Spektrum IX12 Sailplane programming

I have tried to describe as much as I could how I am programming scale sailplanes on my iX12. Quite a long video (15mn) but I hope it will help you programming your model on an easier manner.
This is for a quarter scale all molded BS-1 scale sailplane with 2 ailerons, two flaps and a motor. Flaps are operated on the right slider and crow setup on the throttle stick. The Motor is operated on the left slider.
If you have questions don't hesitate, I will try to answer them the best I can.

Thank you so much for the video. I am having troubles with the butterfly configuration I have the same configuration as you throttle sitck control the air brake and left slider control the throttle. My problem is that flap servos move 1/4 of the total travel... trying to fixing yet, some advise? The model it's a copy of the same airplane model that works perfectly with robbe servos the new one that doesn't work as expected have kst. Thanks for your time

Hi Stephane, first of all, great video. I noticed that you also have a Hangar 9 ASH31. I also have one but haven't a lot of experience setting up a glider as you have done in this video (with all the crow and mixes etc) so was wondering if you could do a similar video with the setup for the ASH31, it would help me a lot to know the settings of an experienced pilot so I get my initial setup correct. Also, with my Dx9, my vario give me a rising and lowering tone as the glider goes up or down in lift, but I can't get that feature to work on my ix12. Do you know the secret to this?. Thanks for any assistance that you may be able to provide.

David, send me you email an I will send you my spm or ispm file for my ASH-31, that should help you quite a bit to see how I did it and put it up to your taste

Do you have to put the flaps on a slider? Can't you just put the flaps on a switch like an airplane mode

James, if you want to use a switch, you can. Do do it that way you want to use the camber preset on the flight mode. You can also map the flap channel to a switch and use digital switch to get the proper output you want on the switch position.

When you use a sailplane most of the rc pilots want to control the air speed with the form of the wings. We use throttle stick because its more precise to use the mix between flaps and ailerons... throttle up high speed with flaps and ailerons a little up, throttle down flaps 90 degrees down and ailerons up, the plane decrease speed very fast also include a elevator mix to limit climbing

How do you like the ix12 compared to other radios?

I can only compare to the radio I had on my hands (spektrum, Graupner, multiplex...) and would say it is just a matter of adaptation, we get in habits but using the same tool and when we change technology there is a time to adapt (moving from Win 7 to win10, moving from windows to Mac, moving from IOS to android....). I was not used to android (I use IOS on my phone) so there has been a period to adapt, but after a year I still have it and moved close to all my models to it as I like to form fact, so I guess I overcame the difficulties. My thought is no matter what it will be the trend for the radio to make the end user interface more user friendly, so better adapt now as later it will be probably the main technology for radio either with spektrum or other Brands.

@@StephaneRuelle make sense. It really worries me to have that level of electronic device on my controller. We have all had a computer device quit due to battery, start up issues, corrupt file, or something. Would just hate to spend the money and only get 3 years out of the controller

woogieman02 I understand your concern, my understanding is that android is only an interface and the radio keep priority on the program, even with android not booted up you can control the model, so I feel safe there. As far as longevity, I think Horizon / Spektrum is one of the brand that has the best support for their products, so if issue would rise I am sure that they would be able to support the product long after not sold anymore, they are still supporting the JR 12X and 9303 so I feel confortable with the longevity, but futur will tell for sure.

I really like my IX 12 transmitter. When you're not downloading stuff put it in airplane mode to save power. When you don't need the screen put it to sleep in the settings. The screen sucks up 32% of the power used by your transmitter
