4 normal ones and one semi-painted one at the end!
Finished pieces:

I've been a bit slow on the commission work, but that was mainly because I've been busy preparing for my last entrance exam :0 I will know wether I have been accepted on the 25th, but if you're curious about my whole application process - I've written a detailed post about it here: remarin.deviantart.com/journa... I might make some videos on it in the future too.

    Omg I LOVE character 3, with the blue and red/orange. That's such a stunning, beautiful design. I wish I could design like that, but i've always been bleh at character designing. The design is just like... really pretty to look at. The character looks very regal kinda. I'm a sucker for bright and colorful designs. By the way, take a shot every time I say the word "design" in this comment, including that one.

    Well, you could put it this way: you can't make an oil painting if you don't know how brushes work / or how to mix colors. But once you learn that how to use the tools you're working with, then there isn't much more left to it than that. Thus when you get comfortable with your tools, you can go back to improving on that "how to draw" - because after all, in that category there is infintely more room for improvement

    Beautiful as always! I have a quick question, I'm really sorry because you've probably already been asked this so many times, but what brushes and settings to you use to blend and color? you use photoshop right? I also do and I can't find the right brush to blend like in paint tool SAI... thank you so much, I love your work!!

  • @Remarin

    @Remarin

    5 жыл бұрын

    The program I use doesn't have much of an actual blending feature like SAI has. I think the newer version do? But I just make do with colorpicking the color that comes out by drawing over one color with a brush that tapers off in opacity with lesser pen pressure,, and blend "manually". I presume there are packages out there with specifically blending brushes, but you can find the ones I use, here mentioned right in the first question: www.deviantart.com/remarin/journal/FAQ-710732487

    I do :> remarin.deviantart.com/favourites/70489455/BRUSHES I've downloaded the 5 first packs in this folder. The third brush from that pencil-pack is what I use for lineart. And in the fifth pack "KFC", the brush called "fancypants" is what I use for doing shading and the coloring often too. (I like that it has a mix of sharp and soft edges, when used small it's still usable for doing details, and when used bigger you can get gradients - perfect for shading) And for digital painting, like I do in the last one, I use square textured brushes from that first pack, "miekka 1" mostly.

    Love your art but a tip from an artist to artists, there's room for this improvement but I noticed something with two headshots you did, not being negative at all about this I'm being completely positive and truthful, but you seemed to have rushed a tad in them, one being a brown wolf with a light brown\baige tone as chest fur coming up to the neck like tiger stripes and the stripes on the eyes, you could've paid more attention in that detailed area and made it exactly what is was suppose to look like, another headshot was the wolf with half orange face\hair while the rest was a faded blue instead of doing a blue tint you did green which didn't match the commissioners character, no offense but if it was my character I'd be a little disappointed in those detailed areas its major to get detail correct for the customer although they were all super detailed and really good I doubt the owners noticed and was happy with them. But that was just a few tips or criticism (whatever you call it) I noticed and would've fixed, overall amazing work great art and I bet that took like 4-6hours of your time so I'm sure you were tired, amazing job though just felt you needed to know about what I thought cause I would want someone to tel me on what I could Improve on more.

    I appreciate the feedback! Since this video is close to being a year old, I remember it vaguely? I think the first three were done in one session, and the fourth one was done the day after? It does get a bit stressful nearing the end, since I do have to admit that these headshots end up being slightly rushed as a norm. They are supposed to be the „simple“ variation, opposed to the „detailed“ painted ones (take my most recent video as example for those). These „simple“ ones are 15$ after all, and I know over time, Ihave the habit of always trying to add more fancy stuff to make things look more appealing, so in my mind, as long as I‘m still inside that 1 hour per headshot threshold, I know I‘m still good to go. The detailed ones can be anywhere between 2 h 30 and 4 h. So spending more time on the „simple“ ones, would feel unfair towards those paying more for the painted ones, you know? (just to explain my line of thinking) Design accuracy and cleanliness are for me often the first to become a bit sloppy when going for effieceny. I also admit I‘ve always had issues with messing up hues and tint choices when it comes to shading, it‘s a battle between respecting design accuracy and wanting to add pleasing color combinations. The reason I picked a green color scheme for the lightsource for the redfaced one, is to complement the orange-red of the face, which naturally is the main focus. At the time, I was willing to take the blues being green tinted, in favor of a pleasing lighting setting. Though really, I‘ve been battling with the struggle of doing character shading without completely messing up all the base color markings for ages. So many subtle hue variations have gotten lost in my shading method before I finally started to make better choices in shading :‘I

    @@Remarin ahh makes sense, just need practice is all sorry if I seemed negative I meant it in a positive way ya know? And yeah I understand the pain I commissioned for three years then stopped because I was always tired and stressed on due dates and detail and trying the match the artists style somewhat as well in the mix of my own it got to much to handle so now I've been doing art trades, NTA, BTA,OTA, N&BA and things like that to feel or get more motivation, I understand about the color scheme and how long it'd take on details I just wanted you to know that I noticed it instantly and in my brain I was like "oh god, he\she messed up! I gotta help in some way of advice something I'd say to myself on my own art" and so yeah. And I liked the fade green compliment but at the same time I really liked how the Original artist used that faded blue it looked better in a way. But regardless you're still a great artist and I would totally buy art from ya if I had the money or even my PayPal still up, but u fortunately I don't which is sad. And I know its an old bid I just thought it'd be nice to hear some honest criticism. It helps me out as an artists to get feed back on what to improve on and stuff :\

    What exactly is a commission?

  • @Remarin

    @Remarin

    6 жыл бұрын

    A commission is what an artist offers for other people in exchange for monetary payment, by "commissioning" an artist you pay them to draw something for you. On online platforms, the commission is usually something like a drawing/illustration of a character,, depending on what the artist is comfortable with, it can also be designing character/logos or you could even commission a whole art-project (comic book etc). You could also "commission" a musician to compose a song for you,, but the defining trait is usually that it's in exchange for payment. It can be considered part of the artistic job "freelancer", where you look for your own clients, choose your own prices, and jump from project to project instead of having a steady paycheck like you'd have if you worked for a studio. Searching for "art commission" on either youtube or google, should lead you to more in-depth videos on the topic if you're curious.

  • @dogearmy4393

    @dogearmy4393

    Remarin so does that payment have to always be money?

  • @Remarin

    @Remarin

    6 жыл бұрын

    Well, if you're not being paid, then it's usually no longer called a commission. What you're drawing then is either a "gift/fanart", a "request" or an "art trade". The first is done without being asked to - something just to brighten up someone's day,, the second you'll need to check if the artist is even accepting requests in the first place,, some artists do something like "request sessions" where they'll temporarily draw for free,, and the last you exchange art for art, hence "trade" which is also something not every artist does and you have to check beforehand. You could also get art by hosting a contest/challenge, but there should be some kind of compensation for the contest winners. For me, drawing commissions is currently my only source of income, so yeah, due to the process of slowly stepping into the world of adults, I prefer being paid for the time I spend not working some random job, but rather drawing someone's character. So that I can save-up for big-people expenses.... like a car..... or university education.... or future rent :'3
