It was directed by the same people who directed the matrix. so it was well inhead of its time with its combination of cgi, visual effects and live action performance similar to the matrix movies. It could not have been in better hands for the time.

tatsunoko has done two cameos with speed since this, one you can find on KZread, the other is in a big crossover anime with a new art style, unfortunately I'm not sure what the anime names are as I write this, but the mach 5 still roars. edit; The names are yatterman and Pandora to akubi.

The movie is extremely underrated. They messed up a little on the marketing, but i think it is ultimately the colors and animation style that disoriented the average movie goer. Minus thar the story and action was brilliant

It was the first movie the Wachowski's made after The Matrix so everyone kinda just wanted more Matrix. You also have to enjoy the cartoonish ridiculousness of this movie. It's fun and silly and light-hearted and that's just not what we expected from the Wachowski's. We wanted more intense intellectual violence using the latest visuals and this is the exact opposite of that. But once you watch it without that expectation, it's a movie that blends live action with animation with the same skill of Roger Rabbit. And personally it's nice to see Susan Sarandon getting back to her experimental roots

Most underrated movie of all time. Seriously. Unfortunately the high animation and color choices threw average movie goers off. Plus the lack of marketing.

Speed Racer is the way a Racing Battle Royale should be done. I mean, You have Weapon-like upgrades, Fast as f*ck cars, Incredibly tricky and dangerous pilots. I forgot to add that over the top feeling that I love on certain type of games.

I remember seeing this movie once when it came out in theaters as a kid. Sadly, I forgot that it even existed until, like, a year or two ago. After watching this AMV & another Speed Racer AMV featuring "The Top" from Initial D, I gotta find a way to rewatch this thing. It looks super fun, I remember seeing it, but I forgot literally everything about this movie plot-wise & character-wise.

Yea I also watched when I was a kid not in theaters though. I ended up buying it from a library and iv had it ever sense. I recently remembered about it and wanted to rewatch it to see what I would think now that I'm older. Had to tear apart my whole movie collection it was a mess. But I did find it and it still played just fine even with the scratches here and there causing concern

I also watched this movie when I was a kid to it actually helped me into racing like off-road and street racing in videogames and especially hot wheels games and movies because those are great and the NFS games helped and the Duke's of Hazzard TV show and movies I had the tv show on DVD and the movies to but I had a massive Scooby Doo collection of movies like a half a case of 800 movies and half of them were Scooby doos like the DVD version of the original Scooby Doo from 1969 all the way up to 2010 I had that many Scooby Doo movies 400 different Scooby Doos and I had them in order of the year I started with the DVD version of the 1969 Scooby Doos all the way up to the movies most of the cartoons worked flawlessly even though it was really scratched only Scooby Doo I can remember not working was Scooby Doo 2 where all there villains costumes come alive and sadly this movie was so scratched it wouldn't play to and I liked it for it's cars I was always into cars and this movie was probably one of the many reasons Im into cars

In that first race, Speed wasn’t racing the other drivers, he was racing Rex, very nice visual story telling there :)

I remember seeing this movie when it first aired in the movie theater and I absolutely loved every second of it and as a grown man I can safely say IT STILL ROCKS!!

I never thought this was even remembered

Loved this movie as a kid... kind of want to go and rewatch it now Update: I did. And not gonna lie, now that I actually understand all the "adult talk" with the business stuff and whatnot, it seems even better than I remember it being

This is stil the most accurate live action conversion of an anime ever.

This movie was ahead of its time in animation, like holy cow this is ridiculously good animation for 2008. I still have the DS game too lol.

@@Alzfer not only that,but the thing is,it's so close and based on the source material, people always complain about the eye candy and saturation of colors when that's how the original anime was,over the top and active,tho clunky it was fun,and the backgrounds are a love letter to cell animation,the animation type they chose for the original anime,it's an absolute piece of art and master piece with a simple yet emotional story,scenes,colors,characters,to me,it's one of the greatest films of all time, period. Original. And revolutionary. Speed racer is THE perfect racing movie,and one of the greatest films in history,hands down.

Nicely done. I watched speed racer as a kid, lots of great nostalgia🥰

Somehow we managed to have and preserve a disk of this movie. So many time have I watched it when I was young. Gonna rewatch it again after seeing this.

I literally remember seeing this movie for the first time on tv back in 2008 or 2009. A different movie my parents were watching had just ended, and I wasn’t paying much attention. That changed once the first race started. From that moment, my eyes were glued to the screen right up to the credits. I even genuinely cheered when the last race ended. I’d never heard of the show before then - heck, i wasn’t even out of elementary school - but from the moment I saw that first race scene, I loved it. Unfortunately, as I started into middle school, I started to forget about this movie, and by the time I started high school, i couldn’t tell you a single thing about this movie, despite having watched it easily 25-30 times. Now, im a recent college graduate, browsing youtube at 1:00 am, and i see this video in my recommended. I see the title of the video and think “that seems…familiar…” Then, i see the thumbnail, and instantly, the memories from 13-14 years ago hit me like a truck.

