    Boy, I sure miss nice smaller comic shows like that. Nothing but big conventions in my area. "And uh, ... it looks like he's pretty screwed." - ROTFLOL That was awesome!

    Found your channel yesterday and just finished binge watching all of your Building a Comic Business videos. Great series, so please keep the episodes coming! I have a bunch of questions and rather than lump them all into one post, I'll do a few posts...

    I have never seen or even knew about that Baker digest. And I’ve been collecting him since the ‘90s. I have all his keys too.

    I saw you have Zoot 12 posted twice on eBay!

    Hi, it’s not posted twice, I often use the eBay advertising option and it posts the standard listing and the advertised listing. But it all goes to the same listing.

    Great finds. Any feeling why some of these dealers would still be selling books like this raw at those prices? Is it mostly dealers who are anti-cgc or did they have slabbed books also?

  • @AutomaticComics

    I mean a lot of the books from the dealer I made that second deal with were priced pretty high so I wasnt interested in them. Not like it was a booth filled with deals or I would have bought a lot more =). You have to look at a lot of comics to find those deals out there. The guy I bought the first bundle from always has reasonable prices, which is why I keep going back to him.

    Your idea of humor and horror in that Tales from the Crypt is.... hmmm. Being buried alive is nothing to laugh at, sir! 😂 One of my favorite pch books for humor and horror is Tales from the Crypt #39. Ok, still may be light on the humor but it's one of my fave pch covers.

    Back in the beginning, when you were selling lots, how did you choose the contents of the lots? Did you cherry pick the better books and sell them separately, or include them in the lots? What price did you start your Lot auctions at? I remember you being concerned about possibly not making any money off a sale for some of them...

  • @AutomaticComics

    @AutomaticComics

    Ай бұрын

    Yes I did pick out the books that were like $20+ and sell them separately. Everything else I just sold as lots grouping under the same title if possible. The size of the lots I set as what could fit in a Gemini mailer and then into a usps legal flat rate envelope. I started all the auctions at $0 (or I think 1 cent is the lowest ebay allows). Plus shipping, to ensure I never lost money on a sale.

    Ryan, just a basic grading question: would you ever buy a vintage key golden age or PCH comic with a detached centerfold? If yes, what would be the boundaries around this? If no, what is the main reason? I have read mixed comments on this. I respect your perspective.

    I have bought plenty of golden age books with detached covers, detached centerfolds, detached pages, etc. I don’t have any issue with those flaws.

    Final questions... But I'm sure I can come up with others if you want them... You said back at the beginning that you would recommend setting a business up as a sole-proprietorship. If you do that, don't you still need to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes? Don't remember hearing you mention that at all... Do you just track Your purchases, sales, etc, in spreadsheets, or do you use some sort of accounting software like QuickBooks? How do you track and report your deductions that you will be making for tax purposes? Love your channel, and will start exploring the rest of it shortly. Right now I'm You Tubed out...

    You do. I’m not going to give tax preparation advice though =). You should probably talk with a tax professional if you’re looking into that side of running a business. Yes, I just use a spreadsheet. That’s where I track sales and expenses/deductions.

    Have you had to deal with much fraud while selling on ebay, such as someone saying that they never received the wrong item, or that you sent them an empty box? How do you deal with returns, or do you never allow returns?

  • @AutomaticComics

    @AutomaticComics

    Ай бұрын

    Only a couple times in the last 4-5 years. So it’s pretty uncommon. Also yes I’ve had to deal with returns. You can say you don’t accept returns on eBay all you want; but eBay always lets the person return the item. So just accept the return and move on.

    $1,500 at a Comic Con? Pfft.................. add 2 zeros and MAYBE it would get a lot of views? - I mean, a decent Key Book is going to be a lot more than that!
