Speed Worm at Lake Toho to Find Bass during the Spawn

Спорт

The Speed Worm is a great way to located transitioning Bass during the Spawn. It's a lure that's commonly used on Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. I usually rig it with like a Texas Rig with an 1/8 ounce bullet weight and a 4/0 offset wide gap hook. Braided line or mono... That's your choice.
On another note... DEFINITELY NOT MY BEST VIDEO! I again had some major sound issues that I did not realize while recording. Because of this, I almost scrapped this whole video. I'm getting that worked out for future videos.
As always...

Do you use the Superline EWG or the regular wire EWG on your speed worm?

Wil D usually the regular ewg. You just have to be careful about how hard you set the hook

Great video Chuck! Cant believe the cold fronts this year just rolling in back to back! Those speed worms are a great search bait at times like these when a more conventional bait like a trap are almost useless since they wont chase a bait. Love the mindset and am amazed with the quality bites that this bait offers. Have caught more than half of my double digits on this bait and sometimes is very hard to put down. Will say at times, its just a dinkfest and have to adjust a little to figure it out.

I’d consider Toho clear vs the lake I fish. Can’t see bottom past 2 ft and max depth I’ve found is 11. Can’t hardly find them right now. Nothing deeper than 6ft. 6-8” on shoreline. Three trips and nothing over 3 lbs. This rainy front followed by super cold weather is gonna mess them up again too!

Chuck Pippin might be something to do with American eels and snakes here in CFL. I’ve seen quite a few eels in Conway, buddy of mine got bit by a snake in a bass’ mouth two weeks ago too. Same size as a speed worm

Got a question for you since we are fishing the same waters. Lately my bites have been on the outside edge of the grassline with a spinnerbait on the drop or stopping the retrieve and letting it drop. I have tried Traps and Spoons with literally no luck with the same approach, any suggestions of what other bait might work as well or better? Unfortunately for me lately the speed worm is still catching but not the quality that im after.

  • @ChuckPippinBassFishing

    @ChuckPippinBassFishing

Tim Prall yeah, the trap bite isn’t happening for me either. If it’s calm, I’m just throwing a Texas rigged worm. It’s been kinda tough with the weather changes. Not a lot of exciting baits working right now.

@@ChuckPippinBassFishing Thank you for your reply, been kind of a weird year so far. Have felt like I have caught some spawners last month and now they seemed to be transitioned to the outside grass line. Hoping we get a little consistent weather for a bit to help them make up their mind. Again, thank you

Spawn that early down there? Wow. I could see the bed early on in the vid too. Launched the boat 2 days ago in 37* temps. Water was 48*. Fishing a 6' June bug finesse worm and couldn't even get a bump. All damn day. We did end up picking up a few sac-a-lait though. Even worked the middle of the bayous thinking they might still be deep (5-7ft) and still nothing. Louisiana boy threw a sac back???!!! Gotta be a transplant...not really FROM Louisiana...lol.

Taylor Blondeel Well, you’ve obviously never been on a guide trip with me. I’ve done well over 5,000 guide trips in my career and I’m sure I’ve got it figured out a little better than your 10 minute evaluation from watching an edited video.

Taylor Blondeel Have to remember how the electronics work too. SI and DI only show what you’ve already run over. So chuck can pinpoint where a fish is and tell them where to cast. Minus hydrilla patches where he knows the fish always are.

Chuck Pippin I’ve watched more than 10 minutes of your videos, from the hours of your videos I’ve watched, Your guide service is more like being a co angler in a tournament. You get to catch fish, but the boater(captain) gets all the first shots at the fish. Or maybe I’m wrong, and the clients big fish was just not put into the edited version 🤔

  • @ChuckPippinBassFishing

Taylor Blondeel Lol geez. Well, thanks for watching I guess. That’s definitely not how it goes on my guide trips. Only the best shots/angles that I get on camera make it to the video. Only a fraction of the fish we catch ever make it to the video, and my customers always come first. If this wasn’t the case, I’d have plenty of bad reviews online. And after 21 years, I still don’t have any. A lot of my customers want me to fish with them so they can learn from what I’m doing. A lot of the time, I’m giving them the best casts and first shots at stuff. Other times, I’m trying out different lures while their using lures I already know are working.