Something I’d like to add: the supercars in the Speed Racer series have 360 steering, meaning all four wheels can be swiveled a full 360 degrees, similarly to the front wheels on shopping carts. This allows them to be able to move perpendicular to the direction they’re facing, and to perform 360 degree spins with full control, which we see several times throughout the movie. Not only has this idea never been explored in-depth outside the Speed Racer franchise to my knowledge, but there are vehicles in real life with similar steering systems. The biggest example of a real vehicle with this steering is a crane used to load containers onto trucks. These vehicles utilize electric motors to turn the drive wheels, and unfortunately because of this, these vehicles aren’t particularly fast. However, in theory, it _could_ be possible to build a high-speed vehicle with this style of steering. So, while the gadgets like jump-jacks, deployable buzz saws, and foam ejection systems are kinda unrealistic, the cars themselves _technically_ could work in real life.

Must’ve watched this movie 50 times start to finish. It’s badass. It’s cheesy. It’s emotional. It’s got thrill. It’s got glamour. It’s got heart. The whole selection. And even gets tears from me during the last part of the Cosmopolis GP This video is also masterfully edited. In time with the music and uses all the best movie bits. And I do like the Maltese Ice Caves bit. Thumbs up from this derg 👍

The thing that I liked most with this movie was the fact that too much was going for your brain to process all of it at once and the visuals are so amazing that you just can't get enough of it and it makes it feel like that 1h movie was a whole 10h series with all that was happening

I loved this movie it was so good

The music fit in so well I could watch this all day

Imagine this movie as a 90’s kid’s dream. It’s Hot Wheel’s combined with The Fast and The Furious. Love this 👍👍

This song and this movie pair so well. This video shows every reason I loved this movie as a child, and still do to this very day.

This movie and ones like it and the despicable me series I feel is like the definition of "popcorn movie". Just sit down, enjoy the movie, and let 1.5 - 2 hours go by. And as much as it may be colorful, to my memory, it's not insulting to adults that still wanna watch it compared to something like the live action cat in the hat.

As a child I had small race cars of this and they where my favourites

I watched the cartoon as a kid and liked it and felt the movie did it justice, keeping to the plot elements and updating it to be more modern. May have overdone it with CGI in spots, but you needed it to make the kinds of races they needed for Speed Racer.

I loved Speed Racer as an anime and this movie is still one of my all time favorites. I can't put into words exactly how i felt watching this movie in the theater with the loud sounds and the colors. The over the top car races and funny little jokes. But i will tell you one thing, this movie was the perfect representation of what car racing was like in my head when i set up a team of my favorite hot wheels or matchbox cars as a kid. When you see children crashing their toy cars together making loud engine sounds with crashes and explosions, this might be a movie to watch in order to have a small understanding of the power in a kids imagination. This is my childhood and i know lots of people probably hated Speed Racer but i loved it and always will. i will always be glad that i was around when they tried and made this movie. Great AMV my friend i love it. The music fits this type of movie perfectly. But most of all thank you for bringing back memories of a simpler time. I will rewatch this movie and experience the awe i did as a kid. Because in todays world i think we all need that sense of wonder and amazement we felt as kids. To bring back feelings of something we all forgot. How to have fun 👍👍👍

I have been rewatching this video over and over this entire week I can't get the music out of my head, this edit is so fucking perfect it works so well with the scenes, I need to rewatch this movie.

Watching this brings back memories I never knew I had.

I freaking love this movie, it's over saturated with color, the plot is convoluted, the car kung fu is over the top. it's as if they toke the classic anime brought it into the 2000's then said F-it live action movie instead of anime.

Now here's a blast to my 8 year old past. I loved this movie as kid although the surprisingly grounded plot went right over my head at the time but god damn was this movie a spectacle.

This movie is STILL one of my most favorites from my childhood to this day. Hardly any other movies I see today is on that list.

This movie was before its time. Did CGI and live action 100%

I loved how funny it was and how action packed it was as well. God do I miss being a kid again

I seriously dont know why this was so criticized on USA because when this hit my country, it was an absolute blast. Every single child went to see it the first week, every single child (both men and women) wanted or had a toy from the movie, every single child with those electric cars for kids played with them as if they were on the movie, even playing with hotwheels and matchbox HAD to be like on the movie. Even my parents found it funny and interesting (and that is something, because my mom cannot stand bright colors). For my part, I still love the movie. It is for kids but with a mature message for both parents and children alike. It does not treat kids like stupids and that is really hard to do with anything aimed at them.

Been awhile since I've seen this movie. I remember how most people didn't like it because of marketing and the absolute corniness that was put in, but despite that there were moments of pure enjoyment that kids and even adults could reflect on. The biggest one being the last race and those moments of flashbacks with the parents interactions with Speedy had throughout the movie leading up to it. That stood out to me the most, even the other races really didn't have that big of an impact as that race and the events transpiring throughout it.
