    About expanding your color pallete, you don’t need to buy a big set at once. Instead, see what color you constantly mix or wish that you had and buy only a few colors that you need most. Paint for a while and buy more color if you need them.

    So true. I am all about using limited color palettes and I would love to do a video on limited palettes for pan pastels. Thanks for the great idea! Sorry for the super late response. I took an extended KZread break, but Im back and just posted a new video today if you are interested: Become a MASTER of Color Theory with This COMPLETE 4 Step Process kzread.info/dash/bejne/X2GhlNqNeqnbdLA.html :) Happy New Year!!

    very helpful video, especially tip # 5. I love using Museum Aquarelle pencils, but do get frustrated at the limited color range. Mixing media has been a godsend for me. I make all the family birthday cards which takes a great deal of time, i've found watercolor paint or watercolor pencils make a great base layer, as does the really soft Derwent drawing pencil.

    Thanks so much for watching. I love the museum aquarelles too. Have you tried inktense pencils and blocks? They are fairly similar but might offer some other color options. Are there any mixed media demos you would be interested in me doing in a future video?

    Hi Lana, I just found your channel and am so pleased. Your tips and demonstrations are straightforward and extremely helpful. This video and the video where you are drawing an otter, popped up in my feed right when I needed them the most! Amazing! You are my new "go to" channel for colored pencil art. I am 64 and have been drawing for just about 2 years now. In the beginning I drew like a little kid. I trained myself through tutorials and have already sold a few pieces. However, I have a long way to go. Speeding up my work and not focusing on the minutia is important to me! I had the idea, myself, of working on more than one piece at a time when I found this video. Perfect! THANK YOU!

    This was a great video, Lana! Thank you for all your time and effort. Do you find that creating a base layer (with whatever medium) specifically on Lux Archival paper reduces the amount of "fall off" or dust when you apply the pencil on top?

  • @LanaGloschatArt

    @LanaGloschatArt

    2 жыл бұрын

    For me a waxier pencil reduces fall off mor than anything else. I get fall out with polychromos, but very little when I use luminance. PanPastels probably increase the amount of fallout (because of their powdery nature) but a water soluble medium like inktense doesn’t seem to effect it one way or the other. I can’t think of any medium to use as a base coat that would reduce the fall out. But luckily the lixarxhival is pretty good for this and fall out is minimal!

    merci pour votre video, je serais interessé sur des conseils d une couche de base rapide compatible avec des crayons de couleur, j aime beaucoup le niveau de detail des crayons de couleurs mais je trouve tres fastidueux la lenteur du travail avec, du coup je fais que des dessins de petites tailles c est dommage!

    I did some underpainting a with watercolor and watercolor pencils tonight with my in-person class and it was so fun. I will have to plan a video showing this process. It certainly speeds up the process and is a fun alternative to the PanPastels. Thanks so much for your thoughts and for watching!

    Just a little FYI _ I know French pronunciation is not always easy but the Mi-teintes paper is pronounced like “Me-Tant” (rhymes with Ant). Ignore the letter ‘s’ on the end. It is silent.

    I had no idea you could stain sanded paper…Did you just use water with those pastels? I’m so curious about mixing coloured pencils and pastels. I prefer dry media but am much more experienced with watercolour/ink, haven’t figured out how to work on larger scales with dry media though.

  • @LanaGloschatArt

    @LanaGloschatArt

    I typically stain my paper with watercolor pencils, inktense blocks or another water soluble media. I discuss the process along with picking color, building up value, and in depth color theory/color matching, in my course. There is a free preview of the course here: courses.lanagloschatart.com/courses/introduction-to-classical-colored-pencil-painting. Working larger with dry media can be time consuming, but mixing pencils with pastel and other media can speed up the process. I am glad you found my channel! Please feel free to reach out with questions any time!
