Speed camera stealth jammer teardown - with schematic

Ғылым және технология

A very affordable device that jams any speed or red light camera, allowing you to floor it at all times with utter disregard for human life. In reality, this device could cost you your driving licence as it does NOT stop any camera or radar device from clocking your vehicle.
Like many of the other scam products sold online it is a completely different product (in this case a fake car alarm) that is re-themed to entice people to part with their hard earned cash.
I'd guess the sellers would also play the usual game of trying to avoid refunding, or if sold on a dedicated website, might try to scam you out of more - assuming they haven't already harvested your card details.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm
This also keeps the channel independent of KZread's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

No more effective than hanging a CD on a rear view mirrors, and people in Poland did this in the '90s believing they could trick speed cams.

@@psirvent8 RADAR doesn't really work like that. And your license plate is to far away from the rear view mirror for the CD to cause enough reflected light to obscure it. I imagine you would need a laser-dazzler like what military (and now cargo planes) used to blind certain missile types. Those work by overwhelming the sensor, or in some cases if the laser is strong enough it can burn it out.

Clive, this device is even more fiendish and advanced than you think! It knows when it's the view of a camera and it has engaged it's stealth camouflage mode. It only *looks* like a fake alarm flasher LED while you've got the camera pointed at it, or are just observing it. Look away, and it reverts to its "real" appearence, that once actived, no can can observe. It's like like advanced combination of the HHGTTG "Some Else's Problem (SEP) Field" and the Weeping Angels. Now that you've assulted it, I fear what will become of you when you sleep. Be safe.

True LiDAR jammers cost well over $500 USD today and are comprised of a series of detector-emitter modules placed in key locations on one’s car all tied back to a central logic module mounted inside the car. The embittered used on the outside modules utilize high power IR laser emitter diodes that only come on for several seconds to allow one to brake check the idiots tailgating your vehicle. Most modern LiDAR units have countermeasure detectors built in so you would probably be stopped and have your vehicle inspected. I cannot believe some people would fall for this quackery.

The camera system looks for known speed and traffic camera models that it recognises. The laser is then aimed at the lens of the traffic camera and sends a strong pulsing signal beam while you are within range. This beam dazzles the lens and looks like sun glare "white out" on the photo and video. GPS camera map is also used for known camera locations. Laser may damage the eye sight of anyone looking out of a window in an apartment or office in the line of sight of the laser beam. May also damage the eye sight of anyone on the upper deck of a tall bus by the window, especially if you're stuck in traffic and the traffic camera reflection is reflected on a bus window. Speed cameras usually utilize radar instead of LiDAR for determining speed. LiDAR requires careful aiming at a reflective surface on a moving vehicle since the beam pattern is very very narrow. Speed cameras utilize conventional radar since it does not require such a narrow beam to measure speed. There are several issues with speed cameras, when you have multiple vehicles heading in the same direction to or from the "camera" it becomes more difficult to lock into one vehicle. The second issue is when was the speed sensing device calibrated? Having worked on various manufacturers radar units in the radio shop I worked in, most all manufacturers require someone to run a quick calibration check of the units at the beginning and end of one’s shift with a set of calibrated tuning forks. Technically this should be entered into a local log book kept within the police cruiser. Another document that is to be kept in the police cruiser is the annual or semi annual certification of calibration of both the radar unit and the tuning forks. Anyone who is stopped for speeding has a right to ask for the certification of calibration of the equipment. These. Certifications must be conducted by an authorized repair facility with equipment that also have traceable calibrations issued by a licensed NIST depot. So it’s a chain of evidence that must remain in place should an individual question the accuracy of the radar unit that may have read the speed. I have seen cases where the "offender" argues the citation in court and the issuing department cannot provide the document requested by the offender and the cases are dismissed. I have even been stopped by a department for speeding and when I asked the officer to see the readings on the radar I presented him with my credentials and proceeded to conduct a test of his equipment with a set of certified tuning forks. Of the two times stopped their radar units failed in establishing an accurate test. Then looking at the log book of the radar device it was several months past calibration testing. Now it’s not cheap but I maintain tuning forks for the following bands used in the USA, X, K, Ka bands. In Europe they use frequencies within these band ranges BUT on slightly different frequencies which does matter when preforming calibration tests. I would personally ask for the log books of the radar units in question including the logs of the speed cameras that may have "issued" the ticket.

