This is an N scale speedometer called SpeedTrap that shows speed in MPH or KPH.. Isn't expensive or that hard to build. Not a lot of wiring required. More info on the web site here....

This one was designed to be curved to work on the 12.5" radius section of track on my test track were I program my locos and speed match them to the throttle and the speed steps shown on the throttle.
Using this method the locos are also speed matched to each other since the all run the same speed on any speed setting on the throttle.
I have a couple wireless WiTcontroller throttles similar to the one shown minus the control stalk that I also use. You can build them or the HandCab, shown, for about $50 and Peter Akers (EngineDriver developer) software on them is outstanding and easy to use.
