Speed up Your Projects: Faster Project Delivery

Do you want to speed up your projects and get faster project delivery?
Of course you do.
In this video, I'll show you how.
How can you speed up delivery of your projects?
That's a question I often get asked. Everyone want things sooner.
But it's reasonable that they should. Projects deliver benefits, and the earlier they arrive, the more value they have.
To speed your project along, you need silky-smooth project processes.
And you also need teams who know what they're doing. Investing in your project infrastructure may feel like creating a delay at the start of your project. But the truth is that it sets you up to succeed.
The Biggest Rewards
The start of your project is where you can calibrate your speed settings. The biggest rewards come from a strong Definition stage.
Your Stakeholders are Paramount
Project Managers often spend too little time working with stakeholders at the start. As a result, you lose time later on, picking up the pieces from poor initial communication.
So, engage with a wide cross-section of stakeholders, to determine what they want and need. The more work you do at this stage, the more solid your project base will be. And with this foundation, planning will be easier and quicker. This also means delivery will be smoother. And, with a clear definition from Day 1, there will be less wasted work.
Negotiation is the Key
So, negotiate more time for the discovery and definition phases of your projects. Too many projects over-run. This means stress for the teams, cost for the organization, and frustration for their clients.
And if you lead your organization, create a culture that puts the priority on this stage. Expect you Project Managers to do it really well. And make sure your Project Directors, sponsors, and project boards scrutinize these definitions.
No one likes to find a gap or a contradiction in their work. But the sooner you do, the less impact it will have on delivery.
Sometimes, it pays to go slow to speed up!

Good insight. My study plan today included PDM and leads/lags. I was thinking this would be a video on how to exploit leads in the project, but this is a much more fundamental and impactful approach. Thanks, Mike!

Thank you, Bruce. You have spotted - my Thursday videos tend to be straight-up PM information. My Tuesday vids are more often thoughts, insights, ideas that don't necessarily follow the basics - although often, like this one, they really are fundamental. PS: That said, over the high summer period (northern hemisphere), there will be a few weeks of just one video a week. Holidays!
