Watch to find out!

So pleased with my time as this was quite a bit more tricky image than the colourful houses of Aarhus, Denmark. My back wasn't too sore either. Thanks so much for watching! Please consider subscribing 💜🧩

Nice job!!!! If I'm working on the sky of a puzzle, I will spin the foam board around to make the sky closer to me. I also sort by shape when I'm stuck. And another thing I do if I get stuck is sit at another part of the table to get a different perspective. I do that esp when I'm working with other ppl. I remember a puzzle I was working on with my mother in law during a beach vacation and we both got stuck. We switched seat and we just found so many more the other person couldnt find. The brain is an amazing thing. Stress kills alot of brain cells so I try to work on jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books like word search or fill ins. Great video! Cant wait to see how you do in Feb!!

I definitely need to use all sides of the table when at the competition. My setup at home doesn't really allow me to do so. Thanks for watching and commenting 💜🧩

You’re doing so well with these puzzles. It seems like a really hard work doing a 1000pcs in one go 😅 I really hope you do well in the competition 🥰

Thank you! I wish it was just a 500 piece because yes, 1000 pieces in one go is a lot. It's a marathon rather than a sprint. 💜🧩

@@fortheloveofpuzzles I think with a 1000 pcs your body starts aching as well because you're in the same position for so long 😬

Interesting that it was a hard one as when I saw the box I thought "piece of cake". Well I guess you can't judge a book by its cover. I find Hinkler pieces quite thin but there's something about them that works. I've done a number of their Mindbogglers series.

I haven't seen their Mindbogglers series - will have look up. They are thinner for sure but for the price, I would definitely buy more. 💜🧩

I have recently done a 1000 piece Hinkler Books puzzle and am now doing a 1500 piece Hinkler one. Yes the pieces are quite thin however they do hold together well. I cannot do a puzzle upside down at all 😄 My mum is 84 and has been puzzling all her life. She never ever sorts her pieces, does the edges first and keeps all the pieces in the box the right way up. She doesn't understand why people sort 😄 I sort as I go along not at the beginning. We all have different techniques.

I love how everyone has a different way to approach a puzzle. Just goes to show how our brains work differently. Imagine trying to do a puzzle only using your non-dominant hand?! It would take me an hour to just get one piece into place. I tried brushing my teeth with my left hand once - never again!! 💜🧩

I usually start with edges, but lately I've noticed that that's not always helpful. In quite a few puzzles edge pieces tend to be dark and quite monotonous in shades, and that takes a decent amount of time to assemble. So I'll probably very soon start not doing edge pieces first (though I think it still makes sense to sort them separately, just for the sake of more sorting piles for convenience). Also, 4 and a half hour is about the time it takes me to do 500 piece puzzles, so I'm very impressed with these times, even if they don't look as top-notch for the competition context.

I agree, the edge pieces are good to have sorted but often are not all that helpful to start with - especially if there is a repeating pattern. I do wish more competitions did individual 1000 piece puzzles so I had an idea of how I compare. Thanks for watching and commenting. 💜🧩

It would be so comical if on the day of the competition you find out it's one of the puzzles you've practiced with, what are the odds of that? Still loving your content. Everything about your channel is so relaxing. Thank you for the joy.

Thank you - I do try to keep my videos simple and relaxing - no drama here apart from the odd moan in the background from Thora! hehehehe I'm assuming that they would have made a custom puzzle or asked one of our manufacturers (Holdson, Piece House,...) to provide them with an unreleased puzzle. But you never know! If it's one that I already practiced, I'd feel bad about doing it. Then again, of I managed to get my hands on it, most likely the other NZ puzzlers would have also - we have limited selection at times. 💜🧩

That was a good time Donnalouise! I found the voice over interesting. I have worked puzzles upside-down, usually my higher piece count puzzles as I have them on a big table that I can puzzle from all sides. I have not completed a puzzle upside-down from start to finish, that sounds like a fun challenge.

Strange, that you need to be at least 35 years old. I looked at some of the other events and for some you just need to be over 20. They are looking for only 25 participants, so I suppose they can limit the number of people who might be interested in attending.

I think they've lowered the ages on some events over time or added more age categories. This is believe only the second time that there is jigsaw racing. I do wonder if they get a lot of applicants??? I'd love to see a team event and even a pairs. 💜🧩
