Spending 16+hrs in an Ultra-Spacious Suite on a Japanese Ferry to Hokkaido
I'm taking Shin Nihonkai Ferry from Niigata to Otaru (Hokkaido). I booked the largest cabin on the ship. This route allows you to arrive in Hokkaido early in the morning.

Friend, we watch you because of you showing us a part of the world we will never see. And your love of curry, of course. 😂 Equipment can go faulty, but I'd bet most of your followers would watch a video of yours even if the audio was just static. Stay well, friend.

All the beautifully prepared foods you were served and not a single sighting of curried rice. Didn't the ferry company recognize you on the boarding list? Lol.

I always look for an “extra” empty bowl, STJ can be sneaky sometimes 😂
Every time STJ-san bites into a piece of food and the subtitles show [!!], I can't help but imagine him saying "Mmmm!" in his own mind. He's a true blue food connoisseur and enthusiast.
I am a 72 year old American woman, and I LOVE your videos! They are interesting and delightful. Thank you for all you put into these. Please keep the videos coming. I am learning a lot.
My dear friend, I notice that you are embarking on yet another incredible adventure. As someone who also faces numerous challenges, I find solace in watching your videos, which effortlessly make my day pass by. I am truly grateful for the time and dedication you invest in creating these videos. Sending you lots of love and wishing you safety and enjoyment on my behalf.
Well trained pillow-great abs 😂😂😂 I like your sense of humor 🎉
I absolutely love your videos. They give me such a sense of peace. And I love exploring Japan through your eyes. Thank you so much.
When he said “What’s in the box?” did anyone else picture an itsy bitsy Gwyneth Paltrow head in there? This was so fun, as always, STJ! Thank you! And that food looked absolutely stunning! 💚🙏🕊🛳️

What a great trip. Great ship, food, amenities, onboard facilities in your room or in the main deck. And yeah even though the arrival time is definitely early morning, but you can stay around one and half hour
You know, before finding your channel, I had no desire to go to Japan. Now, I want to go so bad ! But I would have to diet before going because the food looks so delicious ! Thank you again for another great video. By the way, I just planted my sunflowers 🌻 today 😊
I loved the description of the "potato" as "potato salad" 😂
I enjoyed "our" meal!!! The beef looked wonderful! Thank you!!
I love that the ferry staff waves goodbye. Thank you for another wonderful video Solo-san. 🥰

I always think of the job specifications…can you wave effectively? Can you wave in time with others while holding a glow stick? 😂
I love your trips on ferries. They're always entertaining and the meals so appetizing I wish I lived closer.
Oh man...unagidon with tamagoyaki! I am hungry for eel now! Yeah, you may not be a big fan of eel, but it's one of my favorites! Find me a place that serves unagidon, takoyaki, and okonomiyaki and you have a customer for life!
I learned a lot about Japanese culture and daily life with these kind of travel videos.Thank you so much for your afforts.
Love Japanese ferries and your peaceful videos mr solo-san
You always make my mouth water when you survey your meals. A vicarious pleasure for me.
omg I live in Niigata and I already miss the old bus stop, it was one of the last if not THE last bus terminals in Japan to have the busses park in backwards. I also took the same ship route in March but in the opposite direction when I returned from my solo trip to Hokkaido!
Hello from France 🇫🇷, i see lot's of japan vidéos on the ferry and really for me it's SUNFLOWER the Best. Thank lot for a visit. Bye
The ship lobby’s are always so clean and shined.
That eel looked 🤌🏾 I love eel! Your cabin looked 🤌🏾 also. I wanna be like you when I "grow up" (I'm probably way older than you) Haha
It looks like it was a comfortable trip, and the food looked amazing. Thanks for taking us on the voyage.
I mm will never see Japan in person so I very much enjoy watching your videos !
I always enjoy your videos, something about them makes me feel less lonely. Thank you for the hard work.
😊😊😊😊 the squeak in the camera malfunction remains me of my Pomeranian when he is wanting me to pick him up i love it lol
Usually I watch your videos from at home in Australia, but today I am watching from my hotel room in Kanazawa. I wish I was in Japan for longer so I could catch a ferry ! Oh well, next time. I will think of you during hotel breakfast buffet as I eat my Kanazawa curry! Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication!
Unajyu, it's not something you are, it's something you have!
The food looks so good! I'd love to go on a trip like this.
The bathromm of this suite is as large as my whole flat!
More ferry videos! Thank you solo travel Japan 🙏❤️
I want that model ship! How nice! Ships, trains, ferries make me so happy. I live with a not to distant view of ferries, ships and all manner of vessles right from my two front facing windows. 🙋🏻♀️🌸🇨🇦🥰 Ty always lovely. Grilled eel wow super tasty looking. In New Brunswick my sister eats caught eel. Never had thst personally but seeing yours? Yum!

@@alex31245 Good one! I’m a huge fan of unagi
Another great adventure!
I think that I would spend most of my time in that tub with a view.
I absolutely adore unagi and unajyu, not just because I enjoy the texture of river eel, but also because the sweet, salty, umami sauce that comes with it is one of the best things ever, to me. Looks like you had a fine time on this cruise!
That cabin looks like an apartment! It was enormous!
It looks like an amazing trip.relaxing.
Thanks looks a great journey
All your videos make me want to come visit Japan just to take a Sunflower ferry trip! :)
Best parts of your videos are the food you eat and the room tours
You must have been very disappointed. No beef curry and no pine bath. My wife and I are coming to japan next week. We won't be doing any ferries, though.