It depends a lot on what speed cameras they are using. I can only speak on what is common in Germany, but I highly doubt those devices are exclusive for Germany. You are right, the traditional mobile device is using a radar and the doppler effect. But the certifications, calibration protocols and more or less the chain of evidence has to be presented on demand also here. Although I am not sure if they have to carry all the equipment or only the paperwork. Also usually you get the ticket and then can request the documents and check for inconsistencies or incorrect calibration of mobile units, which is what lawyers specialiced on speeding tickets usually do first. By the way, in Germany speed controlls are done not only by the police, but mostly by the local regulatory office, rules are the same anyways. There are of course the laser pistol devices used by the police, which are aimed manually, so they are standing on the side of the road, no picture, the look straight at you and your license plate. a newer device uses a bar with tubes on top, housing colour / light intensity sensors. Those are currently the most advanced, that bar is set up parallel to the road and those are certified to measure across multiple lanes, being able to distinguish the lanes and can even handle slight curves. again nothing a RF jammer would hurt, unless the electronics shut down due to the jamming. And then on for example the Autobahn, there is still the posibility the police follows you in a specially equipped vehicle with video documentation. Ah, so many options. Oh, and then there are the stationary speed and red light cameras. Using inductive loops in the road or for some rare newer models, indeed a LiDAR. the latter usually can be recognized as a grey round column with dark red bands on them. Some with some sort of facettes on them. Those are mean ones. set up correctly, which on stationary devices you can assume to at least 99.9%, one of those can handle both directions, multiple lanes and if there is a certain amount of curve. But, and I think that is valid across the globe, I wonder who else might come down on you, if you drive around a RF jamming device, emitting relatively high powered RF noise signals that can wreak havoc on any sorts of electronics, wireless commnications etc. I bet the national regulatory agencies for radio frequencies and stuff (In Germany the Bundesnetzagentur, in the UK I think that would be Ofcom, just pick your countries agency) would be very interested in you running such a device. Plus, if it has enough power to disturb the electronics of a speed camera, I wonder if any modern computer on wheels, uhm, car that is, would have a fun day at all and even start.

Here in Australia, they haven't used mobile Radar camera's for years. All LiDAR. Poliscans and Jenoptik brand. They did have Multinova's in the early 2000's that utilized Ka band radar, as well as handheld. I don't think I've seen a handheld radar gun for years, those are also LiDAR AFAIK...

The UK Police Forces use the Prolaser 4 Laser Speed detection device. If you did fit a Laser diffuser to your vehicle, the Laser gun will just come up with an error code 04/07? RFI detected. I had a "tech savvy" friend who was an electrician as well, musically talented, knew most DAWs like his pockets, was a multi-instrumentalist, and taught me a lot music-wise... and claimed to know a lot about computers and automation... but once I tried to explain RAID to him, or how to build a LAN for a studio project where only one computer had internet... I could have tried to explain that stuff to a goat just as well. A few times on road trips, my satnav alerted me of cameras, and he went to ask if it knew the spots by the "radar rays"... quite a few times I explained to him that the satnav only knows pre-programmed camera locations, and most stationary cam traps (in our area anyway) only have two inductive sensors under the tarmac, and the time between passing the two sensors is calculated back to the speed (or to your presence too far inside the crossing on red lights), no "radar rays" involved, while those traps with "radar rays" are mobile, and can't be pre-programmed, and either way, alerting the driver when on the loops or in the "rays" would be too late... well, I could have kneaded that in his face till the cows come home, and he would have forgotten. I also tried to explain to him how to wire an aftermarket subwoofer to a stereo, and ended up wiring it myself.

I like that it's ripping off the kind of people that usually buy these. I'm now thinking of buying a cheap one as a fake alarm flasher for in a window of my flat.

As a radar jammer it's utterly useless, but it's quite a nice and cheap dusk sensor that you could repurpose for other projects. Radar jammers are exceedingly illegal, but LIDAR jammers exist and are legal in some places. They work quite well if you're willing to pay the high price for one.

If you find it in the bin sure, maybe.. But if you buy it.. come on.. don't be a fool ! Usually they are put together from the worst junk they had laying on the shelf knowing very well that they last only a couple weeks.

The problem isn’t people being fooled into racking up tons of fines, it is that they want to get away with speeding and putting lives in danger.

Mr. BigClive, first wanted to say I've been a long time fan, watch all your videos (typically from my Xbox) and enjoy the variety of videos. Recently tho, I've been having issues (I have reported it to KZread - good luck on that). Your videos (new ones only) don't play on my console, it simply goes to a blank screen and does nothing. Old videos work fine, and shorts seem to work fine. It's VERY bizarre. Your channel is not the only one, there are odd channels where the problem exists pileofstuff is another one I can remember. Have you in past month (maybe early Dec) started encoding different? or KZread? Happened after a KZread App update in December. Who knows maybe I'm the only one lol? Any way "One Moment... please" keep pushing them out.👍👍

No changes. And the videos are uploaded using the KZread app. They do keep changing things though.

Note that static cameras either use induction loops in the road or ANPR, neither of which are jammable. (You could possibly use high intensity LEDs to obscure images of your numberplate) It’s generally better not to break the law in the first place.

Depends on which country you are in. New Zealand static cameras are nearly all microwave units with a few point to point ones about to be introduced

Something somebody I knew once did was put an ultra bright UV LED strip around his number plate, he drove like a wanker and swore he never got speeding tickets, but who knows…

@@testpilotian3188 wouldn't have had any effect on the film Gatsos, as they used Ilford HP5 in 120 format which has no significant UV sensitivity as anything below 400nm not captured.

Victoria, Australia used to use a pair of induction loops spaced a certain distance apart to measure speed for speed cameras.... Until they started getting complaints about ridiculous speeding fines. An old lady with an old car was accused of doing speeds the car couldn't even get close to even when tested on a race track. Government bus drivers kept getting fines while driving in slow moving morning traffic. Eventually they had to admit the system was flawed in its design, had to return millions in fines, and all the cameras had to be replaced with radar based sensors.

@@tin2001the same thing happened with red light cameras when it was discovered cities were artificially shortening yellow light times to boost camera hits. Total scam.
