Spending a Night on the Japanese Forgotten Ferry | Kokura to Matsuyama

I took a Japanese local ferry from Kokura to Matsuyama. It connects two islands, Kyushu and Shikoku. The ship is 35 years old. It was quite interesting and exciting to spend a night.

Here in the Phils, our ferries are usually 40+ years old ferries from Japan. There'd be slight refurbishments here and there, like attaching seats/benches or bunk beds, removing rooms and so on. A lot of the signage on doors would be in Japanese. I've even gone on one where the toilet was a squat toilet. There'd also be big square or rectangular shaped rust spots randomly on the hallway floors, and I used to wonder what could've stood there for a long time that was that big. Probably the vending machines. A lot of these ferries smell really musty, especially the ones with old carpets, or smelled like cigarette smoke. It's different from company to company, a few care more than the others. Thanks to your channel, I could see what our ferries used to look like before. This one though, is the closest to the ones we have here. The other videos look too fancy 😆

Another relaxing trip. Thank you. I've walked that tunnel under the Kanmon Strait, from Kyushu to Honshu (elevator lift at both ends feels like 'how deep is this') then stayed in a hostel overlooking the strait. Back then the bridge seemed more lit up at night, with so many ships passing through. Took the small day ferry from Hiroshima-Kure-Matsuyama, but the large overnight ferries look like a relaxing trip and bed for the night.

Do all these ferries that you ride on also take shipping cargo? I can't imagine how they stay in business when they are so sparsely used by travelers. PS: I love your jokes and sense of humor! :)

I've watched a lot of these Japan ferry videos and a common theme is huge tractor trailer type trucks queuing on the docks.

I really liked your socks. At least you tried the curry drink. Ship looked so lonely. I wonder if the ship sails with just one person on board.
