Spencer Davis Group Finnish TV 1967 Live

The original line-up, with Steve Winwood: Hammond, guitar, voice, Spencer Davis: guitar, voice, Muff Winwood : bassguitar, Pete York: drums.
This video is a combination of 4 videos I found here, on KZread. I placed a lomo filter over the original image (just for fun), and did a lot of work to improve I hope on the original sound: mono to stereo conversion, so I could add some reverb to the singing, and a loudness compressor. Also I time-shifted the sound a bit for better sync with the video.
In the last song, Dust My Broom, Steve W. switches to solo guitar -very well done-, and Spencer Davis does an excellent job at singing this old favorite of mine. At the end is a stupid interview...

Spencer Davis, the leader of a rock group that had some of the most propulsive and enduring hits of the 1960s, including “Gimme Some Lovin’,” “I’m a Man” and “Keep On Running” - all sung not by him but by a teenage Steve Winwood - died Monday October 19, 2020, in Los Angeles. He was 81. The cause was pneumonia, Bob Birk, his booking agent and friend, said, adding that Davis had been hospitalized for the last week. Davis co-wrote “Gimme Some Lovin’,” his group’s biggest hit. He played rhythm guitar in the band and occasionally sang lead vocals, lending his baritone voice mostly to blues-oriented material and never to the band’s hit singles.

One of the first rock shows l went to in the mid 60's was at the Finsbury Park Estoria. The Spencer Davis Band weren't the headline act, but were brilliant, especially their great and soulful vocalist - Steve Winwood, who I believe was only 17 at the time. I'm 75 now but it still remains clear in my memory!

I was 15 when I saw the Spencer Davis Group in late 1967 in White Pigeon, Michigan (sans Stevie). There were about a half a dozen people in the audience with a blizzard outside. Stevie's replacement was a guitarist named Ray. I was like 3 feet in front of Ray when they lit into there first number, "Dust My Broom." Talk about blown away! Winwood's leaving was tragic but the band's recovery was miraculous. Unfortunately, they never got the recognition they deserved. Thank you Spencer for all the hard work. RIP

Droitwich Baths, Digbeth Civic etc) before they inevitably hit the 'Big Time' in the early 60s. Stevie Winwood was electrifying at just 15 years of age; Amazing voice; Multi talented musician....Genius.... & the rest of the band were no slouches either, they were ALL masters of their instrument. Great Group: Great Times: Gratefull I'm still around to enjoy the video thank you so much for the memory.

Stevie was a teen when I was in my college years. I’ll never forget the impact his voice had on me. He always had that white soul vocal and high range. He was obviously inspired by Ray Charles. Great that Spencer Davis realized his young keyboardist and guitarist with the magical voice should sing lead. But, then, here’s Spencer Davis singing Dust my Blues in the same key and register as Stevie! I had no idea! Awesome old priceless video! Stevie’s lead was ahead of its time in this song.

As for the actual performance of the group ('60's for band), weeeeelll just fantastic. Anyone care to say if they preferred Little Stevie in the SDG, rather than Traffic? Be brave now, 'cos it's an awfully long time ago and Coronavirus is gonna hit all of us old enough to remember this stuff! Big thanks to Mr. John for posting this. It helps to make up for all the quality film that the British TV channels wiped with such glee at the start of the '70's.

Did anybody go to the Red Lion pub in central Birmingham in 1966 to listen to SPG and Stevie? I think it was every Thursday night for about a year. They played the blues, and we (girls and boys) use to dance a slow kind of rhythm and blues waltz to their superb blues renderings. We knew Stevie would become a legend - a quiet one at that.

Steve Winwood was 19 here- 19!! He was like a Mozart of rock- writing, singing, playing beautiful guitar, terrific organ- a quadruple threat. And the Band sounds fantastic live- what an outfit. The bass guitar on "I'm a Man" sounds menacing, and Pete York was a really good drummer. This performance is of a much higher live musical quality compared to other bands at the time, even the Beatles. I kind of wish the Spencer Davis group could have been expanded into something like Traffic, instead of being replaced by Traffic. Also, love the jazz break in "Georgia". Thanks for this video, with it's unbelievably great sound.

Searched high and low for any album by the Spencer Davis Group in the mid 1970's. Could only find "The Best of the Spencer Davis Group". Some re-issue, cutout......but I bought it and wasn't disappointed. I'll have to dig it up and give it a listen.

It all started right here for me all those years ago. Listened to so much music since, not sure any of it is as simply compelling as this.

Love the way the band seamlessly breaks into a shuffle for the organ solo on "Georgia."

This group was really fantastic, I can remember this years very well, I grow older at this time. Thanks for this video! It's so sad that such great musicians have to leave us. RIP Spencer

….Yeah…. GIMME SOME LOVING. I’ve always felt this song moved people, cheered people on. It’s meant to inspire everyone to love life. Stuff like that ⭐️🚁

Thanks for the introduction, and for the editing of the four videos. I first met The Spencer Davis Group and then Traffic, which is one of my favorites from that time, and now. I also really like Blind Faith. (Jorge Villa).

I've loved this band since I 1st heard them in the 60s. I still have quite a few of their records to this day 😎👍
