mani and Gafield ofr being such good mentor kitties. -- My little former teen mama kitty has now been with me 1 year and 9 months, a long way (a few feet) from under a car in an apt parking lot as a kitten. She's so great, living the good life indoors. -- A semi-feral, semi-friendly girl cat I've known of maybe more than two years has recently decided that getting petted more is nice after all. She's not yet ready for it to be more than on her terms, because she still gets spooked by moves she's not ready for. But this getting petted more, and more often, is a big step for her. She's a nice cat, but totally outdoors. So I'm hoping for more progress. Meanwhile, the friendly stay tomcat still always wants out, and often brings around other needy cats for food, a sweet big lug of a cat. Fewer ferals and stays lately, but they will always appear, despite a round of TNR last year from a group that has had a mixed response in my experience. so far, no kittens have arrived, except a neighbor boy who took one in, but then I haven't heard from after that. The semi-feral / friendly grey girl doesn't seem to be able to have kittens, or at least, no signs she's gotten pregnant and has never brought kittens around.

I’m so happy to donate monthly to you guys, not only for the care and love you give to all these cats, but for the compassion and understanding you give to their caretakers as well. It’s really easy to think of not spaying/neutering pets as an individual problem, but the overall lack of access to affordable care is a systemic one. Especially now, when finances are hard for everyone, something like what you guys are working towards should be available in every community.