You should!! It’s about the same cost as a hotel room, and you get to see a different part of the country!
Banger video even with the extra noise.❤❤❤❤
love your vids, the food always looks amazing (even when not sure what it is!), don't know how anyone gets through those huge meals though
Another great video. Thankyou. My new dream is to take a ferry journey in Japan, inspired by you. And also visit Ueda castle and Sanada museum.
Awesome as always, STJ! The room service food looked way too beautiful to eat! That's my kind of cruise. Get room service, chill out in the cabin, watch TV and take a nap!! (Yes, I am an American, lol!) 😆
From Taiwan: I enjoy your VIDEO As ASMR or my travel guide
Your videos make me relaxed and hungry! Thanks for making these :)
I've been reading, and apparently food allergies and restrictions are not always catered to in Japan. The room looked amazing, as did the food, but as someone with a seafood allergy, I couldn't have eaten a lot of what you get served. I do wonder if you could book a suite without the meal service, because I would like to be able to eat the food that I pay for... Anyway, thanks a lot for taking us with you today!
Thanks for sharing this ferry video!
Love your videos, have learned so much about Japan from your travels.
Can't wait to watch this tonight after work! ❤
Wonderful video. Thank you for making these!
Such a lovely suite, and a really beautiful dinner! Thanks as always for sharing your travels with us. 🐻☕
Very nice video! Very nice cuisine! And snow!!!!!!!
I am in awe of the cleanliness and order in Japanese society. I could live there very happily! I’m from a military family so was brought up to be respectful of others and their possessions. It looks to me that the people of Japan have a similar mindset. 😊 Edit… I’d really struggle with the food though. I’m vegetarian and have to avoid certain foods for medical reasons. One of them being rice 😢 I love it but it doesn’t love me 😞
16:44 beautiful scenery.

It always seems you have the whole ship to yourself 😀
Thanks! Love watching your videos.

Oh yeah with it looking that cold I can see why you didn’t use the open air bath! But wow I can see why the cost was so high since it included 2 meals. I’ve recently taken the opposite trip on the Lavender ship and on the Azalea ship from Niigata to Tsuruga.
✨beautiful egg 🍳✨ 3:40

I love it. I am taking notes as I watch your videos because you are travelling during the time frame that I plan to visit in 2026. Maybe we will cross paths then.

Wonderful. Greetings from Canada.
Always enjoy these adventures, and your sense of humor. However, as an American, I can tell you that was definitely not a basic toilet 😂. (I also lived in Japan for three years as a JET program member).
15:51 - That lunch looks like it's perfect for me! I was hoping to see more videos about how to get to Hokkaido and Sapporo from the greater Kanto or Tohoku regions of Honshu. I'm in the early planning stages for a Japan trip and am planning to spend a majority of my time in Hokkaido. I have an idea of how I'll get back to Tokyo from there, but I'm still not sure about if I want to get there quickly by Shinkansen, or slowly by Ferry or overnight bus. I always enjoy your videos
I've always wanted to try a grilled eel and rice bowl. They look delicious 😋. Maybe someday 😊
Wow, I've had smaller apartments in Canada than this suite on a Japanese ferry...
Very cool video, thanks for sharing it. Love seeing these all the time, helps me relax at night seeing the sights and calmness of it all. ❤ I do have a question for you STJ, are you a fan of Tousouchuu? By any chance.
3:35 heh. The "I'm not even going to try" Omurice.
Nice room. The only time I used that bathroom chair on a ferry, it wasn't in the shower. Guess where? I get terribly seasick haha.
Pfft what a basic toilet, only has 16 buttons :D.

Taiyo ni mamorarete!
11:55 That's the jingle for FamilyMart, interesting it's used in the ferry lol
I laughed at that doorbell chime - it was great! Also, there was a Karaoke room and you didn't go in to sing the Sunflower song?
Ooh, I ❤❤❤ unajyu! I had it for dinner last week! Your lunch looks soooo yummy! I always enjoy your ferry trips.
Seeing the karaoke room on board made me wonder why they're not on every ship. This is the first one I've noticed.
❤❤❤❤❤
as an non native speaker, i really wish there would be from time to time a little voiceover, at least for Local Names, but also i love the silence in your videos...
"I'm ready to eat" 😂😃
OMG! I'm pretty sure Solo's Link! And that's not a ship, it's Hyrule in disguise. (18:19 ) And is it weird that the one thing from Solo/Link's dinner I'm dying to try is chimaki? I love sticky rice!
Japan must be bigger than I'm imagining in my head... somewhere between twelve and sixteen hours to get from the middle of Japan up to almost the tip?

End the mystery! What is Miso soup? Usually it appears to be a light broth with some green onions floating on top. Other times there are ingredients that sink to the bottom. What qualifies a soup as miso? 🇺🇲 greetings from Chicago, Illinois USA
@annettefournier9655
3 ай бұрын
Miso is soybean paste made with Koji and rice, that is what is floating in the bottom.the broth is umami rich taste made of seaweed and dried fish but it tastes nothing like either. I hate both those things and love miss soup. The plain type had green onions and tofu cubes. Red miso is a bit richer in flavor.
