Even from the perspective of twilight, they both played their roles perfectly fine from what was on the paper. There is nothing remotely interesting about their characters at all. The fact that all the only thing you can say about Bella is that shes awkward, meant that every teenage girl could project themselves onto her.

I do like that this movie doesn't focus on Princess Diana's death or her time after she and Prince Charles got divorced, but just focus on a few holidays in her life. And royalty or not, it's always a bit hard to spend Christmas with your family.

And it's best to portrayed it that way. Reminded me how Tarantino portrayed Sharon Tate in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, instead of showing her murder, just make her live free and happy till the end of the movie cuz she was a beautiful innocent woman that truly deserves so much better. People often forget that in the beginning there's a tagline saying "A fable from a true tragedy" so just like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, this is fantasy fictional historical movie, imagining someone's story of your own in a positive way, not a straightforward biopic movie we've seen thousand times already. I liked this unique take on Diana, and i have full respect that they didn't portrayed her tragic death as part of the story

It didn't portray Diana in a very positive light. She's surrounded by rich, historic luxury paid for by her people, and she hates it. She of course is all, "turn up the heat, don't make me eat, I don't wanna wear THAT lush gown, let me wear this one. I don't like YOU, where is my regular girl who dresses me? The one who loves meeeee!" It's Diana as I'd never seen her before! Bratty, complaining, crazy, hallucinating, I mean... no love for her came through in this film. I could only feel bad for her kids.

I love how it didn't feel like a conventional bio pic but more of a psychological horror film. Really added a more personal connection of how Diana was feeling mental health wise of being part of the royal family without us being able to normally relate to someone in her position.

Well... I may be the black sheep here this time. This is the very first time I disagree with Chris. I went to watch it after seeing this review as he's by far my favourite critic. What a massive disappointment!!! This movie, in addition to being awfully boring, slow paced and pointless, is an insult to Diana's memory. It depicts her as the delusional, lunatic, paranoid "crazy Diana" the Royal Family has always tried to sell to the world. Everybody knows she was very sad, frustrated and gutted with everything over her disastrous marriage and royal life, but did her best to hide it from the world until that famous interview that culminated in divorce from her unfaithful husband. In public she was smiling, charming, elegant and shiny, despite of her shyness. She was a total unfit in the royal hypocrisy and dullness, but the movie try to convince us that it was her fault, not theirs! I thought this would at least touch the important things she did like her humanitarian work. Even if it wanted to full focus on her personal life, they should have done it more respectfully. Kirsten Stewart does a pretty good job, even her British accent convinces. The stunning cinematography is also a highlight and so is Sally Hawkins. But it's far from enough to save this disaster. Seriously, if you know a glimpse of Diana's life, do yourself a favour, skip it, save your time and money!

I agree that Kristen Stewart gives a knockout performance in this movie and I think it's very well crafted. As a British person though, I have to say there are some historical and contextual inaccuracies but then again most biopics are full of them. I also like your very 'balanced' take about royal life. It's hugely regimented and likely soul draining for those not born into it or who posses more of a free spirit. The Queen has allegedly told friends that it's her own "chronic lack of an imagination" that has allowed her to thrive in her role for 70 years.

Yet, I can't bring myself to envy The Firm... That's not a lifestyle I'd want to live. No privacy, no freedom, very few close and meaningful human relationships. I very much value being free to make my own choices, on big issues as much as in the trivial aspects of my daily life. The life they live, even if it is filled with luxury, is absurd.

Okay, you get that this movie is almost entirely fictional, right...? I mean, yes, they had a terrible marriage, but Diana was every bit as vicious and hateful as Charles was cold and distant. Not to mention how cruelly and abusively she treated the majority of the servants and nannies, and the fact that Diana was the first one to be unfaithful in the marriage. Don't get me wrong, Charles and the rest of the royal family are awful too, but this movie is basically massively biased Diana-worshipping propaganda, and I really thought we as a country were getting past that finally. And yeah, it's a very well made movie with a fantastic central performance, but I really hope it inspires the general public to do a bit of research and wake up to the fact that they were both just pretty shitty people.
