    I really love all the videos about speed puzzling all you ladies are uploading- I cannot wait to see what you will accomplish at World's. The frustrating part is, that I won't be able to come and watch you. I so wished to be able to come and meet you, but I am off to Stockholm then. I completely agree with the last 2 points you made- have fun and don't have any expectations. This is our hobby, we are here to have a pleasant time solving a puzzle and forget our worries for a bit. So I hope you have a lot of fun!

    OMG OMG OMG I’m starting to freak out!! Spain is just over a month away! I feel we are very comparable when it comes to times - we both have such a wide range of times as well. I found that Floral Reflections rather tricky - a lot more difficult than I expected. I also found Garden Visitors tricky and the colours were so muted. I notice you also mostly use just your right hand. I have gotten better at using two hands. I’d love to get my hands on those postcard puzzles. That Polygon Lion puzzle is next level - I can’t see getting that as an individual level but maybe pairs preliminary. You did awesome to finish in under 2 hours. Great practice runs and I can’t wait to puzzle with you all in Spain! 💜🧩

    I know!! I’m freaking out on a daily basis now 😆. I agree, we are very similar in times - Judy too. I am having real trouble breaking that hour barrier though! I keep wondering what else I can possibly do to get faster!! I agree, Polygon Lion is a touch difficult to speed run, although Judy did a great job on it! Sometimes I think a lot depends on the method I use. 😍 I am so looking forward to seeing you all, it’s going to be such a blast!

    Just wondering if you look at the timer when you're speed puzzling and if that adds to the stress. I've noticed that when I do timed puzzles (sudoku not jigsaws), if I can see the time ticking away, I start focusing on the time rather than the puzzle. Perhaps try putting your device face down, once you start the timer and see if that makes a difference.

  • @Vickymakesandbuilds

    I think maybe awareness of the timer ticking away does effect my performance a little, but also my stress levels. I will try that face down timer approach - thank you! 😃

    That was interesting to watch as I also try practicing when I have the time. It’s nice that you try different techniques too, I think you’re doing really well! I am still in two minds about standing. I thought i’d never do it again, but I keep wondering if I should retry. This was such a lovely video, it's a pity I didn't notice it earlier! ❤️ I have that same problem: the last pieces are the most difficult for me! 😅 I also came to the conclusion that shape sorting in the end is the way, but I ALSO chicken out way too often!! 🤣 And when I do sort by shape, I just throw the pieces in piles and they are not organized neatly at all and then I keep thinking if all the pieces of this shape are here or maybe some are in other piles... 😄 So yes, I definitely have to practise the shape sorting. 🙂 Thank you so much for this video and best of luck to you! ❤️ (My own goal is to someday finish a puzzle in under 90 minutes... 🤣)

    You did very well Vicky, some perfectly respectable times. Yes, some puzzles will be harder by virtue of the image, the polygon lion was one. 🦁 I think from videos you have done, sorting is your preferred method. There will be some puzzles where sorting becomes tedious because the image is too busy. Shape sorting is usually best done towards the end of the puzzle. A good tactic if there is a large area of one colour, e.g. sky. As you have already said, don't give yourself any expectations. Just get the puzzle done in the best way you can and practise some breathing techniques to calm yourself. Above all, enjoy yourself in Spain with Donna Louise, Jubie and Janette. ✨🧩🧩

    Hi Vicky! I think it's great you're practicing. To be honest, I also have no idea how Alejandro can build a puzzle within like 30 min or so. It's unimaginable for me... I also cannot get below 1h mark 😞 I'm going to the competition as well. For me, it kind of goes down to knowing the image. If I know what is where, the puzzle goes faster. I've actually never really tried a full sort of a puzzle. I usually turn all the pieces over, separate the edges (if it makes sense), and the rest of the pieces I lay around like a rainbow and just grab specific pieces I need as I go. I definitely need to try sorting everything first. Maybe it would speed up the process. Anyway, I doubt I am going to have a great time in the individual round, but, in pairs I actually do pretty well with my partner... I'm sorry you can't practice with Jubie (in real). I met with my puzzling partner only 2 times. We also live far away from each other (though, in the same country). So, it's challenging to meet. I don't have any tips for you as far as the individual competition goes, but, do talk to Jubie and figure out what she does fast compared to you and which of you does better puzzling upside down. Figure out some strategies... Also, for the teams event - the same. I could meet with my team only once but, fortunately, it was enough to figure out each other's strengths and weaknesses. I know you can't meet with your team, but do talk about some strategies. It might be helpful when the time comes 🙂I wish you all the best, Vicky! And I keep my fingers crossed that we both manage to build a puzzle in less than an hour at least once before Spain. Marta (from @marta.puzzles)

    Interesting video, yet again - very well structured! I also did several puzzles lately but I am not sure if I manage to get a nice overview video (like yours) out soon... For me, I have the "problem" that all techniques seem to work the same for me (same good or same bad, depending on how you want to see it). Depending on my mood I do full flip, full sort, building out of the box, build-as-I-sort,.. and I always achieve similar times. Nothing gives me a hint which might be my strength. My methods are not even dependent on the type of puzzle - at least I have no concious idea of when to use what strategy. I will probably go with my gut feeling even at Worlds, I think. Full flip is quite likely, though. Do you already know the video on the preparation for Worlds made by "Puzzle with Emilia" from Finland? She has a very scientific approach - that was very interesting for me. 🙂

  • @Vickymakesandbuilds

    @Vickymakesandbuilds

    10 ай бұрын

    I just watched Emilia’s video on that today! I thought it was really good, real food for thought - I went out and bought some smaller puzzles and a 1k on the strength of that video. I will try everything to get my speeds up a bit as I do get frustrated at times when there is no obvious improvement 😊. I wish I was equally good at all methods too, although I can see how that would make it difficult to ascertain which to use for what kind of puzzle. Go with your gut I suppose, as you say, or just what you prefer 😃
