I watched Peter most of his career and it was great when he became world speedway champion in 1976.Not only a very skilled rider but a full on racer too.........Regards Barry

Once I was younger I saw some long track races with Müller and Maier and .... I'll never forget them racing ... thanks for sharing

Never seen long track speedway before, it is a whole new animal, amazing.

Best race I’ve ever seen. The courage of Peter Collins here to keep it all wound on when I doubt he could barely see is simply amazing. The pounding his body must have been taking from the dirt thrown up by Muller’s back wheel! It was obviously very wet & heavy.

Only wish the BBC would pick up a highlights package of the SGP gps Such an amazing sport and most people dont even know it exists

I’ve seen Collins on grass at western winner left them all standing great rider

This takes me back in time when I was a teenager 🎸😀 I would like to bring back this scene and put music to it like the old days when I use to go every week. Hopefully if I can upload some of the speedway videos if it is possible 🙏🏍🎺

That pass is phenomenal. Pure skill, no fear.

A Classic Peter Collins race. Started well back and then just reeled Egon Muller in. You need plenty of guts to ride regular speedway, but long track is something else again. Ton up on a 60 horsepower methanol single that steers like a bicycle.

The engine that Peter Collins raced was borrowed from another German!!!! Alois Wiesboc!!! And that make the difference in this heat

Remember watching pc in a speedway match in the 79s at Bradford ideal top he was 16 years old and wow !! Yes he was a brilliant rider

two world champs at the top of their game. apparently egon can sing a bit too!

long track race's in California where held long beach veterans stadium and ascot...recently Ventura has held some long track race's.

WOW. Didn’t take any prisoners did he.

This is way cooler than the tiny tracks.

Long track is a specialised for of speedway racing....,.high speed fast tracks makes for spectacular racing......cheers Barry

@@BarryPrice1959 I'd not seen any long track performances until this video. I'm a bit familiar with short track racers (had a friend who campaigned a Jawa in N.Y. back in the '70s) but it was configured quite differently frame wise. Pretty exciting stuff with Collins letting all hang out here.

Thanks Whalesong999.......yes Longtrack is very popular in Europe, but we do not have any Longtracks in England.......Riders usually travel to Europe (France / Germany ) for longtrack racing...........and Yes Peter Collins was a great rider and was always giving 100% whether on the Speedway track or Longhtrack........Regards Barry

+BeachBoysRemembered Most of the Longtracks are in northern Europe and British riders like Peter Collins would ride these tracks aswell as the usual speedway discipline of the sport.........longtracks are approx 800 - 1000meters in length and the riders often reach speeds of over 100mph

Speedway bikes. I believe it was only once a year and it was the National long track championship. I caught the final one there. Even ran the sidecars. Quite a show. As far as flat trackers I don't know. I imagine they ran 'em a few times as the track would be well suited for them...

I had to look up the year to make sure ... I remember Ted Boody lost his life from injuries sustained on the half at Ascot in 1988 ...

Yes Perter Collins had plenty of 'Bottle'and you could race with him shoulder to shoulder a real 'Legend' in the World of Speedway.

Egal what Muller did Collins have a faster bike and that win the heat!!!

and i thought drag racers was crazy. how big of a cage do they keep those guys in?

,,,,, long tracks - different world.

Blokes riding on high power single cilinder bikes at high speeds without breaks and occasional touching at high speeds. Makes me wonder how they van fit thier balls in leather pants.. These guys are mad in a good way.
